So I've been installing games to a mounted drive that isn't the OS drive, which means they won't get wiped next time I do a fresh Linux install. When I mount that drive on my next Linux install, will I need to sudo chown/chgrp every file on the device for the permissions to work? Or will files that belong to user ID 1000 just belong to the next Linux install's user ID 1000 etc.?
I've got multiple users both on this Linux system and on the drive's files, so it won't just be a matter of `sudo chown -R $USER:$USER /mnt/data` if I do have to fuck with it.

I'm too lazy to check if there's a Firefox setting that I should have turned off. Doesn't matter now.
>>

Why do you even use Firefox instead of any fork with telemetry disabled? Are you worrying about economic state of Mozilla and want to do your part?
>>
>>578412251
It's the default browser on Linux Mint, and instead of doing something, I did nothing.
Actually I just verified in the settings that I did disable all the obvious "send data to Mozilla" options, but apparently it pings incoming.telemetry.mozilla.org:443 (or tries and fails since I'm blocking it) regardless.

I had been tracking all the games I've played in 2026, but I got lazy a few months ago. So I looked back and tried to fill in the missing ones. I don't know if the order is correct now, and I might have forgotten some. Oh well.
Now it's in ImageMagick montage form, because I don't want to edit the HTML file that I was using to add comments to each game in the grid. I can't think of something funny to say for each game anyway. Out of present boredom and anticipation of future laziness, I made a script that defines the image order (so I can append to this if I don't immediately lose interest again) and then attempts to find a number of columns resulting in a square-ish image (but will also deviate a bit if doing so results in a perfect rectangle). The math is not rigorous but it seems to be working well enough for the current number of games and I will just do a minimal-effort fix if that changes.
These aren't all games I've finished by the way, so don't ask me what I think of Fahrenheit's ending yet.
>>
File: montage.jpg (1.57 MB, 1400x2100)
1.57 MB JPG
Added three more games I forgot.
I almost decided to get rid of the code that tries to find an optimal number of columns, because running the `montage` command with `-tile 0x0` results in almost the same behavior. Either way, I get a 7x7 when there are 49 images (pictured). But letting `montage` pick the dimensions for 50 images results in 7x8 with only 2 in the 8th row, whereas my code makes a nicer 10x5 (not pictured; I added a duplicate Duke Nukem cover to test it).
>>
>>578420730
>>578422480
If you want to keep track of your games I suggest Yamtrack. It's a self-hosted service where you can track progress of your games (movies, tv shows), keep lists, rate them. It has integrated gamedb search so you won't have to fill metadata or pictures by hand.
>>
>>578422480
>letting `montage` pick the dimensions for 50 images results in 7x8 with only 2 in the 8th row
Oops. Fuck. I meant it did 8x7 with 2 in the 7th row, i.e. 8x6+2.
>>578423704
Maybe I'll check it out. But if it has lots of shit to fill in then I might be tempted to sink too much time into it.

I can't believe I forgot that I played Quake III Arena and Quake III Team Arena. Are they considered separate games? I'll say yes even though I don't have separate shortcuts for them. (I don't know how to launch directly to Team Arena using ioquake3. Adding "+set game missionpack" to the arguments doesn't seem to do it. Maybe they didn't bother to add support for this because Arena has an option to switch to Team Arena in the menu.)

I think the whole master is easier than hard came from the whole bullshit surrounding starter weapons and their abysmal accuracy having created myths about the damage system.
I would still recommend master but that's just because its the only one I know.

