Did I mention that I love rainwater?
>>575559576Was there a nerf? They used to have no maintenance need.
>>575560570Yeah they have been nerfed so it's not 100% free water anymore, but that sn't stopping me from using them for literally everything that doesn't specifically need seawater.
>>575561469They should slow down replenishment of the water reservoir instead.
>>575561785Yeah I haven't really checked if the old "3 pumps per ground reservoir" ratio still holds, maybe they buffed ground water replenishment, I don't know.I'm just used to spamming rainwater collectors everywhere so I don't have to drag pipes halfway across the map, I'll eat the maintenance penalty (rainwater costs more than 2x maintenance for the same amount of water compared to ground pumps) until better forms of desalination arrive.
Moving to vulcanus in earlygame sounds very comfy. Did anyone try?
>>575547905Based on number of muslims there, France is 3rd world country
>>575547905French Mauritania
>>575564261I think it would be fun to run a deathworld with raised difficulty, escape to Vulcanus watching your base crumbling, and return later to reclaim the planet with artillery 'n shiet.
>>575552968oh, you were so close
>>575572115For that we'd need a way to do orbital bombardments.Build artillery turrets and a radar on a station and then have the ability to shell any already explored part.Could be nice if you could set the station to auto-fire.Place one in orbit, have it automatically squash any spawner on the map while all the ground base does is send up shells and use radars to make new spawners visible.Would have the nice side effect of constantly triggering attacks from all sides.

>>575594469is this game like dsp or factorio in the way that you end up tearing up early game builds for more optimized mid-late game builds once you have more infrastructure?
>>575594769What dogshit mechanic? Also you can set up bots before going into space or make a tank and give it a personal roboport which you can remotely drive from any other planet.
>>575596890the whole space station that you can't actually go to and have to do everything remotely and can only ship 2 items up at a time and it adds weight to the platform and you need more fuel and blahblah. id rather have a teleporter system to the planets desu
>>575594769>dogshit mechanic>never even had the chance to try itlol. lmao even.
>>575597142adds weight? what the fuck are you talking aboutyou are literally inventing imaginary problems in your head and getting upset about themno one gives a shit about the weight of a space platformthere is no tyranny of the rocket equation
>>575597764it costs more fuel or some shit. i got like halfway to a planet only. too much busywork
>>575595976Mid-game you can upgrade in place and mostly be fine without having to move things around, most buildings have the same footprint and pipe/belt connections when upgraded, but for late game you kinda have to tear things down and do things from scratch unless you plan everything from the start like a psycho. Things don't necessarily become obsolete though and you can get by with your mid-game builds for a very long time, but the game tempts you with massive efficiency (and complexity) boosts when going up in tiers so it's really up to your laziness and tolerance for inefficiency.I tend to do things sorta quick and dirty at the start because I can't be bothered to plan for every single new tech and pipe tier and future ingredients so I rebuild things a few times, but you can avoid doing that a lot if you are a bit more patient. The game also gives you access to all the recipes even if they aren't unlocked yet so you can see what's ahead of you and prepare accordingly.Picrel is my T1 steel area for example. I could simply upgrade all buildings to T2, add one ingredient to the mix and be perfectly fine without having to move anything, but I've built myself into a corner, I can't expand easily and there is no proper water access; I will simply wait until I clear some space elsewhere and rebuild everything to T2 standards over there with more space and better access to resources instead of upgrading this area and having to move it anyway.
>>575597142>that you can't actually goBut you can, how else will you get to other planets?>and have to do everything remotelyWhy would you want less control over your space platform?>and can only ship 2 items up at a timeNot every item has the same weight limit. You can definitely ship multiple items like belts, inserters, and machines up in one rocket.>and it adds weight to the platformThe only thing that adds weight to the platform is adding more actual space platform. Items don't count.>and you need more fuelWhat's funny is going slower uses less fuel. Space platforms early on are all about experimenting and finding the sweet spot for speed and efficiency with your thrusters. You don't have to max out their usage 100% of the time. It's generally bad to do so anyway because your turrets might not be able to destroy rockets fast enough at higher speeds.>id rather have a teleporter system to the planets desuYou might as well download that everything on nauvis mod if you're really this stubborn and fed up with space platforms.

Finally, this shit is OUThttps://youtu.be/BUYSikP8DywIf you were wondering why this took two months. To start with, shortly after I finished streaming I got some weird infection from a bite or sting that gave me full body swelling and rashes for like ten days, so that made me feel like shit, but the main cause for delay was I foolishly thought I could try and offload the actual video editing portion onto someone else in a desperate bid to reclaim some free time. They weren't just some nobody, but as it turns out, apparently I'm the only person who knows how to make these videos. I just didn't think it was that difficult to copy my style considering there's like 6 other people on Youtube who already do that, but the short of it is I had to spend another 8 days completely redoing the entire thing myself.Anyway, here's Nullius pt1.
>>575594769This has to be bait.

