I like the dichotomy between Noelle and Susie. One desperate for things to change and progress because she hates the present and the past, resenting the world around her for not responding appropriately to the awful things that happened to her. Compared with Susie, who actually has a present worth enjoying for the first time, a present she wants to last forever because it’s the first time she’s been happy and able to open up to connect with people. Contempt drives Noelle forward, comfort holds Susie still. Susie will never meet this Noelle, because we only see that side of her in WR, but it’s interesting to view their relationship knowing what’s festering under Noelle’s exterior. Still a fairly mid ship albeithoughever tbdesu.
