There's not enough discussion about how the dark worlds are meant to evoke that feeling of kids playing pretend and that all the characters within a dark world have to buy into the imagination. Toriel HAD to be asleep or she would kill the magic with her realism outlook. Asgore is an adult who doesn't buy into the larp but he's still drawn into the darkness because he's schizobrained. Undyne buys into the larp perfectly because she's chuuni and gets punished for it.Susie knows intuitively that it's meant to be a pretend game which is why adults can't take part.Ralsei is a GM who strings his friends along the adventures with a hand-holdy attitude. Flowery is that guy that goes "I use my OP laser beam to nuke everything and instantly win" which pisses Ralsei off because he's ruining the adventure. Everyone's pretending the pencils and toothbrushes are weapons but the Knight brings along a REAL bat and attacks everyone in real life with it.Whatever this means, this tells us the Knight doesn't buy into the fantasy that Kris and Susie see. It sees that Flowery is just a flower and smashes it. This also demonstrates that darkners can easily be unpersoned the moment people stop believing in them.Ralsei has control over the "game" and could potentially interfere to help his friends. But he also has to make sure we the player are engaged with the game mechanics or we would see the world for what it really is and stop suspending our disbelief.If there is a sword route, then I think it's about becoming like the Knight. The "trance down" effect attacks objects in the light world, or possibly deletes dark worlds altogether. It's a deliberate rejection of what dark worlds, even games in general, are supposed to be, because you don't buy into the imagination. You're too jaded to play games so it's time to force reality back into the world.

Susie is literally the only character who can push the plot anywhere that isnt an early bad ending, so he had to muzzle her to be infinitely retarded and thinking about anything that isnt the main plot. She is no longer the person breaking rules and pushing the story along of her own will, she's been stringed up like any other puppet in this story
