You are forced to lose the first fight with her (She's trying to knock you out, not kill you) and the monsters in the Ruins are more vocal about the fact Toriel locked them in an even smaller portion of the underground they cant leave. You have to open her eyes to what she's doing before you can leave>Papyrus' own conflict is pretty much the same, but in the end he isnt just a friend, he's an ally. He recognizes the underground is against you and after befriending him wants to actively help you. He actually becomes a party member when Undyne tries killing you and against Asgore where he decides he doesnt want to be a royal guard if it means he cant keep his friends>The barrier isnt broken in the end, because using the fallen souls would deny them an afterlife and leaving it on the grounds of more bloodshed only fuels more war, so the protag elects to stay underground and they just wait until they have 7 living, willing humans to help

Then it goes back to a softer, familiar melody, but it's not the same as before.I'm 100% totally far off from your vision because I don't have the full context for this swap or when and where the battle would take place, but you're on the right track if the song and other concepts for this particular swap has me imagining scenarios like this. Can't wait to hear the finished version!
