If you're doing too much good for the Garlean empire, you risk alerting ascians, and a Garlean just has no chance against an ascian. Immediately posessed (like Solus) or just outright killed. This also cancels out any meaningful "betrayal" storylines, too.I could go on but those are just off the top of my head.
