What would be a "vanilla" way of implementing a Survival tool for changing the biome of an area?
>>575312054Something like a terraforming beacon? Build some kind of cage, like for the conduit, with the beacon block inside, and then leave it alone. It keeps converting blocks on random ticks within its sphere of influence to whatever biome it's set to. The UI would be similar to the beacon, but basically just contain a list of biomes and a slot to put a diamond, which is needed to run it. Maybe it could even require multiple diamonds, like how furnaces burn through fuel
>>575312054Biomes dynamically changing to match the blocks around them, feels the most vanilla, but I don't think mojang would do that currently. They would probably want to overhaul how biomes work if they wanted to do that, it would be a big change.

what is it with autists trying to "fix" minecraft? a year or two ago we had all the progressionfags trying to turn it into terraria, is it now a crusade against the "farm meta"?its a fucking sandbox game. you control the blocks you place. if you dont like farms just dont build them and play without them.
>>575331568Hey Jeb. Remove baby zombies you lanky faggot.
>>575326467Where's the tranny splash?
>>575331629It's just wanting to have their cake and eat it too. They see epic megabuilds on YouTube and Reddit that require dozens of shulker boxes of materials, and then they look at their own shitty dirt boxes and feel inadequate. They want progress as efficiently and gain as many resources as the more technical minded players but they have no desire (or even ability) to put in as much work, so they blame the game for being "imbalanced" or "punishing" or whatever and talk about how it needs to be "fixed" instead of just gitting gud.
>>575332326>imbalancedIt is. No, I will not elaborate.
>>575332535Git gud.
>>575332586It's a baby block game. Nobody needs to "git gud", we just need blocks.
>>575331629>>575332326like the modding/customisation scene of minecraft is kind of an extension of the sandbox-iness of it, so if someone wants to mod their game to make resources more plentiful without farming, go for itits more just that i find the framing of>the game REQUIRES me to build farms and im MAD about itweird. the game doesnt require you to do fucking anything outside of making a nether portal and killing some blazes to get to the dragon, and even with that you dont miss out on much if you dont do it. the game is about as open-ended as it could be, so being upset about things being "required" feels like tilting at windmills tbdesu
>>575332782>we just need blocksUnless you are in Creative, you need to put in the effort to obtain blocks.
>>575331629I've never been a fan of farms, but it's not even a big deal these days since there are now way more alternatives. Iron veins and fortune III let you skip iron farms. Gold you can get from the Nether or from the badlands. You can spawn slimes with the slime potion for easy slimeballs, or kill slimes in the swamps. Those were the big ones for me at least, still wish there was a better way to get gunpowder but I made a datapack to let me craft it. Most everything else you don't really need an automated farm for to get in large quantities, it's just nice to have and/or fun to build. 'Cept for niche stuff like froglights I guess, there's a reason I rarely use them.
>>575334668Indeed, and "farms" are a hackish way of obtaining resources.

>>575339976what are you even trying to say? modding is cheating? balancing the game is cheating? i can't even tell if you're saying the game is balanced or unbalancedw/e, here's your (You)
If people have such an issue with afk farms why don't they play like etho's mentality? The why play the game if you're going to afk at a farm? Make the farm require your manual input. I forgot the exact wording of his quote but I understand the logic behind it. It's why the mob ones require him to hit them or a button for potions or the manual wood/mushroom farms instead of having the TNT and pistons do it automatically. You're still playing and setting up the wood farm in prep for the incoming TNT explosion instead of it being auto afk
>>575341498I am creating a bad faith strawman against the people who say "just play creative" while also fallaciously implying that they are also upset over general mod usage.>>575342912>I love minecraft! But I would never ever ever ever ever play it!see I just did it again!
>>575335863>and "farms" are a hackish way of obtaining resourcesAbsolutely not. It's a major part of the game.
>>575343026What are you quoting retard. I'm semi defending the opinion of people who dislike afk. There's ways to make your farms manual like they're wanting. The same logic of wanting to play the game applies to modpacks too. You can create make a fully afk farm. Or you can do a create farm that requires you to drive around a vehicle with a saw/item sucker/item placer attached to farm it all. The latter has you playing the game manually for the result
>>575344539>abusing spawn rules is how the game is supposed to be played, aktualy
>>575345065It's a fucking sandbox game. There is no definitive way you are "supposed" to play it. Mob farms have been a staple of the game for over 1.5 decades and Mojang has done nothing to patch that.
>>575345483>Mob farms have been a staple of the game for over 1.5 decades and Mojang has done nothing to patch that.Which is why some people are looking for another way (mods/datapacks) to harvest some resources because indeed, Mojang can't be arsed to do anything about it.But somehow some anons are having a meltdown because they think we want to take farms away from us by giving players more options.
>>575345065Uh, yes, it's a sandbox like some anon said earlier. Play however you wantPersonally I have never made a mobfarm. Neither have I done any redstone other than the ocassional hidden door
>>575345732>Mojang can't be arsed to do anything about itWhy should Mojang do anything about it?>But somehow some anons are having a meltdown because they think we want to take farms away from us by giving players more options. No, it's because you are positioning the ability to automate and mass produce resources through farms as something "broken" that needs "fixing" when it's just the game working as intended.

