The number 1 tip to enjoy FFXIV is to just play through it at your own pace, there's nothing awaiting you in the endgame that won't be there anyway once you reach it, and the game is all about the main quest. A Realm Reborn has slower parts that might bore you because it's all about setting up the world and story, but it also gets you more invested.

Free Trial players are fine, in fact they are babied a little too, but you more or less got full reign of what a sub player can do except social features (adding friends, but you can be added, sending private messages, trading, joining a Free Company, aka clans, using the marketboard), have a gil cap (not really a deal breaker early on) and unable to do PVP.So you are more than welcomed to play as a Free Trial for as long as you see fit, some like me couldn't last a day, others try to make the most out of their free reign.
