Game said that half a year has passed since Seed became a Toushin, but it felt like one or two weeks max. So in-game time and plot time are not congruent.

BTW it might be one of the most "crossing the line twice" things that I ever seen in a game that the Himmlers you fight on Lvl30 attack with...poison gas.

Man, the story with the girl and the stones was rough. The weird thing is, I distinctly remember being 9 when it first occured to me that suicide is a thing that people can do out of desperation, which might sound obvious, but it is somewhat of a novel idea when 4 years before you probably didn't even understand the idea of death, much less more abstract concepts like despair and meaninglessness. I even remember where I was, what was happening and what the weather outside was when it happened.

It is to this day the closest thing I experienced to what one could call an epiphany.

I feel like TT1's tournament arc was more satisfying than TT2's. Both were all about gimmicks but in TT1 the gimmicks were usually there to put you on even ground with the other guy, not to beat them outright. Plus there were far less circumstancial wins.

The theme that the angels get sounds like bonus stage music in a platformer. I like it.

I haven't eaten a single angel so far besides the one you couldn't avoid eating when you became a toushin, anyway. Whenever I was tempted to do so, I thought about Craia being disappointed in Seed and immediately reconsidered.

I thought I wanted to be an asshole, but the potential benefits don't feel like they would outweigh the unavoidable psychic damage of being deliberately malicious against people who did nothing to deserve it.

...I wasn't fishing for a compliment, really, neither do I think of myself as a particularly virtuous person, it's just that, I guess, the moral choices of this game are not exactly like the situations you encounter in the Rance games, where Rance being an asshole is a lot of fun because 8 times out of 10 it happens against people just as, if not far worse than Rance, and 1 of those 2 exceptions is almost always played off as not that serious. Like bullying Kanami is fun because of her being a master kidnapper, and Lia getting fucked until her mind is obliterated is also enjoyable because of her sadistic past. I didn't like Sill getting bullied at first but you kinda get over that once you see how much he cares for her in serious situations. But none of that grey morality applies to TT2. Do I fuck the partner of this opponent who was brainwashed into being a participant? Do I eat angels who were virtuous kalars in life? Do I goosh goosh Gaji's waifu? It's completely black and white.

Anyway, it feels like the game is nearing its climax (no pun intended). I just had an audience with the Oni King. Those jailer onis you fight before you free Dellas were pretty fucking tough.

I quit in the middle of the fight with Dellas...what an awful fight. It's definitely doable if I bring along the correct gear, but it always turns out like ass when you're not fighting the boss as much as you're fighting for a chance to fight the boss. It also makes him look like a bitch. Am I fighting him or am I fighting three fairies and some guy with white hair in the back row? Plus it's always nice when the stats are not the actual stats. If I'm consistently missing two thirds of my hits, that's not 66 percent chance to hit, that's 66 minus god knows what percentage in accordance with their evasion stat.

Also I tried whether Magic Ban would shut down the healing fairy, but...no, she can use healing and revival even if you ban magic.

It probably doesn't help that the theme of the fight sounds a bit "royalty free JRPG boss fight music track 23".

That's it for TT2.

Pretty fucking ambitious game. I'll have to let the experience sit a while to really settle for a final opinion, but I definitely had a lot of fun despite a few things.

I certainly can see myself thinking very highly of it if I had played it on release (that is, when it was translated a little over a decade ago). Even so, it remains very impressive for what was effectively a deluxe garage project.

I didn't play the original versions of the first three games, but even when I compare it to 03, it feels more cohesive as a whole than 03 does. In retrospect the issue of 03's plot is that it never changes from the initial premise of "repel Helman and do something about the Fiends". While this game feels more dynamic. It also had an overarching theme to its narrative, unlike the Rance games.

I feel like Hazuki and Serena were also better written than most female Rance characters because they were more proactive, independent and on equal ground with Seed than most women not named Shizuka in the Rance plot so far.

Seed himself though is definitely the weakest point. I never felt like he had a center. His moments of being pathetic are a bit too cringy and his edgy moments are a bit too out there. He was simultaneously too cold, too hot, and too lukewarm, as paradoxic as that may sound

I also thought it to be rather awkward how Billnas just peaces out of the plot after the Toushin Tournament arc.