>>575599568When are you going become a big tiddy anime vtuber?
I can't believe Dosh killed his one and only editor for failing to meet his standards. It's harsh out there for video editors...
>>575599568Just curious: how much does it cost to have someone edit a video? If you don't want to say how much you paid, I'm ok with just a range from tolerable quality to what you think would be excellent quality for the standard of a channel like yours.
>>575599568I was just looking for something to watch, thanks doc
>>575599568when are you playing dsp or coi
>>575599873As with anything, it depends, but I'm hardly the authority. If you want a professional, expect to pay about $25 or an hour. Considering it took me ~30 hours to redo all the editing, you can do the math. Also be aware that just because they're a professional doesn't mean they have the mental capability of understanding why people watch your videos in the first place, because maybe they're too accustomed to editing stream highlights and anything that requires a discerning eye goes over their head. You know, in business we say you can only hope that 1 + 1 ends up somewhere between 1 and 2, and not less than 1. Sadly it's often the latter.
>>575600738I'm not even remotely in the business of making videos, but since you mentioned editing you got me curious at how much a professional might ask for such a job.I figuerd there was a huge range of rates and quality expectations, but I was interested in what's approachable or acceptable for a moderately sized channel like yours. I can only imagine the pain (and money thrown at trial and error) of finding the right person considering how many styles of videos are out there.
>>575597142You don't "need" to add weight, you ARE adding weight. And it's barely used in the calculation.Use ghost blueprinting to design your platform and let your bots handle the construction. If it's too slow, focus on making more rockets. If you don't have every things you need to create a platform in your logistic network, focus on that. You only need a few of the more exotic piece of machinery so you can just setup an isolated assembler with a single requester and passive provider to build a stack or two and you'll be fine. That's literally my setup from the start to post game for stuff like thrusters. You'll basically never need more than 10 thruster for a single platform and maybe 20 to 30 in the very, very end game.
>>575599568IT'S FINALLY HEREOH LORDY LORD IT'S HERE

>>575599568yay
>>575603446Explaining how weight works doesn't add anything to the conversation because it's basically a useless number. Adding a single unit of width is stronger than adding literally 5000 tiles.

>>575632904I use a "no multiplier on infinite techs" mod, but it doesn't work on some SE ones since it's weird with how the science pack requirements change.I do think you'll probably have to cheat in arcos or something, and naq in general will be a pain. The new refinery is complete. It was designed to start up with electric boilers but I seriously underestimated their power draw, even if only temporary until the refinery's gas boilers could get going. The resulting grid spike shut down most of the factories in the area and disrupted many services which required hasty priority changes. Also the local water consumption in this area is too much for the main so the refinery will eventually stall out when it exhausts its reserve tank.It IS operating correctly though, despite the extreme strain on power and water infrastructure. Even with its electric startup completed and the electric boilers shut down, the demand from all of its processes is proving too much for the old coal plant.
>>575643171Infrastructure built on reclaimed land like that looks like its always at risk of just falling into the sea.
>>575642058>https://litter.catbox.moe/v2rvqhoazncgdha4.webmHere's just an excerpt. It's not the worst of it, but it's perfectly indicative of the overall feeling. I'm sure there's someone out there who could watch this and not notice, but someone I showed this to said it feels like it's from an alternate universe where I'm at rock bottom and simply stopped giving a fuck.
>>575643171for starting refineries I usually use woodchips to get the initial steam going. easy enough to keep a storage bin of it topped off and on standby in case of emergencies. I've found that relying on the end product of the refinery to provide all the steam will eventually result in a shortage without something to pick up any slack or pauses in the production chain.
>>575644880Yeah, I can see the issueFeels like the pacing between the lines is non-existent and it just goes it goes like on a beltWhile your editing feels has a bit of a pause between themAlso, the cuts feel a bit jarring I guess?

>>575595976Yes. As a brand new player you won't be aware of the upgrades you get later on which would have been nice to know about 30 hours earlier. You can spaghetti together a solution but it won't be pretty or space efficient compared to just tearing it down and doing it again. IMO playing with 100% returned construct parts on deconstruction is a good idea unless you're a masochist.

>>575599568>22:52>at this point iron is as much of a waste product as gravelI work in mining, and that is truer than you can imagine. iron is in almost every damn mineral, and it's annoying to separate out of the ore because so much stuff likes to bond to it that some of it just keeps sticking around no matter how much you refine it. in fact if an ore body has too much iron and not enough of whatever we're mining for, we don't even bother with it cause it will be more of a hassle than it's worth. You know how gold and silver bars will only ever say up to 99.999% pure, not 100%? it's because that last .001% is fucking iron.
>>575655647incomprehensible spaghetti it is thenat least until I get access to construction botsthen maybe I'll learn how ratios work