Good to know.
I started another attempt at the introductory quest, but just as I was trying to shoot some dude in the face with my insanely inaccurate pistol, my kid came in and asked if I was playing Portal. lol.
So I figured I should cease the extreme violence and let him play something kid-friendly instead.
>>
btw I do know the game mostly works in widescreen, but I remember the scopes being ovals last time I played in a non-4:3 resolution, and I don't feel like installing any mods right now.
>>
>>578463426
>I was trying to shoot some dude in the face with my insanely inaccurate pistol
A lot of weapons in STALKER are like but the starter pistol is on a league of its own. It gets better and thankfully it's just as inaccurate for you as it is for your enemies.
>Is it true that higher difficulty levels are actually easier
I think the higher the difficulty the higher the damage so (you) and your enemies die way quicker.
Since you are still at the beginning why not give it a shot?
Also, Shadow of Chernobyl is very very buggy so you might consider using the Zone Reclamation Project mod. It's just a bugfix and should keep it very very close to vanilla!
>>
>>578465745
>It's just a bugfix and should keep it very very close to vanilla!
Might check it out if your "very very" and "!" aren't sarcasm hints.
>>
>>578465745
Okay, sounds legit.
I think it was the "Complete" mod that I used ages ago thinking it was primarily bug-fix changes because it was shilled to me as something everyone should install immediately without trying vanilla. But that's more of a graphical overhaul and I think I remember it adding some of the sequels' features to the original.
>>
First real attempt at first quest with the bros (>>578463426 didn't count). I won, but Petruha died and I felt bad, so I loaded my save.
>>
Second attempt. I gave my life for the greater good.
>>
Third attempt. Not a lucky number, it turns out.
>>
Fourth attempt. I'm getting pretty good at rushing these guys. Sadly, a bro died. It was an unglamorous off-screen death. Such is life in the zone -- but I have the power of time travel, so I loaded my save.
>>
Fifth attempt. Head count came up short after all bandits were dead. Petruha was unalived again. I think the mini-map has a marker on this guy, but I don't know if he's actually important to proper question completion or if it was just trying to show me the location of my squad.
>>
I quit after that and it was already late when I started so I should probably go to bed. It was such a short gaming session that I'm not even mad about making zero progress. Plus it's a game I already finished before, so it's nice and nostalgic but I should really try to finish Fahrenheit before hell freezes over.

What the fuck? There was evidence to hide as Lucas before the interrogation. If I had failed to do that, would I be able to avoid a game over by waiting out the clock instead of looking at the evidence that was left out?
Maybe it wouldn't result in an immediate game-over anyway. I did find a pen, with fingerprints the cop thinks, which I didn't have the option to hide as Lucas. So he probably gets his evidence regardless.

A slow-dance QTE is this scene's gameplay. lol
>>

>pointless scene
Fixed. I was so mad about not seeing naked titties that I forgot to proofread my post for missing words.
In other news, my cop waifu is such a incredible fingerprint analyst that she can say with 100% confidence that the prints on her computer screen match the ones she MEMORIZED from the paper that's still on the other side of the room.
>>
At least this part has some non-QTE gameplay in the form of a rudimentary evidence-matching puzzle. All the pieces of evidence are in the room, and you have to pick one to memorize and then pick another that links to the memorized one. One of the pieces of evidence is a scrap of paper torn from a larger sheet that I made Lucas hide before >>578526310, so finding it as the cop instead would probably have just given me one more thing to match in this puzzle. I obviously didn't need everything though. The scene ended after I matched two sets of things, and I'm pretty sure there were other usable things in the room that went unused.

I guess I'm fully into the part of the game where the plot goes fucking crazy, because Lucas beats up the cops with kung-fu and telekinesis, dodges bullets, runs through traffic, hangs onto a helicopter, and escapes on top of a train.
I didn't get any good screenshots, but if you're never going to play the game and you want to see it, it starts at about 2:00 in this video (not mine).
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sok-snErZos
It's pretty funny because the action scene starts with Lucas saying what I'm pretty sure is the same dialogue used in some game-over moments. I actually thought I'd fucked up somehow.
Incidentally I did fuck up several times after that, and I only had one life left at the end. I guess the rest of the game is hard mode unless I get more lives. Maybe I can chapter-select and do it again?