>>575350849No, it's not in vanilla. It should be, though.
>>575351024oh, my bad kek. definitely should be though, yeah;; itd be consistent with pretty much every other "block of..." block
>>575331676baby zombies are fine, it's the retarded way that the game is programmed since the singleplayer/multiplayer code merge in 1.3i assume most people here are unc and remember what it's like playing alpha or beta, where if you left click on a mob you KNOW that you are going to hit if if you are in range, and you don't have to gamble whether you have currently lagged in literal singleplayer and get yourself hit anyway, but if someone does not know or forgot:it used to be possible to kill angry endermen without them touching you, minecarts used to feel like actual solid physics objects and not like weird sponges that sometimes get a random 409381275 km/h boost when you walk into them the right way, there were less (or none at all?) ghost blocks, and no weird desyncs like when a zombie is walking into your house, you close the door, but you do it a little too late so the built-in server decides that you didn't close the door in time because on its side the mob was already inside when you closed it and it re-opens the door for you, causing a visual lag and player frustration.i encourage anyone to try any version before 1.3 to see how a video game like minecraft should *actually* feel like, it's actually incredible how 13 years after the release of that dumpster fire of an update they still haven't managed to fix any of these issues correctly.
>>575351185you're wrong, wool can't be converted into string either, nor planks into logs. this is how the game was designed and thus invalidates your entire argument. just play creative, faggot.
>>575345732>Mojang can't be arsed to do anything about it.Mojang can't be arsed to do anything in this game period. Enchanting isn't fixed. Potions aren't fixed. PvP/combat isn't fixed. Exploration hasn't been expanded. No new bosses, no endgame goal. Even for building half the common blocks aren't renewable or easily accessible, the inventory is in dire needs of fixing. In terms of features and content of the game, afk mob farms is one of the least important things mojang needs to fix lmao
>>575354949>afk mob farms is one of the least important things mojang needs to fix lmaoEspecially considering you yourself CAN just make manual farms. It's similar to using janky redstone, you don't have to use the complex stuff. The other issues listed are hard stuck for the developers to actually handle. They're out of the players control in terms of vanilla. The player can't do anything about enchanting being so shit or having no content to explore. (WOW an empty camp with copper tools!)

>>575377731This looks so good.. I wish I were this good at building. It sounds like you did this in survival too do you build/plan in creative first?
>>575279806No, this was base 1.12.
>>575381950This one specifically I think I just rawdogged in survival as far as I remember, but I use creative to test stuff sometimes. A lot of my big builds like this are basically just repeating wall panels so sometime I mess around with panel designs in creative, but I don't think I've ever mocked up an entire build. The fact it does ultimately just come down to like an 8x8 panel also means it's not too taxing to trial and error in survival, which I guess is why I don't bother with creative a lot of the timeIt just takes practuce and figuring out what works best for you/your style. I've had this world for years now and being able to make big building that look decent with relative ease is just a function of having so much experience building in this style. Pick a style you like and just start building, there's not much more to it than that.
What was the last good season of hermitcraft?
I don't watch minecraft youtubers. given the sheer number of them that have turned out to be literal pedophiles, I just opt to not associate myself with that community. it's at a point where they're more likely to be a pedophile than not and I just don't need that in my life.

i suppose if you want big dappled forest biomes you have to play on a large biome world to actually get something like this, it's so sad how they keep adding cool new biomes but limit them to tiny blobs surrounded by boring regular forests or plains biomes. i want to be completely lost in dappled forests and pale gardens, even with large biomes they're extremely patchy and you need some luck to generate them like this

>>575447524You are inherently more limited in what you can do with a data pack compared to what you can do with a mod, but also the barrier of entry is lower since you basically only need some text files with data to make a working data pack without needing a mod loader or writing code, and it's more accessible for users too since to use a data pack they just need to drop an archive into a folder in an otherwise completely vanilla client. However, sometimes people go so deep with data packs and do incredibly complex things using functions that it comes to a point where it would have been easier and more optimal to implement the same changes through a few lines of code in a mod.
MCreator and its consequences have been a disaster for the modding scene.

>>575451335CC-BY-NC-SA, as I understand it, is an attribution-required, non-commercial, "share-alike" license. You must credit the original creator, can't sell it, and must release any derivate work under the same license. The MIT license doesn't have any restrictions outside of including the original license text with the code, and crediting the original creator. You're free to include the project in your own commercial, proprietary code. MIT is also designed for code, whereas CC is designed for other works (e.g. books, music, video). Point is, I don't think you're legally in the clear if you want to take textures from his data pack and include them in your own pack. You'd need to adopt the same license at the very least

