I remember reading a post on Serenes Forest a few weeks after Echoes released that compared the two games thoroughly, including screenshots and videos, as well as text and audio dumps. The general consensus was that Echoes was better in everyway except for the addition of Conrad. They discussed everything so deeply and I wish I could find the original thread.

I think Berkut was a good addition, in really reinforced how cruel Rudolf’s plan was as well (to throw away so many Rigel lives in basically a false flag to build his own son up) but I hate Fernand. I feel like his nobility primacy policy, that he sadly inflicts upon Berkut, reduces the philosophy of Rigel to nothing. It always seemed to me that they had a “to the strongest” type of country. I do think it’s interesting how Mila is more flawed, I don’t remember anything negative about her in Gaiden at all, I think she was entirely a force of good and the humans had to cope without her, they weren’t better off without her. In Awakening, Valentia becomes a shithole so I guess they didn’t manage too well, then again so does Archanea. Both continents suffer from a thousand year technological stasis without the gods and the UK of Valentia and the Seven Kingdoms of Archanea both collapse. I don’t like Rudolf’s design though. It looks too goody to me, I preferred his old design where he was a young guy still, he could be in his thirties, forty, still close to the peak of his physical prowess which felt more right to him and his country.

Conrad has the highest non-DLC res growth in the game, so that's pretty cool. His base defense is oddly low, but his high growth can hopefully mitigate that issue. The blessed lance he comes with is best off given to a Falcoknight max forged for easy Fiend bopping, though he can make good use of the Lost Treescape silver lance. It's just that getting him to promote reasonably can be a pain, since you have to basically solo the Lost Treescape with him, and even then he can very easily end up short on exp, so you'll have to most likely backtrack after Duma's Gate to promote him, or do so in Duma Tower. He's basically like the actual Gotoh of Celica's route, but not really since he still wants investment to promote.As a character, he has no business being in this story. I get that they wanted to have a natural GK on Celica's route (aka someone other than Atlas), but his story involvement and personality really don't do anything. He shows up and saves Celica a few times, but Celica ignores his warnings and chooses to carry her burdens alone. His entire character is basically "Celica's brother" and nothing else, which is a shame. I would've loved to have him interact with literally anyone else. Give him a postgame support with Zeke for god's sake!
