>What the heck is this
/indie/ is the general for all indie games, such as Age of Decadence, A Hat in Time, Axiom Verge, Baba Is You, Battle Brothers, Battlerite, Card City Nights 2, Cave Story, CrossCode, Cultist Simulator, Darkwood, DashBored, Dead Cells, The Desolate Hope, Disco Elysium, Environmental Station Alpha, FTL, Guacamelee!, Hollow Knight, Knytt, LISA, Lobotomy Corp, Machinarium, Middens, Monolith, Monster Train, Noita, OFF, OneShot, Rimworld, Rain World, Slap City, Slay the Spire, Starsector, Subnautica, Sunless Skies, Tooth and Tail, Underrail, VA-11 HALL-A, Yume Nikki, etc., as well as other games that just don't fit in any other general such as Atelier, Pillars of Eternity, Rayman, and Valkyria Chronicles. /jrpg/ is welcome. Idle games are cool too.

Mobile or consoles, Flash or Unity, freeware or early access. This place is a home for the indie game community and indie and obscure games that don't have a home. So be free to talk and share all your hidden gems, forgotten games and starving devs here.

>Can I talk about games that already have a general?
We mostly discuss games that are not popular enough for their own threads, however, all indie games are allowed. So talk about them if you want, but don't overdo it since you already have other generals for that.

There are tons of games that don't have permadeth and are not garbage like Borderlands. That is just strawman fallacy.

Pick for example, every other metroidvania ever made, Castlevanias, Cave Story and compare to something like Dead Cells, for example.

Designing games to be playable for people who are simply bad at video games requires building the game around mechanics that are fundamentally too lenient to create a challenging and engaging experience for people with functioning brains and hands.
If every game was made to be easy enough for my friend who is worst at video games in the group every game would be too boring and easy for me to enjoy. But that friend is also just not capable of becoming good enough at video games to complete content that I would describe as even mildly challenging, same for my dad.

too bad they don't have bullet physics like xcom proper, or phoenix point. pure statistics is such garbage.

actually I just wish PP would have a proper invasion defense mode instead of the post-apocalyptic thing. the initial invasion of the mist monsters sounds way more interesting than the actual game.

Today I saw a 19 year old play a gba game with a heavy crt filter for immersion and hardware accuracy. It's weird, is this what it feels like to be old? You see young people not exactly understand what things were like in the past and do stuff like that. The gba wasn't a crt console, it used an lcd screen.
I wonder if my parents and grand parents also experienced that about technology of their time.

Some artworks are suspiciously AI-looking, but it's just on the threshold between AI and " honest human error" like weird looking hands and chessboard not making sense
Also the devs updated the game and said "-fixed some images" without clearing the controversy
>>
>>576468172
They're still garbage. They're inherently dangerous, it's impossible to hide the smell and you can't use an odorless fuel for obvious security reasons.

This game was cool but also weird for me. It's named idle but requires quite a lot of interaction and upkeeping so I also skipped repairing the terminals because I thought it wasn't necessary. It should let it be more clear that you do want to end your runs by idling the terminal repair and that it also gives augment bonuses. I only started repairing terminals when I already had a ton of augment points from tasks and skipped most spire and especially reactor repairs too since I thought the "idle" in the name was just a meme
>>
>>576468337
The first steam engine was invented by the ancient Greeks, they were just too inefficient for any practical use.
There were also several functioning models used a few centuries before Watt came up with his design.
I always find it funny when people say that if they ever get isekaid they just invent steam engine and kick off the industrial revolution. The issue isn't that nobody could come up with the idea. The issue is the lack of advanced engineering knowledge to make it work.
>>
>>576472630
the funniest part is that 99.9% of the people saying that shit probably don't even know how a steam engine works beyond "water vapor makes thingy spin"
>>
>>576469136
I don't know anything about the game or the controversy but that chess board certainly looks beyond simple human error to me.
Like there is sloppy drawing and there is putting two pieces on a square where they have no business being I just can't summon up the good faith to believe a real person would do that THRICE. Especially the ones on f8, under his hand, because you could argue the other two pairs are taken pieces that are supposed to be off the board.
And chess is notorious for being misportrayed in media, but usually it's just pieces moving nonsensically, I think even someone who has never touched a chesspiece, knows that it's one piece per square

It's a... I think the term is "extraction shooter"?
Basically, you drop on a map, do an objective (craft a bomb, boot up a drill, get a payload started), and it unlocks the boss. You kill the boss, then ride your horse to the extraction, and you escape into the sunset, whistling "I am a poor and lonesome cowboy, and a long way from home".
You can also do side objectives to get "jokers", whose interest vary (getting a +30% movement speed when shooting when you use a bow isn't that interesting), or do quests for achievements, cosmetics, or even new maps. The maps are premade, but the locations are randomly generated, so the different points of interest will move around, but the secrets won't.