>>575450740I've used Brave's AI, which I thought was called Leo but it's usually just shown as "Ask Brave", to some success. I've had to tell it that a certain registry doesn't exist more than once. Still, it has steered me right a lot, too. I don't use it to write code though, just to look up documentation
>>575453054the hard part of learning to code (at least for the purposes of something like relatively basic modding) is just getting used to how computers "think"; counterintuitive shit with if/elses, loops, whatever. how do i represent the logic of this thing i want to happen within the framework available to me?something like mcreator requires you to get used to that anyway, so at that point all youre missing is the actual java syntax, which you can learn in an afternoon and takes two seconds to check if you forget something (just google "java OR operator" or whatever shit idk)>>575453412yeah, thats pretty much my experience. i do a lot of javascript at my job and im the only dev on the team so theres no one else to check my code, and claude has been decent for catching shit i miss (though its far too inconsistent for me to have it write shit in the first place)
>>575453062>MIT requires credit?Nah, anon got mixed up. It happens.>change to CC0If you don't want to be credited and don't care if people sell your code, MIT is fine. However, it's true that CC0 doesn't force people to include the original license like MIT does.
>>575453028>>575453062MIT technically requires attribution because you have to include the license text with the code, and the license text contains the original copyright holder. There's a no-attribution version of MIT called MIT-0, where you can leave out the license text. But it's true that you don't need to explicitly credit the creator, say in a game's credits sequenceI'm guessing he went with CC because his data pack isn't just code, but also art. That art wouldn't be covered by an MIT license, I'm pretty sure. Still, I don't think it's the right license for a project where he's encouraging people to "steal" assets and reuse without credit
>>575454271Honestly, I've never included my name in the license text, but maybe it's bad practice on my part.>reuse without creditWell that directly goes against the license he chose, sooooo.
so if im following this correctly, CC is essentially modular, with the different bits meaning different things. it sounds like what i want would be CC-NS, assuming that exists?>dont care if people steal my shit>dont care what licence they slap on derivatives (though itd be nice to prevent them going ARR, could i do that specifically somehow kek)>dont care if about credit>prevents them monetising it (which really would be mojangs problem but its lame on principle)>covers texture art as well as code
>>575454601*NC
>>575454597It's just how it's written, since MIT retains copyright while CC0 basically makes your project public domain
>>575454597>Well that directly goes against the license he chose, sooooo. And that's the whole problem. He should have used CC0 if he wanted anyone to be able to do anything with it
>>575454601Hmmm. I don't think a CC license would fit your needs here since CC0 is the only one that doesn't include a BY clause, but then you'd allow people to monetize your code. The closest is CC BY-NC-SA. It would prevent your code from being monetized and from going ARR by forcing people to reuse a CC BY-NC-SA license. People would need to credit you.But there might be a better license for you, I don't know.>>575454885><copyright holders>Oops! That'll teach me for not reading.

>>575462532>>575462841I had no idea you had to register the recipes to pop up like that. Never really worked with data packs
The only problem I have with farming in Minecraft is the iron golem farm. It just doesn't seem right that a mob you're supposed to be allied with, who's supposed to protect villagers, should be subject to being melted down for scrap. It especially doesn't make sense that villagers should be able to spawn them from the ether. Spawning an iron golem should cost the village something. It would be more interesting if they were to add a new hostile mob that could regularly drop iron. Creating an iron farm would thus require confronting these mobs and conquering their spawner. It would be dangerous and make you earn the iron instead of having it given to you for basically free. Alternatively, they could make it so mobs with iron/chain armor and weapons spawn from spawners and drop their armor without needing player kills.
>>575463153Have you tried with EMI? I don't know how well it interacts with datapacks.
>>575463153yeah, theyre literally stored as advancements, so i guess maybe easy to miss if you only look in the recipes section of minecrafts files. with modding, recipes these days are all generated for you from java you write, and the advancements are easily included as part of that (yet another reason this datapack should have been a mod)
>>575463318I miss old iron farms with stacking villages and doors and what not. much more complicated to design and build, but the output could be much greater
>>575464406The one that had perfectly spaced villagers in small "rooms", and an Iron Golem would spawn in a pool, fall, and die on a lava block?
>>575463318Mobs drop items when they die, that's a well-established Minecraft convention. It's implied that villagers spawn golems the same way players do, with resources they get the same way they get the resources for trading. My only issue is how easy it is to build a golem farm early game, and that you pretty much need a tutorial because fuck figuring out the exact spawning conditions by yourself. Mobs farms are easy, since they just need darkness. But an iron farm needs at least 3 villagers, those villagers have to be scared by a hostile mob, they can't have seen a golem in the last 3-5 minutes, and they need to sleep on occasion so the mob has to be hidden every now and then. That's not something you just stumble onto
>>575464569no, that was the extremely easy to build version that had pretty terrible output. I'm talking about the designs that would stack multiple villages on the same centerpoint to get crazy yields. I don't give a fuck about the "well-being" of villagers and iron golems. every entity in the game exists for me to exploit it

