The entire time I've been on this subreddit, I've heard everyone here sing songs and praises about White Album 2. While I was interested to see why it was so popular, I didn't bother looking into it. But I'm a HUGE sucker for romance, and after hearing that White Album 2 is one of, if not the best romance visual novel on the market, I've already decided I'll pick it up. But I've never heard a thing about White Album 1. Is it necessary to play the first game before this one? Will I miss out on a cool reference or cameo if I skip to the second game?I'll also use this chance to ask for any other romance visual novels I could try out. So far, I've completed Doki Doki Literature Club, Katawa Shoujo, the Grisaia series, Slay the Princess, The NOexistenceN of you AND me, and Lupercalia of the Silent Accord, all of which I've greatly enjoyed (except The Eden of Grisaia, sadly). If you think I should experience more visual novels before getting into White Album 2, feel free to recommend anything else that would better prepare me!

The reason this novel is so acclaimed is mainly cause of the prose and it was everyone's first divergence into something that broke the traditional moege flesh golem mold and tried being more serious and 'realistic'. Story and characters are not bad per se but they are overrated and the epitome of saying a lot while saying nothing and making mountains out of molehills.
Anyone one here try the move to actual books? Realized books just ain’t my thing. Too much word slop. Blood Meridian for one was a chore to get through. Sticking to using Muramasa, Fata Morgana, and Dies Irae as my examples for high literature
