Semi-auto VSSM is probably the only decent weapon of the season. TTK is 267ms up to 35m IIRC, ADS time reduced to 200ms, and 20 mag rounds makes it competitive against so many (but not all) carbines, SMGs, LMGs and few ARs in that range. It's not really a meta weapon but it's surprisingly decent enough for a semi-automatic gun in a game where full auto weapons reign supreme. If you have played BFV it's basically similar to the M1A1 Carbine.

The Season 1/2 units being available as an option for every class was likely because they wanted to boost sales. You're more likely to buy a skin if you aren't limited to playing just Recon to use the skin you purchased. They stopped doing this because that shit doesn't work out in the long run, if you have a single skin that works across every class, players are discouraged from buying anything else. There's the cope that they started caring about class identity again, but clearly not when you just look at the skins.

I think that at one point after launch the plan was to eventually go back and make every character cross-class (which is why every character has that little class-specific tool set hanging off their back, to identify them better at a glance) but at some point during S2 they reneged on that concept and locked them going forward. VSSM was nerfed to hell and back since 2042. In 2042 it was one of the top guns that I used. You'd grind for the 20rnd mag, go full auto and it had an absolutely nasty ROF with thermals. In 6, they lowered the ROF, lowered the piss out of precision (it's 19 kek) and have it so that you can't use thermals with full auto. Like what the fuck is the point of this gun? It's worse than the KORD by a mile in full auto and worse and it's the weakest DMR in single shot. It pretty much got the VCR treatment kek.

Breakthrough is a massive disappointment. I was hoping for an airfield seizure from the NATO side, but instead it's infantry only up until the 3rd objective, with no actual armor until the final obj, going from the Pax side. Doesn't even use the Hotel, and 3rd obj (F point on the conquest map) has a needlessly constrained with most of the mountain being out of bounds.