>>575464569That was the basic one, and it sucked, as it should've, because it was easy as fuck to build, to match the modern farms' throughput you actually had to do quite the complex planning or stack multiple of the inefficient variants in an ugly, space inefficient manner, as if yu wanted to exploit the game it actually felt like an elaborate exploit.
>>575463051This datapack slowly creeps on the thin line where it makes sense to go into a full blown mod, isn't super complex but has enough optional branches and custom behavior that it turns cumberstone to manage with just JSON and namespaces.
>>575463318I've never felt the need to make an iron golem farm as so far the iron I get from mining has been more than enough. >>575487725Horses, much like minecarts, require infrastructure. Clear out the trees, build bridges, and then you can ride back and forth with no issue. But also horses have become better for first-time exploration in the past year too, with improvements to leads and horses no longer preferring to drown when in water
>>575488518>Horses, much like minecarts, require infrastructureThat's exactly why they need buffs. Minecart tracks are the most time consuming and expensive thing to set up but they are genuinely the worst travel method. They don't even have utility like combining multiple together to act as a train to carry your storage long distances/from the mine. For such an iconic minecraft feature to be so shit is an embarrassment. Boats got reworked long ago when's it the minecarts turn?>But also horses have become better for first-time exploration in the past year too, with improvements to leads and horses no longer preferring to drown when in waterYep that's true. Those are good improvements. My gripe with the horses is mostly leaves making forest navigation terrible, imo you should clip through them while riding a horse. The biggest problem in recent times though is the terrain. Too much of it looks like image related now, so horse travel is a massive inconvenience with you having to stop and bridge across every time. Horses before weren't so bad when all the terrain was rather flat but now the entire world is against them. Even without rockets the way terrain is now heavily favors elytra. You can jump off the cliff here and glide all the way down the river wey
>>575487932A double jump and an air dash would make the game a lot more fun, though it would also make horses and other forms of transportation even less useful
>>575489973personally i prefer personal augmentation a whole lot more to tedious entity based solutions to problems mostly out of convenience, but also as you said i think it's quite a bit more fun than just faster horses or faster minecarts for example. i love the elytra because of this for example.there should definitely be a way to have faster minecarts, though. and perhaps an easier way to chain minecart chests and take them with you. technical minecrafters have found ways to send like a hundred of them full of shulker boxes of things down a piston-bolt network or something like that, but that's just not really feasible for the 99.9% of the playerbase. you should be rewarded for building infrastructure.
along with my proposed elytra nerfs (>>575481168), these are some other ideas for improving transportation>Add a new minecart type or rail type using copper that speeds up minecarts to at least the same speed as an elytra with rockets, or maybe even as fast as blue ice boat roads>Add the ability to link minecarts together using leads>Add the ability to right click the furnace minecart to see how much fuel is in it and add more fuel>Horses should be able to walk through leaves at their head height when you are riding them

>>575490386Actually, what if you double jump also affected the mob you're riding? As a late-game ability, it would boost horses around the same time that the elytra tends to take over. It wouldn't help minecarts, but then they need a rework regardless
>>575489973Minecraft in general lacks a lot of cool trinket type effects like terraria. It's very barebones in terms of having different playstyles hereThey could add a bunch of rare trinkets like modpacks do but yo u're limited to equipping 1, totem of undying can go there too instead of your offhand. They can have these scattered around all the various structures, dungeons, trial chambers, bosses in minecraft to get people to go explore again. Armor trims or music discs aren't motivational at all but if your chase was a poison immunity charm or double jump scarf or crab claw with +1 reach, that would be worth hunting for
>>575491609That would be really good actually. Oh, and there's already a framework for a dash ability on a mount, see the camel that absolutely nobody has ever used since the day it was added, so throw that on horses too if you've got some way to dash yourself. All that and if you can breed yourself a fast horse that jumps high naturally and you might have something of a useful mount.
>>575491814The problem is that some of that stuff is already covered under potions, and potions are already woefully underdeveloped. I'd rather see them rework alchemy than add trinkets that have similar effects
>>575483132the cult starves without giving it attention
>>575491167what's wrong with my ideas?
>>575489680>My gripe with the horses is mostly leaves making forest navigation terrible, imo you should clip through them while riding a horseYou already do, if you ride under a tree in such a way that your head is inside leaves you don't suffocate. The problem is horses can't fit into 1 block wide gaps so sometimes they get stuck between trees
>>575492089Potions and enchanting are a neglected system yeah. If you throw in trinkets as well you can have the fantasy trio of tools to do all sorts of fun effects with. Minecrafts lacking that kind of playstyle customization aspect, everything is too samey, the most you can really do is use a trident or spear With something like a double jump scarf you could do a mace playstyle. +1 reach crab claw could let you use a spear playstyle or be your go to building set up. A hunger charm could let you eat rotten flesh for food making use of that Enchanting can introduce more impactful ones like tree feller which would be incompatible with others like efficiency to remove the one size fits all enchanting we have thus far. Bow infinite/mending do this well. The new potions for infesting/oozing are a good step to adding new interesting effects to them. You can pair slow falling ones with a double jump scarf to stay airborn longer for a bow/crossbow playstyle The systems all intermingle with each other for synergy and playstyle differences. Right now they feel rather disconnected because potions/enchants are just universal generic effects rather than something to opt into
>>575491814Those textures look cool, what are they from?
>>575494082https://www.curseforge.com/minecraft/mc-mods/artifactsI see it in modpacks a fair bit and they're quite fun effects. I like hunting for them
>>575489680>My gripe with the horses is mostly leaves making forest navigation terribleIt's funny how Mojang pointed out that the tall trees are good for horse navigation (iirc, I don't remember where) but they're not doing anything about other forests.
>the most active /mcg/ has been in ages and its discussion of software licensing for mods

