Framing it as sonic team's "vision" or intent for the characters is very threatening. Yes, X is far from a perfect show; it doesn't do the best job at adapting things like adventure and flanderizes the characters to a degree, but for most reasonable people it's very easy to see the canon parallels and where sonic team was probably coming from. The characters all have recognizable flaws and idiosyncrasies and behave more or less how you would imagine them to (I especially love the Chaotix in that show). Anyways, the people trying to discount x or sonamy are silly. Even if it was played for laughs, it was still there throughout the early 2000s. It's hard to see naka not approving that s2 ending if there really was nothing there (that also goes for knuckles and rouge, a ship that some people think never existed).