Something I do like with Far Far West is how straightforward and easy it is.
A lot of monsters are slouching forward, so landing headshots is very easy: if you pick up ammo, it completely refills your ammo pouch AND your current magazine, and healing items give you +80HP (you start at 100). So you don't have to do that annoying thing in Darktides where one ammi pickup gives like 10% ammo and another 33% but you don't know how much max ammo you have.

Her father punched through the wall (which was lined with newspaper due to how poor they were), grabbed a rat out of the wall, then threw it on the floor and stomped it dead. Different times.

Helldivers 2 is about the best comparison I can think of. Neither is a 'pure' extraction shooter like Tarkov or Arc Raiders, they just have currencies you collect during a mission that are only kept if you succeed.
You drop in, clear map for permanent progression currencies and quests, do mission, leave. The only major difference between HD2 and FFW is the maps have static layouts.
>>
>>576545221
I get what you mean, but at the same time, it feels like the plot is more about resisting an overwhelming necromancer than raising chaos. You're a good guy, and you can't really disturb any economy by stealing cattle, gold, or trains.
It'd be fucking fun if you could, though. Go ask the devs what their plans are?

God damn, nice kit. For me 1 was much harder than 2.
>>
>>576560184
I was thinking about this, and I think the reason 2 is easier is because there are so many more aspects vows etc. that it's harder to balance tightly like in 1, and as a result you can get a combo of vows and aspects that is overall much easier. Plus, cast as a crowd control ability is really nice.
>>
>>576560742
I did it backwards and played 2 first. Unlocked all the weapons, maxed the arcana and keepsakes, had a pretty good handle on the game. Went back and tried 1 and got brutalized. Think it took me 31 runs before I got my first win. I hope they make a third. I love Greek mythology.
>>
>>576562771
Playing 1 during it's second early access on steam was an experience because you'd beat Hades and die because there was literally nothing else afterwards. I did that dozens of times. The catharsis of there being ANYTHING beyond him is far more than what the game's story could attempt to produce, but that's also a very thin boundary to uphold as "reasonable game design". No one wants to play Waiting for Godot, even if they swear 1.Godot edition is coming out in six months.

The shopkeeping and dungeon crawling are both below average which makes the game feel pretty anemic. A lot of people that played it were desperate for an evolution of Recettear and disappointed. It doesn't help Hades came out shortly after with infinitely better isometric combat of a similar mold.

Where do you guys draw the line with Early Access?

Is a short but clearly labeled first release fine if the devs are active and upfront about what’s coming, or should an EA game already feel worth buying even if development stopped tomorrow?

Full disclosure: I work for a small studio that recently released an EA game, so I have some skin in this. Genuinely curious where “supporting development” ends and “paying for an unfinished promise” begins.

What do you mean?
>Is a short but clearly labeled first release fine if the devs are active and upfront about what’s coming, or should an EA game already feel worth buying even if development stopped tomorrow?
Depends if I really really really like the idea and I want it to succeed to the point that I'm okay to give money for a tech demo. Or if I just want to play something that just have little content.
Also:
>reddit spacing
>>
>>576602273
if the dev team has no track record I'd be iffy getting a game that just released into early access unless it already has enough content to make the purchase worthwhile. If the devs already made well regarded games and/or the game has already seen timely and sizeable update while in EA I could consider getting it even just for the promise of what's coming, but I'd have to really really like the premise because I get games to play them now and I have no interest in testing very raw projects.
I'm playing INFRA and since I'm liking it I'm considering getting Obenseuer too despite it being in early access, but I can already get dozens of hours of gameplay out of it from what I've seen
>>
>>576602880
That makes sense. We ended up going with a free demo alongside Early Access for basically that reason. People can see whether the core idea and gameplay work for them before paying, while the EA version is for players who want the current content and are comfortable with it still growing.