>>575655745Once you get access to construction robots, you should start looking at blueprints and circuits.
>>575663913I started my own save after half-watching his first stream, it's not that bad without the nickel and phosphorous mods. Definitely pushing the limit of byproduct/intermediate bloat, but unlike, say, pyanodons it gives you the tools to deal with problems reasonably soon after they appear. The trigger techs are legitimately annoying though; I like the concept and prefer it to pyanodon's system of slow-startup-exponential-growth recipes as a way of incentivizing doing more than AFK until you have the whole tier of research done, but I think there are too many of them that encourage making bad builds or random handcrafting just to hit the trigger.
>>575667452>pushing the limit of byproduct/intermediate bloat, but unlike, say, pyanodons it gives you the tools to deal with problemsPy has free voiding of everything. Nullius forces you to bring in another resource or two just to get rid of the first one.
>>575667891oops I think I was mentally mixing in hardmode, I forgot that literally all fluids were immediately voidableThat said I don't feel like ash processing is at all free; even if you're throwing it all in burners it still takes fuel, and that's ignoring the X hours it takes to even unlock them.
>>575669264I don't remember having much trouble with that. Isn't the burner available from the first science pack? Or maybe the second. And almost every processing chain involves some burnable item. You can also put ash back into the burner to fully void it, instead of doing ash separation.
>>575621545
>>575645667The ratios always work out right for the setup to be self-sustaining. Sure you need an initial external kickstart to get the first steam going, but past that the only thing that can bring down such a setup is a blackout or an oil rig that can't keep up with demand.
>>575655734InterestingIs iron the big one you're filtering or are there others?
>the newbies feel the need to care about ratiosWe should be ashamed. Post your shitbases now!
>>575675159Not him but silica and sulfur are also things you can find everywhere but those are easy to chemically separate.Iron is annoying because it's extremely stable as well as abundant everywhere..
>>575676110Thanks. I had the naive misconception that iron was always good to have.
>>575676293Different anon but plenty of deposit types can be like 10-30% iron as an element, but it's all bound up in various minerals that you'd have to extensively chemically process to get anything out of so it all gets chucked out as waste. Most actual iron deposits the ore is like half iron by weight and that's mostly in much easier to process oxides rather than common minerals.t. geologist
>>575683049Yo geodude, do we still have 40% copper deposits left on earth or did we really locust up all of them by the 21th century?
>>575684632it's not like the metal disappears when we use it, it's just a pain to recycle
>>575684816I heard mining the stuff pollutes much less than recycling them, like burning off all the insulation then electrochemical separation via acids. Also cheaper.
>>575684632In a very pedantic sense yes, but probably not any that are realistically accessible. A 'deposit' 2kg undergrounds isn't really a deposit at that point, but maybe there's some undiscovered ones in some unexplored portion of the Amazon or New Guinea or something just waiting to be found. From what I've seen the focus is less and less on finding a high grade deposit and increasingly on "what kind of engineering black magic can we pull to try and make this <0.3% grade ore viable". There's >>575684816, but it all comes down to energy in the end. You can get copper out of some really low grade rocks it's just an absolute pain, so it comes down to whether recyling it is even more of a pain or not. Demand for copper keeps rising with the move to electrify everything too, so if it keeps up as it currently is we're going to be needing a whole lot more than what's actually been mined in total so far.
>>575676293Iron ore deposits aren't economic to extract below ~60% iron content.Pure rust is barely 70% iron. Even a few percent not iron oxide can make an iron ore deposit entirely worthless.
>>575599568>I got some weird infection from a bite or sting that gave me full body swelling and rashes for like ten daysI got this from bed bugs. Well, not full body reaction, but half of my limbs would swell and itch like crazy for at least 2 weeks after a bite.It is a blessing in disguise though, such an extreme reaction was practically an early warning system, and I hear most people's body don't even react to their saliva, only to discover months later that their bed has more bugs than bed. So I've unlocked T3 refining forever ago but I couldn't be bothered to upgrade yet cause I had no use for the extra products and now I'm facing a dilemma.I could simply upgrade everything by adding the T3 stage, convert as much crude as possible into diesel and live happy ever after, oooor I could go for the hydrogen route, converting as many crude derivates as I can into H2, convert all my vehicles to use fuel cells and stop depending on diesel. Picrel is the hydrogen refining column, it makes 145 H2, 72 diesel and 6 fuel gas. I could refine diesel even further to turn it into more H2 but I'm happy with that and it helps with the transition period from diesel to H2 vehicles.I'm leaning very heavily towards the hydrogen route, but I have another problem: In order to provide steam for this whole thing to work, I would have to use half of its hydrogen production just to boil water and I don't want to do that, but also I don't want to use coal, so I was thinking of diesel generators and electric boilers.Would it be that stupid to divert half of my diesel production just to have two fuel generators powering an electric boiler? The boiler needs 9 fucking MW of power to make enough steam for the whole refining column and two big generators make 10MW and use 36 Diesel.
>>575687465Cheapest would probably be burning some heavy oil for steam instead and simply not cracking it
