Yoshi repeatedly shilled it with the phrase "slow life" and all marketing/dialogue material around it treated it like it was supposed to be this mellow creative experience with less mechanical focus and more sandboxy than the main game. Instead it's so shallow there's no opportunity for personal expression - people minmaxed the export spreadsheets because there is nothing else to do. All the crops and animals and handicrafts serve ZERO purpose outside of cowries, and the handicrafts aren't even real items, just numbers on a meter. It's not even good for RPers when the Island has a tiny player cap and you can barely customize it.I did all of it on release and didn't bot it, but in hindsight I should have. Even Farmville has more depth and that's a literal browser game.