This part was weird.
The Mayan expert sees through my lies. If I keep lying, he still reveals that he knows I'm the fugitive he saw in the papers, but hints that I should leave through the back door while he slowly walks over to inform the security guard. At this point I stayed in the room and lost on purpose just to see the getting-caught scene.
If I instead tell him the truth as I did on my second attempt, then he reacts with horror that I'm a murderer even though he already knew, but then, when he realizes some prophecy bullshit is true, agrees to talk to me and goes WITH me out the back door. And then dies, in the next action scene, I think? So I guess I'm responsible for his death now.

If I make webms of that game then I'll have to run it at 1920x1200 instead, because when I record 1920x1080, it gets all fucked up with a green bar at the bottom, because some genius wrote code that can't handle video capture of resolutions which aren't a multiple of *x16 despite 1920x1080 being the most common screen resolution. (That was fixed by now in rolling release distros, right? I'm using Mint, which is still based on Ubuntu 24.04 because the release cycle really is that slow, although it's not quite as slow as some people think it is, like I'm pretty sure /v/ literally believes the packages are 5 years old in the latest release.) I also use OBS because I just don't record enough to care, but I assume just using gpu-screen-recorder wouldn't fix that issue.
Anyway I don't really mind changing the resolution because running the game in 16:10 only slightly fucks up the intended FOV, and I can say the ability to record at 1200p despite the bug is a demonstration of 1200p supremacy even though it's just dumb luck.

If you'll use mesa from kisak-ppa issue will most likely go away. If not you'll also need some recent libva but idk how would you get it without fucking up rest of the shit that's dependent on it. Or you can use gpu-screen-recorder from flatpak.

Technically it doesn't. gpu screen recorder bypasses flatpak restrictions and runs code outside the sandbox

>>
Also, just out of curiosity, could I have used ffmpeg to crop off that green bar? >>578648179
Or would ffmpeg on the same system just use the same fucked-up code that can't produce a non-multiple-of-16 height?
>>
>>578649609
That issue comes from old mesa + old ffmpeg when using vaapi (gpu) hevc. You can crop with ffmpeg if you use the cpu encoder. But you can also do that directly in the script that you used to convert the .mp4 file to .webm.

But as the other guy mentioned, you probably dont have this issue if you use the flatpak version of gpu screen recorder (or even obs) because flatpak comes with newer mesa and ffmpeg.
>>
>>578650330
But also note that if you record with av1 then the issue still exists, because thats a hardware issue on amd gpus that cant be fixed. It's only fixed in the rx 9000 series.
>>
>>578649082
Isn't that only true for drm backend? x11 and portal backends should run inside the sandbox just fine

>>
>>578650739
Wayland compositors also reduce the number of wayland protocols available in flatpaks, so gpu screen recorder also connects to wayland outside the sandbox so it can.. list monitors with their rotations and get the title of the focused window lol
>>
>>578650629
>x11
It uses drm backend on x11 on amd/intel as well, it's the only way to have performant monitor (not window) recording on amd/intel on x11. Nvidia has its own screen recording api on x11 (nvfbc) which normally only works on enterprise gpus, but some applications like nvidia shadowplay and steam has a secret key to make it work on all gpus. Gpu screen recorder uses that same secret key to make it work for everybody.

Fuck this.
By the way, question for when I inevitably end up using Wayland. It generally has no screen tearing out-of-the-box, right? Or did GAMERS™ demand screen tearing by default as an input delay placebo? Is it at least easy to disable tearing? I'm using
>Option "TearFree" "true"
in my Xorg config right now, which is nice because
1. some games implement vsync like shit and I get better frame timing by just capping frame rate (and still no tearing thanks to TearFree), and
2. I don't have to deal with the occasional game that doesn't respond to libstrangle/MangoHud vsync options for some fucking reason.