Does having a demo meaningfully change how willing you are to take a chance on an EA game?
>>
>>576603161
That’s helpful. So for a new studio, the premise might get your attention, but the current build still needs to justify the purchase on its own. The roadmap only starts carrying weight after the devs prove they can deliver meaningful updates.

We kept a free demo available alongside EA to reduce some of that uncertainty, but it sounds like that helps answer “is this any good?” more than “is there enough here?”

When you judge whether there’s enough content, is it mostly hours, replayability, or whether the available portion feels like a complete arc?
>>
>>576603380
>Does having a demo meaningfully change how willing you are to take a chance on an EA game?
Yup. It's like devman is okay to know how much content the game has before tricking whoever to give him his wagiebucks.

Anyone playing this or played the demo?
>>
>>576603921
Yeah, that’s basically why we kept a demo up for Tamer: King of Dinosaurs. I’m with Ride the Lion Studios. The current EA build has the first major story block, and the demo lets people judge the core gameplay before paying. Not going to spam a store link, but that’s the game I’ve been talking about.
>>
>>576603548
keep in mind that some people are much more willing to be "beta testers" than me, some enjoy the idea of being among the first to play a promising new game and the feeling of "seeing behind the curtain" that an early build provides, it's not a huge amount of people but they can be enough to kickstart a project imo
>When you judge whether there’s enough content, is it mostly hours, replayability, or whether the available portion feels like a complete arc?
hard to say, it's more of a gut feeling and it depends on the genre, in something with a strong presentation and a prominent narrative a few good, high quality hours can be enough while in a procedural game or in an rpg the more variety and sheer amount of content it has right from the start the better.
A demo is a very good sign, not only is it handy but it also displays trust in one's product, devs that want to make a quick buck with false promises rarely provide one
>>
>>576604921
That’s the part we’re trying hardest to get right. We know people have been burned by EA before, so we’re being as clear as possible about what’s in the game now, what isn’t, and what we’re actively working on next. Keeping the demo up is part of that too. We’d rather people know exactly what they’re buying than feel like they’re gambling on promises.
>>
>>576605519
that's the best that you can do, the rest is a combination of luck, having a strong product, and good marketing. It's a competitive market but also a large one and there are always people hunting for hidden gems, I like your attitude and I hope that you succeed
>>
>>576604252
Played the demo. It was neat, but felt like there wasn't enough there to make me want to buy it.
Obviously the full game would have more content, but I didn't feel like there was that much they could add that would shake up the core gameplay loop
>>
>>576606239
>but felt like there wasn't enough there to make me want to buy it.
This is what I am worried about, I specifically didn't play the demo cause I saw a youtuber do like one mission and it seems like even seeing more than that already spoils 90% of the game
>>
>>576606325
To be fair I did play the demo for over 4h, because it does give you a rush to plan a fire mission on 4-5 targets, take a deep breath and execute on it as fast as possible, while a timer is breathing down your neck.
But I'm unsure if a couple more ammunition types and enemy types would change that gameplay loop significantly

I've gotten burned too many times before on buying a game in EA and either falling in love with a version of it that was ephemeral, seeing the game never actually come to fruition, or just encountering too much jank to the point I have to wait for full release anyways. The absolute worst case scenario is a game where the devs are overly responsive to EA feedback and lose sight of their own vision, and hone the game around a subset of overly-invested players until it's unplayable for anyone else (Dead Cells, One Step from Eden, etc.) At this point if I buy a game in EA it's a case like Sulfur or Alabaster Dawn where I know I'd be buying it on release regardless so I feel fine supporting the dev through the process, essentially treating it like kickstarter. I typically wait until after release to play even in those cases.

That being said, 1.0 is completely arbitrary and up to the dev's discretion given the amount of post-release support/patching most games get, so in some senses my view on EA often stretches for months after release. More than once I've bought a game on release, struggled with severe problems that soured my experience, and seen those problems fixed while I was damn near done with the game. I've also had cases like Lone Fungus where I really appreciated the feel of the game and the dev overcooked it after release due to people not understanding the rhythm of play, breaking challenges and core progression in the process.

Basically to trust EA I need to trust that the developer vision for the game is strong enough to be informed by the community, not sculpted by it. That's a high bar to clear at this point.

Of all the games to try and copy, why would you aim for something as stylized as Sable if you aren't able to match the quality? And sure, Sable was aping Moebius pretty heavily but with the masks and other small things this is very clearly copying Sable rather than pulling from the source.