would you say you hold modded builds to a higher standard or lower standard than vanilla builds, in general? not that it really matters and i know this is the vanilla general and all, but just wondering.
>>575501384if it looks good it looks good
>>575501384I'd expect it to be higher quality as you're given more tools to make use of in modded, sometimes even vertical slabs or actual furniture mods. Vanilla you kinda just have to "make do" with what you've got so you need the skill to iinterpret them in your vision. It's why you can make builds look better with shaders in vanilla, you're given extra tools with the shaders helping but like the other guy said, if it looks good it works. it's not a competition on who makes the best build
>>575448886aether portal never ever>>575449525Your in-game companion hints about there being fishing soon after the tutorial, and completely satirizes the entire thing throughout the game, making fun of this mechanic in other games. The minigame itself is also a fucking joke, where you basically toss a talking dildo into the water for junk crap to collect
>>575501269If you add up all the drops from 2025, that makes a huge update, just smaller than the nether update. 2026 will be like that as well.
>>575501384Sort of like >>575502203 says, I think for me it depends on the mod. If it adds like, maple wood, juan, and that's it, then I'll judge it with basically the same standard as vanilla. The more expansive the mod, the more it ranges from "you have some extra tools to work with" to "this is a different game". If it looks good, it looks good, and ultimately it's a game to play for fun, not a block building esport, but just for the purposes of comparison I'd never hold something made in vanilla apples and apples next to something with, say, chisels and bits
>>575504493They have nothing to do with each other though. If a year's drops were one big update split up into four smaller releases, that would be vastly preferable to the current system of four disconnected morsels of slop that don't deepen the game in any meaningful way
>>575501742>>575502203>>575504512fair enough, i figured the same and was a little more daunted by it compared to just building in vanilla. but i think approaching it with mostly vanilla blocks + a modded wood type or stone type would look nicest anyway, slopes and chisel and bits are a little too autistic for me and if you include them the build better look amazing. again, not like it really matters as i'm mostly only building for myself and want it to look good for myself, but yeah.
>>575480716>A diverse community is vibrant – stronger, healthier, and more protective of its members, just like a bee colony.Fellow bees we MUST let wasps into our vibrant colony trust me it's NECESSARY for our survival

>>575500589You're welcome.
>>575508582can you give me some suggestions or at least a place to start with for 1.20.1? i hate worldgen mods that use purely vanilla blocks if they're going to put shit like yellow concrete or dead coral where they really shouldn't be. i don't mind a little bit of item bloat, it's modded.
>>575501384>>575504870For me it's not that I hold modded builds to a higher standard, but that I'm usually disappointed with modded builds. Meaning that I think a build can always be achieved in Vanilla through other means, and that I rate such Vanilla builds higher than the same builds but modded. Examples of that would be mods that add sloped bricks, or mini bricks. I feel modded builds lose a lot of their soul. I think it only works for me if a mod adds a function and then the build is made traditionally around that function
>>575491814>to get people to go explore againThat's what's missing from the game, IMO. I think mods like End Remastered help with this.ER makes it so you have to collect unique "eyes" to open the End Portal, so you have to travel. Now the problem is that it keeps stuff like the elytra behind a huge grind. I'm the anon who complained about the elytra earlier, but it doesn't mean I want to take mobility away from the player. So here's what I'm thinking, and I'm just spitballing here: we need to reward exploration. Gaining access to the End isn't enough. It's lackluster.I propose a flying machine. We keep the elytra behind a huge grind (the End Remastered mod), but in the meantime the player can build a small contraption to fly around. It needs to be gimped somehow, so the more "eyes" you get, the better it becomes. Also it needs fuel.Maybe at first it can only be used for a couple of minutes. Maybe it can't go above Y50. Things like that. But the more eyes you collect, the higher you can go. The longer it can run.So the longer the player plays, the more he explores, the stronger he becomes. It also creates situations where you WILL have to land. Emergent gameplay, folks.I dunno.
>>575510987Why do you NEED to fly?
>>575511923It's fun?
>>575509662Check for compatibility, if two mods touch the same noise regions/parametters, the one that Forge magically loads first, wins, resulting on things like Cascades + Tectonic working "fine" but the biome placement goes through the window and you have huge "autumn forest" areas that are actually just stone hills and a river with seagrass. A classic good enough choice for everyone is Tectonic + Geophilic, big enough landmarks and underground rivers to impress everyone. My biased answer, Moderner Beta is full of untapped potential, the default presets are good, but if you were skilled enough, you could create something beautiful combining parts from the best eras of Minecraft. Cascades + Continents is IMO the best "lite" worldgen available right now, easy on the CPU, interesting terrain and landmarks, though overshadowed by bigger mods if you want something breathtaking.Terralith's still fine, but i never liked it personally. Not only because of the ugly blocks but also cause Tectonic already has good enough landmarks on its own and is compatible with other shit.Regions Unexplored is the new Biomes O Plenty basically, smaller scope more polish, works fine with Tectonic, or at least couldn't find anything remarkably ugly, only thing i dislike are the cave biomes, because i don't like the colors. Oh The Biomes We've Gone (hate the name of this serie of mods, annoying to type) also exist, is like Regions Unexplored but with more fantasy terrain. Personally i don't care about it, neither like it nor dislike it.You also have some over the top shit lik Big Globe, TerraForged, Conquest Reforged (make the terraing big, trying to mimic real world landscapes) Stratospherical Expansion (floating islands++)Two small grassroot projects that have a chance of catching up some day are Terrestria and Ecotones. Sit around the middle of the road between Regions Unexplored and O
I haven't played survival since 1.14 so you can take my opinion with a grain of salt. But I feel like either the elytra should be glide only, or maybe a one time fireworks launch that resets when you land. Or there should be something inbetween like a parachute that lets you glide. The parachute shouldn't be easily obtainable, but easier than the elytra
>>575516297>cum cube>boat>pig>spear>potion of slow fallingThere's your hard to get parachute
the elytra genie is out of the bottle, either play a previous version or just choose not to use it.
>>575517325None of those give you that feeling of flight like the elytra doesBut again I only play creative nowadays so don't mind me, I'm just bumping the thread
>>575516297The elytra IS a glider, which you can use to fly on longer adventures if you farm up enough creepers. The issue here is not the functionality of the elytra, but the exploitability of the spawning mechanics to trivialize the creeper farming.
>>575517826Trying to nerf/take back something from players after releasing it will always cause massive backlash. The best you can do is adjust other systems around it so it's not as outrageousLike the mace can one shot anything fairly easily but nobody cries about that ruining the whole combat system..
All I've done to support your cause, and this is how you repay me? also is there a use for dripstone blocks beyond decoration? these things are ugly as sin, gonna toss em if there isn't any potential use that is exclusive to them
>>575516297>But I feel like either the elytra should be glide onlythey won't do it, all the youtubers are addicted to using it because it lets them make their stupid videos more quickly and if they removed it they would just complain to their audiences and rile them against mojang like an angry hordeand this is despite the elytra overpowering every other transport system by far (other than perhaps blue ice boats), and it also doesn't require any infrastructure whatsoever other than maybe just some basic bitch creeper farm.tldr: i hate youtubers
I do prefer elytra to having to enter the nether, travel, exit the nether, then go where I wanted. Being able to see the world and all the stuff you built while flying feels better than just entering your nether tunnels/roof for the billionth time
>>575529328the funniest thing is out of all the people that build overworld paths to connect different places, elytra users probably see them the most. because even with overworld paths if you want to go somewhere far you're using the nether, unless you've got an elytra.
>>575516297I think they should just make it unable to use Mending, and then fix the shitty anvil system.

