The real reason for the initial hype had more due to the fact other developers were not implementing rollback netcode properly when the game was called Project L. People were more in hype for "this will be the next step for the fighting game market!" rather than for it being a LoL fighter, and this reflected in the marketing too. It was less about the LoL characters fighting each other and more about the developers and people behind the game. Turns out people don't care that much about the Cannon brothers or ApologyMan.