Sadly, that's why I gave up on EA. Too often, I played a game that was way too janky, and I repeatedly myself "it'll be fix, it's just early access", but comes the full game and it's still janky: issues that have been here since the start have not been adressed, the devs "only" added more stuff.

also I think that specific mission makes you walk your shots in over a few shots instead of directly telling you the final target immediately
probably because its a tutorial and they want to make sure you know how it works
or maybe because they don't want you to fire a live shell at the king or something
>>
>>576617537
That specific mission was vague probably to make the player get used to shooting.
The rest of missions provide VERY accurate coordinates (if you intersect the locations given) since you get gold medals for not wasting ammo/resources.
In one mission of the demo there were 2 possible enemy locations but if pay attention to the mission lore, only 1 of those locations make sense, the other does not.

damn, I did find the map that indicates its entrance and a paper talking about how the disgraced logging company guy had ended up there but I didn't expect to straight up visit it. I remember enjoying the demo a year or so ago but I wasn't in the mood for another DE-like game and it seemed derivative at best. It turned out to be much more playful, less preachy, it had more of a tabletop feel to it and the world building was amazing as well, that's not to say I didn't love Disco but all I'm saying is that Ebb stands on its own as a great game in that same genre.

Backed out of Wizzerd Quest 2. Was not vibing with it, even though it's kind of the weird game that's usually up my alley.
It's a mix of a real lack of variety in anything period, the fact that the later levels are super barren for any sort of loot (why even add a chest system if you just stop using it after the first two areas) and the lack of any real loot besides. Then the quest system is really buggy and hard to follow.

I dunno, I expected more interesting levels and things to see, I guess.

Imagine dropping a buffed Fire Bomb every 2 seconds.
This ship has 4 of these.
And a 4-tile teleporter with a starter crew of 4 Lost Suns.
And 2 chain-fire bombs because why the fuck not.
The same mod also has a ship made out literal lava and even that's not as big a matchstick. This is, I believe, too much fire. Almost.

I'm amused that I correctly eyeballed these as 80cm shells, it's two schwerer gustavs taped together and put on legs. But also the implications of this are insane.
Iron nest's turret and the guns it was equipped with were stated to be a repurposed german dreadnought turret mounted onto a walking chassis. This means the german navy in the 1920's in this universe has dreadnoughts sailing around with at least one turret equipped with dual 80cm guns. The bismarck had 38cm guns, the largest H-class battleship proposal had 50cm guns and was projected to be 130,000 tons to mount four of them, the heaviest warships ever made in real life are multiple classes of american supercarriers built from the 90's onward that are about 100,000 tons.
The german ship that gave iron nest its turret was also sold to castille in a naval modernization program, meaning the german navy in iron nest probably has even larger ships that replaced it.

Yes.
>I do worry about artillery duels and timed missions later on
This depends entirely on how good you are at learning basic artillery operation or your innate ability for it. I can't say how bad it is for other people, it wasn't bad for me.
>"you're actually a baddie"
There are some decisions you can make later that lean into it or soften it or reverse it depending on what you want to do but I will not go into detail.

Here's a French game concept. A sniper elite like called "Operation Homo". You play an agent of the SA under the supervision of the DGSE sent all over the world on political assassination missions. The game would start off with easy targets in the middle east and would escalate towards political figures in Asian, America and Europe with additional objectives like "Don't get spotted" or "Make it look natural/accidental". Basically hitman but French.
The name is based on this: https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Op%C3%A9ration_homo

What's Lone Fungus? Sounds neat.
>>
>>577014348
Lone Fungus is a pretty solid indie metroidvania with a heavy emphasis on platforming. In particular, the player has a variety of spells that fire projectiles that you can chase after and pogo off of for sequence breaks and several other environmental objects that can chain into more elaborate platforming challenges. In the first game the dev changed the jump arc a few weeks after release and completely broke multiple challenge rooms that were precisely tuned to the original physics. Completely indefensible, but that's the good and bad of these solo dev projects. You get clarity of vision but you're also prey to that one individual's willpower.

The sequel is unfortunately a step down in pretty much every way. Platforming is less fluid and full of gimmicks, bosses are now over-elaborate damagesponges rather than jokes that you pogo to death, the level design is an abomination to god with core progression locked behind things like finding a hidden one-off key on the other side of the map with no hints funneling you in that direction or back towards the lock, and the combat's godawful because you do absolutely no damage to enemies with your basic attack unless you've inflicted a status on them with your pogo. The dev was malding on twitter after silksong came out and I'd bet money he spent two months after it released absolutely skullfucking his game until it was unrecognizable.

