Soft carries top and middle are great, but Top often requires an anchor pick. So you can only pick a carry Top in certain situations, otherwise your off-lane becomes an open lane for an enemy split pusher.

Top needs to be able to survive dives/ganks alone. While also, being able to clear the wave. And prevent the off-lane towers from being destroyed. Dependjng on weak-side and strong-side though. This dynamic can change between the Top and the Bottom/Support. One example being, the Bottom being the off-laner, while the support roams. League isn't a fixed game though, so there is a number of evolving strategies and counters.
