I really liked Chaotic and I did clear it on a thread hosted group, but they always drop any new idea after one set if it underperforms instead of trying to isolate what the issue was.
I think content like BA is a good example of why a more midcore content is so hard to pull off, you create an environment where the newcomers can get carried without much friction, but only if you incentivize the old heads to keep running it over and over, and this requires a lot of coordination still which is why those runs almost always are discord coordinated.

Notice that people say Advanced Variant is good content yet it never pops in duty finder so you have to go through PF if you want to do this "easy" content

ff14 will almost never have satisfying and useful rewards because the core design of the game goes against the search for power and character progression. the very fact that savage gear isn't useful in any instance other than savage itself (and ultimate) says as much. half of the reason why i strive to make my character more powerful in ffxi is helping my friends also become more powerful. you can't carry your friends through content in ff14. gear plays absolutely no part in the game other than killing the boss 30 seconds faster, letting you parse higher, or needing one less mit per raidwide. you can't become the powerful guy in the server who helps new players. you can't live the power fantasy of seeing content you used to struggle with go down easily; it just doesn't happen.... and in that very constrained design space it's no wonder all rewards feel underwhelming

FFXI is far from perfect, but I'd say it's got the most compelling form of endgame I've played in an mmo. You can always go back to easier content to help people, get a rare drop you were missing for a set, farm currencies for your ultimate weapons, etc. It gives you reasons to almost never stop doing previous content, despite you being overleveled/overpowered compared to most enemies there.

I mean, it's true that it's more simple skill-wise and a lot of things are solved by zerging, but I think it is also clear that it helps with the longevity of the game and it makes rewards feel meaningful. People still farm kclubs and drings (not so much with the new limbus ring, but point stands) to this day. There are still nyzul isle parties, etc.
