Pink is actually a really powerful affirmative statement about the role that fiction and self-insertion can have on someone's journey of self-discovery and actualization. Yes wanting to be an "animated catgirl" is kind of weird, sure, but through this fantasy Maddie has finally begun to thrive and come out of her self-imposed isolation as a hikikomori. And I know you guys think the trans allegory angle is cringe or whatever but like, think about all the trans women with anime and cartoon avatars and stuff. Yeah, sure, maybe it's cringe, but those people are through that fantasy and assumed persona finally able to express their true selves in an important way. The whole "anti-escapism" angle that people read into Deltarune is just wrong. The point has always been for light and dark to exist in BALANCE, feeding and driving each other forward. The mission has never been to seal all the Fountains and banish all the darkness forever. In fact, the whole "Angel's Heaven" thing smacks of light, doesn't it? An excess of light and a rigid refusal to dream is just as bad as a complete escape into fantasy.

I think the Hammer of Justice is structurally the most dysfunctional secret boss that kinda messes with the premise too muchHe's so important to the themes of the story and Susie's character arc it's absurd his battle is technically optional like the story doesn't even work properly if you don't fight himIt's also set early in the chapter compared to all the other bosses which are either before the end or at the very end itself of the chapter hence it doesn't give a strong sense of cherry on top accomplishment like the others doI'd say the Chapter 3 mantle game + fighting the Knight felt like much better ways of twisting the secret boss formula still keeping the essence you're doing an optional unexpected thing
