Hello all. FNaFfag here.Finally finished Chapter 5 for myself yesterday and goddamn, I was impressed. Markiplier really didn't give this series a fair shake, sorry you had to deal with that from him and my fellow botfuckers.I'm happy to see the mascot horror genre continuing in a way I can vibe with. Steel Wool's efforts haven't impressed me and Poppy (in subtle enough ways that I can think it's coincidental) reminds me of Charlie (book timeline, not game).

Poor little cinnamon roll blames herself for everything from Ollie's initial torture in (re)creating her to the Hour of Joy and thinks she deserves to die. Poppy, like Charlie, also has a tendency to run off on her friends without explanation, for much the same reasons.I also see parallels in to John's relationship with Charlie in Giblet's with Poppy. John is a childhood friend of Charlie who has an awkward (but mutually well-intentioned) romantic relationship with her. John and Giblet IMHO both stand out as these no-frills, cocky good guys ("hero"=/=good guy, bear with me :V) who want to "save the girl" not just from the series' explicit antagonists but also from herself. They don't realize how unmatched they are (Giblet, poor naive Giblet, thinks Poppy's suicidality is just some temporary mania from "being in the case too long"). It's really fucking sad. I love it.

An example of an alternative take on FNaF's story that still works would be Charlie's in the novels; Scott's FNaF games aesthetically evoke ruined childhood with the imagery of haunted pizzerias and blood oozing out of animatronics, Charlie's story makes that narrative-based by making it about a woman haunted BY a ruined childhood (both literally and figuratively). Both are rooted in "rotten nostalgia."SOTM is about the Mimic, who's a generic evil runaway robot. That story has no reason to be FNaF except obligation. It's a story running on autopilot.