Here is my concept with it:

Operation pedo. You find pedos through posts on 4chan, find where they live and kill them in brutal ways.

It plays like hitman, but with a twist: the most gruesome the death, the higher it is you ranking. You can enter the target house guns blazing making him shit his pants, you can burn the whole house down, throw the target in a woodchipper, thrown them under a steamroller, all the things that Hitman was too shy to let you do it.
>>
>>577042268
You can have a wide range of levels, from house/neighborhood levels to events and public places. Just imagine: a level with multiple the targets that are also furry, and you need to infiltrate a furfag convention to kill them.

I hate how roguelike has just become synonymous with you have to die a bunch to progress
>>
>>577047707
I like it in some slop like survivors games, where you have easier maps, the runs are shorter, and upgrades are often fast to get, but in everything else is shit.

Metaprogression:
>game is balanced around full max level skill tree
>any run before it is a waste of time, because you have no chance of winning without the upgrades

Pick between random 3 rewards on level up/exploring the map:
>you know exactly what is needed to improve your build, but the game gives you shit instead
>better luck next run buddy ;)
>or worse, its an action game and you are forced to play with an weapon you don't like/don't want to use

Future generations will look back and wonder how this become so widespread.
>>
>>577048739
Most roguelites aren't even like that, they let you have a lot of small victories before eventually killing you, if they don't let you finish the run and unlock the higher difficulties.

For C-beams I'm talking about the flight. I prefer simpler models. But I'll give it a shot and see if I can adapt to it.
When it comes out next millennium or something.

Though I think the one I'm most looking forward to for space games is probably Masada. It's an open world RTS thing with RPG stuff from what I understand. Ambitious it seems, and frankly that seems worrying.
>>
>>577149954
>Masada
wow that does sound interesting, but looking at how empty the steam page is it's probably gonna be a while. The concept of a simulated civilization where you can decide how big or small the stuff that you directly control is reminds me of Distant Worlds

Huh, I've always thought you were like commanding a fleet/merc group, something like that. And I guess with traders, logistics and what not.
>>
>>577151047
>You are not the center of the universe in Masada. Ships and their pilots will carry on with their business whether you are there or not. Encounter miners hauling ore back from excavations, ambush traders as they bring goods across the nebula, scavenge wreckage from battles you stumble upon, and much more.
I was referring to this, in Distant Worlds you have control of an entire civ but the concept sounds similar, just on a different scale
>>
>>577153256
Ah. For me it's X4 instead. Like how everything is simulated instead of just spawned in when you go there.
Makes me wonder how performance would be like.
>>
>>577153567
DW is described as "real time 4X with pause" whatever that means, I could never get into it because it's too complex and autistic but it's interesting. I don't think that performance will be a problem for Masada, simulating what's going on in places far from you is probably done through relatively simple formulas rather than by actually controlling ships that you have no hope of meeting

>It looks good! I see it has first-person ship piloting, do you need a HOTAS or is the flying enjoyable on mouse and keyboard as well?
NTA. You don't need anything fancy to play it. Past the first few hours it devolves into a UI simulator, as you manage trading routes, mining operations, production of goods and ships and RTS military fleet combat.
>>
>>577159463
>do you need a HOTAS or is the flying enjoyable on mouse and keyboard as well?
I mean I don't have a HOTAS.
It's really more of an empire builder though, but they did this year or last update the flight engine so it's supposedly better, and last patch a couple months back overhauled the combat.
Personally though I just hired a pilot to do all the flying for me. You just tell them where to fly, what to do. But last I played, which was before last patch, you'll want to be careful about trusting the AI to do combat with you on board. Fleet engagements work out okay, as long as you don't expect miracles.

Otherwise you basically get fleets of ships and stations, give them standing orders and leave them to do their stuff automatically. And occasionally fly around if that's what you want to do.
I did hear good things about the latest major patch though, so combat might be more enjoyable now.

