V5C1 Review: 6/10As the first fully new Volume after Volume F, I suppose anything would feel deflating but V5C1 sort of meandered for way too long. Way too much Nagusa self-deprecation ad nauseum and a really slow start sort of weigh it down the most. The actual ending was pretty good though, execution of it was at least done well.

The chapter doesn’t play into the strengths of any of the Hyakkaryouran members. It provides horrid introductions to Kikyou and Renge, how Kikyou got as popular as she did despite her portrayal in this chapter is a miracle. Pre-V5C2, most of the popularity of Hyakkaryouran came from their momos where they shined! If you have any Hyakkaryouran students, I’d recommend checking their momos out, you won’t be disappointed. V5C2 is kino though, fixes a lot of the issues of the previous chapter. You’ll start to like Nagusa’s crying after finishing the chapter.