Well I'm just curious if anyone else happened to have anything. Here's the three most recent one as an example. They don't crash applications or cause shutdowns. Mostly happens at idle/casual desktop use but I have had a couple while gaming.
I only started tracking them in May when I slammed something into my desk hard enough to trigger a kernel panic.
Found out then at the time that rasdaemon from the AUR was bugged and wasn't logging anything.
But since I've replaced the CPU and motherboard and I'm still getting them, I'm at a loss. Memory isn't running any extreme settings and passes memtest86+ and OCCT. Already tried typical current idle and still got them.

I was seeing corrected errors on the CPU I had replaced before they changed to the supposed fatal errors...
Hopefully that thread actually goes somewhere, because I don't know where to begin trying to report it.
>>
>>578735625
Oh yeah and there was one piece of software I ran into which triggered legitimate System Fatal errors that populated those three addresses with values other than straight zeroes. So I guess it's probably safe if I just ignore those.

why when I uninstall a game on steam it doesn't delete the folder
>>
>>578936553
>doesn't delete the folder
Did it at least delete most of the files?
If you mean the folder where the game itself was stored, I believe Steam will delete only the files it actually installed, and then it will remove the top-level folder only if it's empty. This means games that dump configuration/save files in their install location will leave those files behind when they are uninstalled. Meanwhile, installing mods to a game's folder will also keep the folder from behind removed. I hope they never change this behavior because it means Steam is being nice and not just recursively deleting shit. Not that I store important documents in Steam games' folders or anything, but Steam presumably deleting on the files it actually "owns" is the a good thing in general.
If you mean prefixes and shader caches, I usually see those get removed on uninstall, but there may be some reason it doesn't always work.

I've completed my migration for Lutris to Faugus on a working PC, only leaving games with singificant play times for historical purposes. I actually like default Faugus's Adwaita theme more than Breeze GTK4 theming.

Yes, it does.
If it doesn't work on the flathub version, you just need to run Flatseal and go in the "Session Bus" > Subsection "Talk" > Press the "+" button and add this like in the text box:
> org.freedesktop.Flatpak
Then, when you'll restart Faugus and go to add a game, choose "Steam Game", your Steam account, and all your Steam games will be there to be added to Faugus.

It was originally a fork of GE for FFXI and some other d3d8 game if I remember right. Dawn is the anime fork and Mu just switched to Dawn's wine fork which is based on CachyOS's.

It looks like it is mostly updated multimedia dependencies, different ffmpeg configuration/codecs, and defaults to DXVK's d3d8 instead of Wine's. And whatever dsound stuff it just added.

For what it's worth, I actually don't mind AI for doc usage like this but the inconsistent and low-effort usually mean the author has no understanding over the actual changes and had to leave it to AI. By doing so, am I claiming that I've tracked down a copy of the EULA through a third party in order to read it? Just wondering. In reality I would absolutely not read the shit anyway. Gameplay works.
Frame rate is low because I didn't bother to change my LACT settings which have my GPU set to lowest clocks. Given that it runs this well in lowest-clocks mode, I don't think I'll have an issue if I actually let it use my GPU for real.
>>
My off-brand wired Xbox 360 controller also works, and I can just switch between keyboard/mouse and controller as I please without going into the settings, which is going to be very convenient. I'll be able to use a controller for driving and a keyboard/mouse for the occasional shooting segment.
Deadly Premonition was such a pain in the ass because it required choosing between keyboard/mouse and controller when starting the game, and driving with a keyboard sucked but I didn't want to use a controller for everything. (Driving with the controller also sucked, to be honest, just less so.)
The input hints also adjust to whatever inputs I'm using.
See previous post's note about garbage frame rate. It's almost certainly because I'm throttling the shit out of my outdated hardware, not because of Proton.
I'll probably get screenshots and videos with proper settings later, but in the meantime I'll be off the computer for a while.

