Toby said Flowery was meant to come off as a Mary Sue and I don't think he was very successful at that considering everyone loves Flowery and his power of friendship schtick. Though that may be not just on Toby but also on weebs generally loving flawless Mary Sue power fantasies.Personally I think Flowery was a missed opportunity because on his own, he really is a flawless character, his only "flaws" are losing to the MC for not having plot armor and getting killed for being a fool. Which I guess are interesting enough add-ons on their own, and probably would've been mind-blowing back in 2015. But they're both tacked on very late into the chapter, almost at the very end, and before that Flowery really is completely flawless and I think that was a missed opportunity to deconstruct that sort of character writing more and show how it falls apart in a more realistic setting.

His dream can’t last more than a few hours. Asgore didn’t particularly enjoy his theatrics. Asgore himself was kidnapped. He got killed. What he really accomplished was about the same thing that the Old Man did: challenge one of the party members to steel their resolve to face the coming crisis. The point, though, is that even though he was doomed to fail, he tried anyway, and made an impact on those around him, brought joy into the world.
Thinking about it, chapter 4 is probably the most important chapter in Deltarune so far. It establishes the prophecy as a greater force at work and gives the story it's actual stakes. I think that's why people felt let down by chapter 5, they were too affected by the tension that got built up and wanted it taken care of as soon as possible

The first half of the chapter, sandwiched between more serious moments like Toriel getting over her hangover and Noelle getting the phone call, is a quirky dark world where everyone is hyping up Susie for the festival and said happy festival where pressing matters like attaining the codes are almost entirely forgotten about in favor of Suselle fluff and the worst you get is Kris being jealous or a third wheel. The flower king dark world, barring the beginning and end, doesn't feel tense or urgent at all because we need Ralsei to bicker with Flowery to ignore how inactive and complacent Susie is becoming and we need character development and dates for the flowers. There's no feeling of doom, it's more like the game is suddenly remembering things like "oh, Susie would probably want to get the codes" before proceeding as normal.

Chapter 5's Dark World was crowded. I liked what I saw of the Flowers but didn't feel like any besides Aqua and Seth had enough time to endear me. Flowery too I guess. The Garden of Hopes and Dreams got us introduced to, and acquainted with Flowery. At the end it introduced Aqua and Seth whom we got to know well during the Cliffs section. Then Flower Castle somehow tries to fit 4 different flowers into itself all at once. This made the top of the castle and the whole sequence with running sky feel narratively rushed for me.

I found Pink too easy. I thought Pink came out of nowhere, but made sense when looking back at the hints present in earlier chapters. I thought Pink was too subtle with the lore before the patch. I disliked the patch being added at all, but appreciated getting new information anyways. I enjoyed Pink. I found Flowery funny. I was disappointed when Flower Man had no lyrics. I was more disappointed when I realized there wasn't gonna be an Asgore fight. Flowery became my favorite flower. My opinion of Asgore went way up as a character.I found the game's constant attempts at "trying to get everyone who doesn't realize what's going on to follow along" to be grating. I felt proud of being ahead of the curve when it comes to understanding what's going on. I did not care for Suselle. I was a Krusie shipper. I do not hate Kris. I want to help Kris in any way I can. I still loved the Suselle scenes, even with the somber undertones of Kris being left out, because that meant I can now try and get Kris to speak up for once, and help them more.
