You have to build your character to survive attacks that get through, and to survive spells. You get this by adding suppression, ES, block, and whatever's comfortable for your build. Right-side builds that don't have huge pool (e.g. don't have big ES) absolutely need to run things like endurance charge on kill, guard skills, jade+granite flasks, maxres from items/jewels/auras, immunity to dangerous ailments and so on.Look at some HC/HCSSF day 1/2 chars for inspiration.