Rambling on, but it's biggest draw, and to a certain extent, drawback, is that everything is simulated. Ships need to be built from materials that are refined at factories from raw materials that a ship somewhere harvested. And the stuff you do, it does have knock on effects based on that. Like going around killing all the miners could starve a faction and all.
That's also a drawback to a certain extent, it means that they for the most part, don't spawn ships for you to kill, And if you're not careful, you might accidentally wipe out the main enemy, which is annoying if you want to be friendly with all the factions.
>>
>>577162242

>>
>>577163029
>I see some reviews complaining about jank
It's an ambitious game, and really one of it's kind. But the ambition, generally means there would be issues here and there. I wouldn't say they are game breaking or anything though, but they are things that might or might not annoy you after a bit. But as long as you understand it's an AI, and in some ways simplified so the galaxy simulation can run on a home PC, then you'll be fine. And things are always being refined, slowly at least...

Also I recommend getting some of the DLCs, not too sure how it is nowadays, but the base game used to be a bit sparse. Iirc the company wasn't in good shape when they launched it. They are doing fine now I think, and they release chunky updates yearly. They are one of the few companies I trust.

But anyway, I dunno how they package it on GOG, but I'll get something like https://store.steampowered.com/bundle/30503/X4_Community_of_Planets_Collectors_Edition_2024/
I'll skip Timelines and Avarice for now though. Timelines has a couple new ships, but it's main draw is really the sandbox independent missions. Avarice is... It's okay I guess, but I dislike the asymmetrical junk ships it comes with, but if you like that aesthetic...
The other 3 DLCs are basically faction packs that significantly enhances the sandbox with new factions, sectors and ships. All 3 are good. You can also add them on even midgame, so don't worry about that.

Also if you like Star Wars, SWI is apparently a great mod for that, though I haven't personally played it, someday in the future. It requires almost all DLCs though.
>>
>one trillion games to play
>keep launching gemcraft: chasing shadows
>>
>>577163029
>I see some reviews complaining about jank
It has surprisingly less than previous games in the franchise.
Besides what the other anon said, most problems can be fixed by going out of sector, so the game simulates stuff in a simpler way. My main gripe with the game is that late and very late game, your CPU can double an industrial heater for a steel mill.
>>
>>577164819
Yeah, and there is a teleportation you can upgrade in case your pilot decides getting stuck in another ship is fun. Even if you don't want to use it, it can be cheesy, it's still useful to deal with stupid bugs like these.
Though they did get a new collision engine thingy awhile back so you shouldn't be stuck in other things that often anymore.
>>
>>577163997
thanks for the DLC overview, most of it is 70% off on GOG so funnily enough I could get everything in the Community of Planets Edition (basic one, not the Collectors) for cheaper than the pack itself (35€ vs 40€). It's a fair price so I might just do that and leave out the more recent Hyperion and the Envoy packs for now.
Funnily enough I love sci-fi but I never cared about Star Wars (except for the old lego game, I loved it)

>Funnily enough I love sci-fi but I never cared about Star Wars
NTA but I kinda vaguely understand you. I was once explained by a friend that Star Wars is closer to "fantasy but in space" than "real" science-fiction.
>>
>>577165606
>more recent Hyperion and the Envoy packs for now.
Those are just mini ship packs. They basically add the ship and a small quest to get them. They are decent ships, but it's really something you want to wait to see if you enjoy the game or not, then add it. Or don't get them if the description doesn't interest you, you wouldn't be missing much imo. Unlike the big faction DLCs.
>tbf there's only so much optimization you can do if you want to simulate a ton of things
Each DLC you add basically makes the game requirements go up. For a long time the Avarice DLC should as well be pay 2 lose because of the DLC faction having a shitton of fighters just being a resource hog while doing nothing much, though apparently that was a bug and should have been fixed.
>>

>>
>>577167147
>the description says "A brand new sector, waiting to be explored in the Open Universe" in both so I thought there was more to them
Technically true. But in practice, it's precisely what it says on the tin.
Also a sector is... the largest continuous region basically, like you can only travel sector to sector through gates, you cannot just fly out there manually. But each sector is discrete. Anyway, you can think of them as different maps, but it's not as big as you're probably thinking. Well, you'll figure it out soon.

I don't have the Envoy pack, that was around when I got burned out on the game, but for the Hyp pack, the main reason you get it is for the ship, the other stuff is basically so it doesn't feel as cash grabby like if you buy the pack and the ship just magically appears in your property. It's a good ship, and has a significantly more detailed interior compared to other ships, if you like that sort of thing.
But a little history, the Hyp was the premier player ship back in X3, so a bunch of it is also cashing in on nostalgia, and well, the playerbase has been asking for it for forever anyway. It's not as OP as it once was though.