>>575528772You are right that Mojang are unlikely to remove anything that is already in the game. But I'm having doubts that "youtoobers will complain" is an argument that stands strong these days. A lot of them are in Mojang's pocket and will hype up a feature or downplay an unpopular change when told so. If, hypothetically speaking, Mojang were to remove or nerf the elytra, you'll likely see the bigger youtubers trying to spin it in a positive way.

>>575566895what are you smoking? you only need 27 to have an entire shulker full, and you can keep them constantly loaded so you're pretty much guaranteed for them to be full every time you occasionally check on them. if you need a massive amount of lava quickly, yeah it's not the best unless you go huge, but for a passive lava income, they are great
>>575570312>unless you go hugeWhich is why it's shit because I'm not a builder, therefore if I do go huge it looks fucking awful.
Phantoms get undue hate. The main problem with phantoms is not the mob itself, but the desync/lag between the client and the server, causing them to be next to impossible to hit, same issue with baby zombies. Also, phantoms are the only mob that can spawn directly on top of you, making them feel even more unfair. They should not be able to spawn closer than two chunks away, so there is always a 3x3 chunk area around the player where they can't spawn. Fix those two things and that's 99% of the problems with phantoms fixed. I would also reverse their spawning conditions, meaning they would spawn after sleeping three nights in a row instead of the opposite. Once a player is out of the very early game, nights no longer present a problem, and having to stop and take a break from whatever you are doing just to go sleep to stop phantoms from spawning is annoying. Switching it to where they spawn after three consecutive days of using a bed is a better way to handle them imo. That way they act as a very small nerf to beds, which I still think are overpowered, and most of the time you still won't encounter them because you'll be accidentally working through the night either while caving or working inside or something. Only downside I can see to all these changes are that phantom farms would be harder to build with phantoms only spawning far away from the player, but no one uses phantom farms anyway. An easy fix for that would to be to add a biome in the End with the inevitable End update where phantoms spawn naturally. Then the three people that use phantom farms could just move them to the End
>>575572475I already explained how you can get a almost passive income of lava, with a relatively small footprint, but if you really do need a massive amount of lava quickly (what are you using all this lava for?), and you don't think you can build something that big that looks good, just put your lava farm underground
>>575573535Just decouple them from sleeping entirely. Especially now with straw beds, there's no point in encouraging/forcing players to use a bed. I'd prefer if phantoms just spawned at night at random, just like any other mob. It would be nice to travel at night and see something in the air
>>575573535>they would spawn after sleeping three nights in a row instead of the opposite.This.Right now phantoms prevent players from engaging with a part of the game. It's fucking stupid. The night isn't safe already, so let people fuck around.I genuinely don't understand what they were thinking with the current implementation.
>>575574083That could also work, but I don't see Mojang doing that

>>575602763No i mean you dont need to skip the night at all, if you right click to lay down and get back up before you skip the night, phantoms won't spawn. The issue with that is it resets your spawn point still so you can't do this far from your base and break the bed if your base isnt at spawn or whatever.Forcing you to do this is really stupid though. It wouldn't be a problem if the mobs just got stronger, like stronger gear or if there were more jockeys or somehting, but infinitely spawning annoying as fuck phantoms just makes the right clicking a bed once in a while mandatory.
>>575598991The creative-esque mode is called journey mode, and it gives you the ability to duplicate items after you've researched them. So once you've gathered 100 wood, or 10 potions of whatever, or 1 weapon of a certain type, you effectively have an infinite amount of it. You also get access to a few sliders and toggles to set difficulty, enemy spawn rates, control the weather, and so on. But the core of the game is still in the combat, so unless you defeat the bosses you can't progress

