Maybe not entirely 100%, but its rebuilding it in my own way at least. For the Shadow-inspired character, the way I've constructed his "personality-framework" is like, Casey Jones + Numbuh 1. And part of that is also to align with other characters who are meant to have a KND Sector V character as the under-layer. Like my self-insert is constructed like Edd "Double D" on the surface, Numbuh 4 underneath. Because that's a personal way I view Tails, and also Robin and Deku in different ways. But like, for my self-insert, there's two other layers in-between, which is Shaggy & Timmy Turner, to fully capture the nuances of how I want my character to be, and I layer it like Double D / Shaggy / Timmy / Numbuh 4 in that order. ... I'm getting off-track.

I always liked Sonic for secondary reasons rather than the pure Japanese core, like Nazo Unleashed, newgrounds era flash DBZ Sonic. Recently it's Archie. In between it was Sonic as a cool guy that is edgy and hardcore, not an aloof guy, but like a super mythic hero. When I read Archie for the first time before I met Japanese Sonic Purists, I liked this Sonic more than the Japanese the classics. I was vaguely confused when people brought up Japanese lore in analyses, but I just had a vague and not caring understanding of it.I wish I could go back and erase all the knowledge of Japanese Sonic Purists from my mind. I was happier as a lifelong guy that didn't engage with Sonic fan politics. I used to think Sonic games just had great variety among one another and they all have their own unique gameplay appeals, but now I understand that the reality is there are only two types of games, Classic games like Sonic 3&K or Sonic Mania, and Modern games like Sonic Advance and Sonic Generations. Sonic Adventure started the Modern series by rebooting it into something different, which no game before or after had done, and both Modern and Classic have since been perfected into what they are today. If there is something I like about Sonic 1 that isn't in Sonic Mania, or something I like about Sonic Adventure that isn't in Sonic Forces, that is not an intentional game design difference, it's an error, an anomaly, a mistake made by inexperienced developers who had yet to quite figure out what they wanted their game to be like, and it should be removed and forgotten. Those differences were never supposed to be there, and their presence is comparable to a glitch. If you were to ignore or fix the game design errors, Sonic 1 would play exactly the same way as Sonic Superstars, and Sonic Adventure would play the same way as Shadow Generations, as those are among the newer and more refined games in their respective series