That's a good way to think about it, like I wouldn't say they aren't value for money, there is quite some design work going into the ships, but that's mainly aesthetics. And their special gimmick, if you like it it could be worth it, but if it doesn't fit your playstyle otoh...
But it's not like they just release it like that, each DLC is also accompanied by a chunky free update too. Which imo is something that people complaining about the price forget.

Though last major update did a major rework of ship turrets, among other combat tweaks, while not being accompanied by any DLC release. OG turrets were... serviceable, but they didn't really have strong faction identity.
>>
>>577169226
>is gonna take me a long time
The trick is realizing that once you get some automation going, you can afford to just leave it running for a bit and see the money flow in. Unironically what got me interested in idle games when I realized I was spending a lot of time idling.
Just a bit, until you setup shipyards and auto ship replacement, leaving it for too long could have you come back to a dead fleet. Or spend a lot of time fixing the holes. God, it sucked before we had auto ship replacement, that was the dark times.

Also the save files are plain text, though you need to decompress it iirc, so you can just go edit your cash if you want to skip the early game. Or setup a custom game I guess, you can do that to setup what you start with, or even just to take a look and test drive the ships, if you don't mind spoilers of what's in the game that is. Though just flying around would basically reveal that anyway, I'll say 99% of the stuff you can get, is already flying out there, there isn't really like secret ships you can get that is player exclusive.
>>
>>577169526
yeah I skimmed through the latest big update and it's a chunky one, a very good sign in my book. If a smallish dev team needs to periodically sell DLC to the dedicated fans to keep developing a big game so be it, I appreciate the ambition
>>
>>577168523
I'm just very, incredible pissed off that they take things that everyone love, and they make them about themselves.
Literally fanfiction.net-tier writing where a kid would pretend he's writing about Sonic but he's really just writing about how much he hates his parents and school and everyone. Same shit Walt's shithole do, and same shit with Velma, someone watched Scooby Doo and thought "what if I made it about how much I hate white people and males?"
>>
>>577170720
Yeah, they've been doing it for a long time. It's not X4 because of 4X in case that wasn't clear, it's because it's the 4th major instalment, well, 5th, if you count X-Rebirth. That one was a misstep though, and I heard it nearly tanked the company, but at least they bounced back with X4.
A little history, but XR was the first time they had space legs, i.e. the walking around part, before that your avatar was the ship itself, like in most games of these types. But the real big issue with XR was how they went from fly anything to fly one ship. It's a little more complex than that, but TLDR, it wasn't well received by most of the fanbase.
That and frankly Egosoft games on release are generally quite buggy... They didn't call them EA, but that's what they essentially were.

Also the X-universe has always had 5 major factions, and 1 enemy I guess, even from the first game, X4 released with only 3 and the 1 enemy, and the other 2 were DLC. You'll also notice that a lot of the base game ship designs aren't as detailed as the DLC ones, though they've been slowly working on rectifying it over the patches. You'll note that some ships have an E affix. Those are the new designs they added.
And station construction vessels also used to be all carbon copies, but they swapped those out for new designs later.

I like idle games but I don't like idling in non-idle games, that said I often play slow and waste time so certain things do naturally progress (a shitty factory in Factorio, for example), but good to know that I can edit the save file if needed
>>577172657
this reminds me of how in Across The Obelisk the dlc characters and skins have drawings that are visibly more detailed and higher quality than the base one, which looks a bit off and eventually warrants a rework.
A lot of people lament the times when games were on disks so development was mostly a one and done deal, but the opportunity to keep working on a released game has made it possible for devs to work on projects that go above and beyond what would have been possible with their resources otherwise

Ah yes. The eclipse. The eclipse that will barely be visible. Everyone got sold defective glasses here so that might be a problem.

Now I shrug.

Well that sucks. It's gonna be about 80-90% here, gonna bust out my zoom lens and snap some pics I ordered my glasses way too late so I'm not sure if they will get here on time, so worst case I'll have to watch it through my camera screen

That was probably total solar eclipses, also people used to live in whatever shithole they were born in until they died. The idea of a 200 mile roadtrip to go look at an eclipse would've seemed like literal lunacy.

