Xion doesn't need more development, her story is complete. Aqua could use a bit more, but she's also mostly complete. Kairi's the one in need of extensive development to go from a damsel to a warrior she feels can stand next to her two closest friends.

And while ML died but Aqua's family history and whatever drama/story hooks with it will still probably be brought up. And the remaining classmates connected with the old Eraqus/Xehanort drama, surely they'll eventually meet up with Eraqus' students, but I don't know what will unfold afterwards. So, the bloodline/school legacy stuff will probably cause future conflict for TAV and give Aqua more ways to grow. BUT I'll be surprised if any of this happens with KH4, the game already seems busy and crowded with other characters. We'll probably have to wait for a later game for the stuff I've mentioned. And given that wait times between games, maybe 2035? Fuck.

Missing-Link has gone on to strengthen the theory that the Kingdom Hearts worlds are born from Unreality somehow like it's the collective unconscious. Since Xehanort says Scala is the nexus from which all worlds spring and that world is it's called the Stairway to Heaven/Sky aka death aka unreality. Which is probably why Nomura called it that. There's a symbiotic connection between Scala and Quadratum.

The more I think and go through it the more kh2's plot is completely nonsensical in a way no game in the entire rest of the series is. At the very least Demyx being defeated in Hollow Bastion allowed you to advance as he was the wall but that's basically it. Luxord and Xigbar do nothing of real impact in Pirates and Mulan except throwing a heartless at you. The org are mentioned offhand by an NPC in Aladdin. They basically don't exist and don't do anything.

So what is the purpose of the Book of Prophecies now? Supposedly, the outcome predicted was thwarted by the child of destiny aka Sora in KH3. What’s odd to me, though, is that the Book has still not been formally introduced in the mainline games. The 7 guardians weren’t fighting to prevent any prophecy, just to stop Xehanort. So, why introduce the MoM and the Book and all this lore after the prophecy has been prevented? Unless that was all a false lead and the prophecy still stands because True Darkness or whatever.

My impression of Roxas and Axel being “best friends” in KH2 was that it was largely projection on Axel’s end. Axel was visibly much older and his desperation to get Roxas back was depicted as rather one-sided. Roxas cries (through Sora) when he says goodbye to Hayner’s group before the train leaves. Roxas was sad after he fights Axel in the prologue, but he doesn’t ever consider going back with him. He wants to continue his normal summer vacation life. They promise to meet in the next life, which is a way of admitting, “yeah things aren’t ever gonna go back to how they used to.” And when Axel dies, Roxas/Sora doesn’t cry. AXEL cries during their farewell scene in FM, but Roxas is pretty calm and collected. Compare that to Roxas’s final scene with Xion. The impression I got in KH2 was that Axel and Roxas hung out and got along well compared to anyone else in Org13, but they weren’t like super close or real BFFs. Plus the whole idea was that Nobodies remember their human lives and try to recreate emotions from their past to feel whole. The og KH2 gave me the impression that Axel lost his actual best friend and was using Roxas to fill a void. Hell, I still got that impression in Days. I think the original concept of Nobodies has been greatly misunderstood in this fandom. Nobodies did not need hearts to express the emotions that they did. Vexen and Zexion being afraid of death isn’t the kind of emotion that the heart is associated with in this metaphysical framework. That’s more of an instinctual body-based thing.Heart = Meaning, Purpose, and Love. That’s what Nobodies were desperately seeking to reclaim. It’s why there’s no contradiction with Saix experiencing rage, but those three emotions being completely out of his reach. Nobodies = Body + Soul. Lingering Will expressed rage even though it was just a Soul acting with a suit of armor as a body. Even Axel’s devotion and sacrifice could just be seen as him acting on memory of what he remembers friendship to feel like. He sacrifices himself not because he truly feels anything but because he desperately YEARNS to. Because he remembers what it was like. Notice how in KH4 Xehanort is in the rain with a broken umbrella? It shows how he, like Sora, is vulnerable here. Master Of Masters didn't just give Xehanort a black coat; he temporarily took Xehanort to Quadratum. Both the coat and the umbrella are both, in a way, protection against the rain, protection against the elements. Nomura could've come up with any excuse to give Xehanort the black coat, but he chose the Master of Masters of all people, someone who already has connections with Quadratum. I see Master of Masters meeting Young Xehanort as a literal stepping stone to what's to come next.

I was thinking about how common Heartless would be before Apprentice Xehanort's experiments and his split into Heartless and Nobody. If I recall correctly, the only heartless (outside Darklings) in χ and Uχ are just projections from the Book of Prophecies, and in Dark Road, the heartless (outside of the Darkness created by Baldr's darkness) only appeared in worlds that hadn't fully been awoken as worlds go through several stages since the keyblade war caused the realm of light to become what we know of in DR onwards, and once they are fully completed, the barriers appear and heartless no longer appear. I think it's been a while. But they were incredibly rare until the barriers to the worlds were shattered, and even post KH1 they're still more common in modernity than they had been at any point prior, even though SDG's effort to shut the door to darkness restored the worlds and the barriers around them. Do I have that right, or am I missing something?

UX hiding Sigurd's face is funny in hindsight given the intro of ML showed it straight away. It's the polar opposite of the Master of Masters where his may only be hidden for dramatic effect until the first Lost Masters game is out but it's taken over a decade to get there so it's become one of most of anticipated reveals.
