You learn about gods, old wars, and then suddenly realize you’ve spent 10 hours reading lore about ancient gods and geopolitical conflicts like some basement-dwelling fantasy historian. The game has that old-school rpg energy where every faction has a 20-page backstory and every named character could headline their own storyThe world actually feels ancient. Nations have histories and religions , gods actively interfere with mortal affairs and every conflict feels like it’s the latest chapter in a war that’s been going on for thousands of years. Celica is also a great protagonist What if we made the main character a walking historical event? From the moment the game starts it’s obvious the world doesn’t revolve around him ,he bends the world around himselfBy the end of the game people don’t talk about him like a person they talk about him like he’s King Arthur or Gilgamesh. Ikusa Megami Zero feels like an archaeological artifact from a lost age of PC gaming when Japanese developers had neither budget constraints nor editorial restraint and produced games with absurd scope and niche appeal.