I don't have glasses so I'll just stay indoor and ignore it until it's safe. My parents plan to not use safety glasses because "it was fine in '99" so I'll likely have to babysit them again.

why are these harvest moon clones so popular?
>>
>>577209564
They give a good deal of freedom to the player regarding how they want to deal with the world, they drip feed new content in the form of areas, abilities or mechanics, and they have a solid game loop in the day-to-day mechanic that rewards you each morning, meaning it's very easy to get hit by the inertia, going "just one day more" and playing for weeks.

Frankly I thought it was okay. Gameplay wise, it had some interesting ideas.
The UI though, X2->X3 didn't have much differences frankly, but I completely bounced off of the XR UI even though it's supposed to be improved. My biggest issue is actually the map, I cannot find my way around with that PoS.

For new players, X4 should as well be a masterpiece of UI design.

>>577183345
>but good to know that I can edit the save file if needed
Though keep in mind you're basically opening a multi-GB file in Notepad++. That... would take awhile. It's better, and easier to just make use of custom starts instead. Not the budgeted one, the creative one, so it has no limits.

I... have it. One of the versions, anyway. I don't at this point know what the differences between the versions is though I think I looked it up once. I've watched Albino play it once or twice. Might give it another go when I inevitably burn out on Grim Dawn in a few days. I do hope you can un-purple though.

IIRC Rebirth is the base game, Afterbirth is the DLC with an update labeled AB+, and Repentance is a "Free"LC that requires AB+, and itself has a Rep+ update. Still less confusing than trying to buy the Hitman WoA trilogy.

I have 180 hours and 429 achievements in it, played a ton of it when I was in uni with a shitty laptop. This was pre-Repentance (did everything I could possibly do in AB+ so now I'm burnt out on it) and according to most people the game has improved quite a bit with the new DLC and updates. It can be pretty masochistic but it also gives you incredible dopamine spikes when you get certain items and synergies, and there's a stupidly big amount of things to unlock so the progression is quite satisfying. Completing a certain challenge or reaching a goal almost always unlocks something new that affects the gameplay so it keeps you engaged, and as you grow familiar with the mechanics and with the tools at your disposal you can "game the system" quite a bit and learn how to take advantage of certain items and situation to snowball into a broken build.
And then you die because of some BULLSHIT that you couldn't have predicted and something you had never seen before instantly ends a promising run... it's a game with high highs and low lows
>>577240365
there are international pixel fonts, you'd probably have to use more than one to be able to also include asian languages but surely that's standard in game dev anyway

China has sanctioned VPNs because they have access to their servers. You can read more about it on https://www.chinafile.com/reporting-opinion/features/leaked-documents-show-success-of-chinas-vpn-crackdown

Some big sites like pornhub are still accessible here just fine. I guess they just don't give a fuck and will not adapt, until they are already losing lawsuits. They will probably just delay as much as possible.
>>
>>577270126
Funny enough, in France, pornhub is one of the only site that doesn't do its age verification client side so you can't just delete the censorship or lie to the site. There might be others but all the ones I've tested (including X) can just be bypassed by either deleting part of the html or just sending a positive response to the site.
Fansly doesn't have age verification yet, which is surprising. But it's only a question of time I think.
>>
>>577179335
4chan is not a social media, no really. The European DMA defines social media as:
>‘online social networking service’ means a platform that enables end users to connect and communicate with each other, share content and discover other users and content across multiple devices and, in particular, via chats, posts, videos and recommendations;
Point 1: 4chan doesn't allow you to "connect", tripcodes are simply too primitive and not used enough to be considered a form of connection.
Point 4: 4chan doesn't allow you to discover other users, not anymore than leaving a review on amazon would.
While it would be funny for Hiro to operate from a country that literally bans his site (Not a chance he would implement age verification), that's fairly unlikely to happen. I mean, 4chan still doesn't have age verification for the nsfw part of the site.

If he plays turn-based or non-action, and has good speed and normal +100bps bandwidth it would be good enough.

Come try out Pixurbia 2D Crime Sandbox! I'm looking to get a small batch of players for the online multiplayer in my free crime sandbox game. Gonna stream the game for a while after I release my latest fixes in a sec

Just added a second major city full of properties to buy, horse race betting synced in multiplayer, PVP air combat anywhere on the map, new PVPVE raid zones, tons of improvements across the board

Players in fighter jets can attack other players in flying vehicles, and there are dedicated PVP zones for on foot combat (north end of map or under the military base in the starting city) otherwise it's safe to roam around.

Browser versions are singleplayer, online multiplayer is exclusive to downloading and installing the game for Windows (probably works with Linux somehow too)