>>575574287>>575573535>Switching it to where they spawn after three consecutive days of using a bed is a better way to handle them imoI'm so glad you faggots don't work at Mojang.
>>575601640>>575606368you know I'm right

>>575608493Fug, my bad. Thanks.
one arm de-crimsoned. looks so much better. dont think i can be arsed doing any more tonight
>>575596958Because they look at Chunkbase screenshots and think how cool continents would be and how small current oceans are without cosidering that modern world gen is expertly designed to give you the gameplay illusion of proper oceans at vanilla render distance without making traversal boring.Personally, I want to build a boat with blocks and sail the seas.
Would you rather Mojang make insomnia give debuffs the longer you don't sleep?
>>575603094>if you right click to lay down and get back up before you skip the night, phantoms won't spawnwtf
For all your free gaems needs, we got you:>>573976931>>573976931>>573976931
>>575620474u a bot or sumethin?
>>575619887No, I'd much rather not sleeping not be punished in any extrinsic way other than the natural way you are being "punished" by allowing monsters to spawn on the surface at night. Because it's incredibly fucking retarded to punish not sleeping. But if it has to be done, I'd rather insomnia increase the strength of mobs by giving them more gear, spiders potion effects, that sort of thing. Similar to how the scaling world difficulty already works the longer you're in a chunk, but globally depending on insomnia. Phantoms are gay and retarded.
>>575620672Why? Survival mechanics make the survival game mode more fun, and it makes more sense than never having to sleep.Would harder mobs be so much more bearable for the people complaining about phantoms?
>>575621413>Survival mechanics make the survival game mode more fun, and it makes more sense than never having to sleep. No, it makes the game more tedious AND easier. That's boring, not fun.>Would harder mobs be so much more bearable for the people complaining about phantoms?I don't know, would you rather face a skeleton in iron armor or an infinite army of flying rats? Hard choice.
>>575614293I approve. Looks less like a circus tent now
>>575621413>Would harder mobs be so much more bearable for the people complaining about phantoms?I'd argue that yes, they would, because these other mobs aren't airborne.
>>575620564I wish I knew how to make bots but alas I can only hack consoles
>>575587737You know you can pirate it easily, right? There's also a free demo.
>>575568693>build a slow ass un-automatable farm for clay>or just strip lush caves w/ silk touchwhich one am I gonna do? which one would YOU rather do?
i need a lot of gravel. a LOT of gravel. what's the best way to get it in modern minecraft? I'd rather not fly out a billion blocks and load a billion chunks to get a windswept gravel biome so if there's another way I'd love to hear it.
>>575625165It's the gravel biome, but failing that set up a conduit and eat the ocean floor
>>575625409fuck. windswept it is then
>>575625165if you want shulker boxes and shulker boxes of gravel, make a gold farm -> make a piglin bartering farm. you'll get more gravel than you could ever want. a decent gold farm by ianxo4 takes barely any time or resources to set up, and if you want faster designs and can gather about 10k magma blocks those exist too. and a piglin bartering farm is super super easy to setup, also check out ianxo4's design for this.but that's probably a lot more effort than just quarrying out an ocean floor if you only need like a double chest or something of it. but if you need a LOT more, then this is the best way.
>>575632664>make 2 farms to collect a shitload of trash plus maybe a chance at the item you wantdoesn't sound very vegan-friendly
>>575619887Yeah, that would actually make sense and be cool. They should make it so your mining and movement speeds get lower after a few days of not sleeping, and maybe even make your vision go blurry or make you doze off after extensive periods of not sleeping. But they should also add coffee or some kind of potion that would postpone these negative effects as an alternative to sleeping, and some kind of endgame item or enchantment that would postpone them indefinitely.>>575620672>it's retarded to have actual survival mechanics in survival mode
>>575635764You also get infinite Ender Pearls which is super useful, as well as infinite blackstone, nether bricks, and quartz (if you are into building), spectral arrows (if you prefer mending over infinity), iron nuggets, leather, and other shit. A good bartering farm is definitely worth the investment as it covers multiple needs.
>>575641175>pearlsalready have an ender farm>blackstonedon't care>brickslaughably plentiful>quartzI have several shulkers of quartz ore waiting to be fortune'd when I need it>arrowsI don't use bows>nuggetslol>leatherthat's not vegan friendlyseems like a whole lotta effort for very little reward, ignoring the fact that this is all chance based too.
>>575641606good bait i guesspiglin bartering farms are awesome
>>575643334which is why, when I wanted soul speed, I went and threw some gold into a hole until I got it. nether farms require such a high level of bullshit for such minimal reward that I don't bother with them. also why I'll probably never build with frog lights, or why I move the same small handful of beacons around to where I need them.
>>575644623>nether farms require such a high level of bullshit for such minimal rewardhttps://youtu.be/ixGwh1pJb9o135 wither skellie skulls an hour, no spawnproofing required. took me about 2 hours or so to setup.https://youtu.be/ojydo0MYJr0800k drops/hr piglin bartering setup. takes barely any time or effort at all to build and gives you more throughput than you'll ever realistically need.https://youtu.be/uBpMwXVn6iY360 gold blocks/hr gold farm. takes next to no effort to build, harder than the piglin bartering setup but easier than the wither skellie farm.infinite beacons is insane qol. quartz without needing to mine for it lets you actually build with it on large scales. infinite gold is best for building beacons as it breaks fastest, not that you'll need to move too many of them with a wither skellie farm. zero excuse for them being too much of a pain in the ass, the most annoying part is linking a portal or two and if you can read your f3 screen and use a calculator you can do that.the only annoying part of froglight farms is actually getting the frogs there and hatched in the right biomes, and i don't blame anyone for not wanting to play with mobs who have a primary goal of killing themselves to fuck you over. froglights are pretty though.
>>575645380You won't be able to convince this guy, he'll just say he doesn't use this or that. The amount of blackstone bricks I've used for building is countable in the hundreds of shulker boxes at this point, but that doesn't mean anything to someone who is evidently not a builder.
Good morning /mcg/. Tomorrow is the big day when i buy minecraft again after all those years :^) Can't wait to build stuff
>>575647815congrats
>>575648047thank you :)
>>575645380shitposting aside, I am definitely checking out the wither skull farm. but i seriously could not give less of a fuck about anything else nether related. my only active portal right now just goes to the roof to fast travel to my end portal, and even then I barely use it.
might be
>>575645380>>575659145i mostly dont bother with ianxofours stuff, just because im autistic enough to do conventional farm designs for better rates, but his wither skele farm is an absolute godsend, the alternative is a ridiculous amount of work for a relatively niche farm and his is so straightforward while putting up competitive rates
tryna make minesweeper but in minecraft, how do i cram all this shit into a 1x1xn tileable vertical column that gets activated by a pressure plate on top of the gray sand?
>>575659145>>575672809one of my fondest (relatively speaking) memories of playing minecraft was bringing several shulkers full of slabs to a nether fortress in a soul sand valley and covering every single exposed nether brick, then making a shitty pretty slow wither skellie farm at one of the crossroads. it was an absolutely miserable whole day experience, but it got me and the server way more than enough nether stars till that server ended.>autistic enough to do conventional farm designs for better ratesSame, I absolutely prefer a much faster gold farm design for example because there really is never enough gold for bartering purposes. But this instant wither skeleton farm man, it was like night and day. Genuinely a million times better than anything that came before it in terms of ease of building.
>>575672843I don't think you can. At most you might be able to make it work if you manually place the TNT, but any sort of dynamic system would require 2x2 cells
>>575641606Just use a mod, man. End this charade.
>>575641606>chance basedNot really relevant when you'll be doing hundreds of trades. It's very quickly going to even out

