I think part 2 would've succeeded if the character designs didn't look like overdesigned AI-generated chinese MMO genshin characters. That's where most of the negativity was coming from.

APHO marked the point the developers stopped caring about the current story (which was only at the midway point then), and started focusing on the future (APHO+SR). It feels like every arc since then was them winging it, because all they know is how they will end the story, not how they will get to it. APHO also has the problem where they can't actually explain anything that happened to the world and characters after because they need to be able to still make main story changes if they want too, as well as mhy just being as obtuse as possible as always. All that defeats the purpose of having this cool after-story. Then they have to keep the future as open as possible too, so nothing happens for 75% of it. Gameplay and characters are cool, though.