>>575688717big titty milfs
>>575688717-make stone cuts consistent across all stone variants-add limestone-add concrete & terracotta slabs, stairs and walls-add colored variants of clay bricks -add a Juan that you can somehow farm sand and gravel off of -port Bedrock's skin height options to Java-give every player a basic, plain, free cape (same texture as the old minecon ones) they can change the color of anytime (hue shift)that's more than enough for mojang's average drop size so I'll stop there, call it the "Ordering the Stones" update or something
>>575690193I like this, but while they're at it, they also need to make these changes>Cobblestone/Granite/Diorite/Andesite/Cobbled Deepslate/Tuff/Blackstone should all be interchangeable in the following recipes>Brewing Stand>Dispenser>Dropper>Furnace>Lever>Observer>Piston>Stone Weapons/Tools>Stone/Polised Granite/Polished Diorite/Polished Andesite/Deepslate/Polished Tuff/Polished Blackstone should all be interchangeable in the following recipes>Comparator>Repeater>Stonecutter>All stone types should be able to be infested by silverfishalso, you image is missing the new sulfur and cinnabar stone types
>>575691440oh, also forgot>The following blocks should all be smeltable into cracked variants>Bricks>Cinnabar Bricks>End Stone Bricks>Mud Bricks>Red Nether Bricks>Prismarine Bricks>Quartz Bricks>Resin Bricks>Sulfur Bricks>Tuff Bricks
>>575690193>-add a Juan that you can somehow farm sand and gravel off of Gravel is already farmable through Piglin bartering, so we just need a way to farm sand. I like the idea someone suggested the other day of there being occasional sandstorms in deserts that will cause sand layers to accumulate, akin to snow layers. There also was a suggestion to additionally add a Sand Golem, for easier sand farming, like the Snow Golem. But I think these ideas are too big to be added on to your drop idea
>>575688717A drop themed around new building blocks and opportunities:A fuckton of missing blocks. Concrete stairs, basalt bricks, polished calcite, prismarine brick walls, blue ice bricks, etc. etc.A bunch of simple new structures that utilize some of these blocks to thematically "justify" their addition. Add them to existing structure sets to minimize structure overlap (e.g. badlands temples that would be in the same structure set as desert temples but generate in a different biome)A token new biome (tropical island) with a token new tree type (palm tree) and a token Juan (the crab from a past mob vote; its claw giving players an extended block reach as per the original concept would thematically tie into the building theme)A tool for changing blockstates akin to a "lite" survival-friendly version of the debug stick, so you can do finer detailing with fences and stairs and stuffObviously there is so much more that can (and should) be done, but this feels in line with small drops like they've been doing lately.
>>575691440>suddenly giving a use to granite/diorite/andesite that isn't inventory fillerwould be too much, they'd never go for that