Yikes. My custom fan curve might just be stupid, but whatever, that still means it was getting hotter than it usually does. I guess I don't play that many games with actual graphics.
It was weird though because the fan really went nuts at the last scene of benchmark mode. I ran benchmark mode a couple more times, the last time with basically all settings on highest except for AA on the middle setting, and the GPU didn't get that hot. So either I'm just getting inconsistent results, or that highest AA setting is really brutal.

I mean, all I did with the Steam version was download it, enable MangoHud in the launch options, and run it (with Steam set to use Valve's Proton 11 by default). add no_display to your MangoHud.conf (located in ~/.config/MangoHud).

>>579269982
thanks, does the fps limiter work when the hud is hidden?

I tested around and yes it works

>RoR2
Such a fun game ruined by Gearbox.
I 'unlocked' the Survivors of the Void DLC and immediately disabled it after I got all the unlocks and achievements, and that was still mostly developed by Hopoo. I would not doubt vibecoding was used for the later patches and DLC.

Here's your average public lobby CS2 "player". How is this shit still top1 in Steam charts? People really like to pay competitive mode with shit like this?

Had it for years in deathmatch mode.

Yeah. You could verify by setting two fps values (like fps_limit=120,60) and switching between them.

Isn't vtuber setup just a readily available program that hooks to a camera these days? Without going into custom models.

I'm slowly migrating my games from Lutris to Faugus. I've decided to migrate all games that have less than 2 hours of playtime, other games will stay on Lutris (yeah, I could've moved playtimes from Lutris as well, but that's too much of a hassle since it requires manual config editing for every game).
I was researching setting up a runtime verison with umu variables, but turns out you can't make umu to download and run "scout-on-soldier" runtime which would make sense for games like Undertale/Deltarune. Otherwise, it's completely useless.
>>
>>579303083
What does Faugus do better than Lutris to be worth the hassle?
>>
>>579303398
nta but it's way simpler and not bloated with 1000s of obsolete settings.

I don't know each launcher's game configuration format, but you could probably do it with a script. Of course, that's not worth it unless you think writing scripts to edit files is fun.
>>
>>579307989
Game needs to have reflex or antilag.
>>
>>579303486
That's a pretty fair reason.
I have a really soft spot for Lutris for making some underground shit run but always down to try new stuff

Oh my God, I hate KDE developers so much.
Back in 2024, Spectacle stopped opening the GUI after taking screenshots with modifiers+print screen.
I finally realized they probably just slapped the -b flag on those commands. Guess I have to disable all the default shortcuts and apply them to custom spectacle commands to get the old behavior on those modes back!

Finally, a clearly discernible nipple.
Sorry for censoring it but I don't want a mandatory vacation from /lgg/, and the screenshot was already ruined anyway by the game informing me that Carla's warm pussy has upgraded Lucas's mental state from overwrought to depressed.

I took that other one because the "I love you" struck me as pretty funny in context (or lack thereof), but I had decided it wasn't worth posting because I already complained about the stupidity of this suddenly-having-already-happened-offscreen romance.

It seems the recent edits to my automatic screenshot-cropping script have made it go insane and start cutting off part of the overlay but only sometimes. I wasn't having an issue before because I had the game set to 16:9.
Oh well.
>>579317280
lol... I was going to mention that, but there's so much stupid shit happening. When this guy first appeared, I think I overestimated how much of the game was left. It was basically over already.
>>
>>579318139
And the boss fight was just some button mashing and then one kamehameha QTE, and he fucking exploded. I thought he was going to regenerate or something, but nope. Died like a bitch.

Then other bad guy shows up and... I think I avoided another fight against him by succeeding at a QTE that just made Carla shoot him. I suppose any possible boss fight is going to be anti-climactic in a QTE-based game that already blew its load on a scene like >>579252853 >>579253091 but lol.
I looked it up and there are a few ways this could go down. I think I could have fought >>579318139 earlier too.

I'm pretty sure I'm at the end of the game here, and I'm pretty sure I've gotten the good ending by not fucking up the boss fights. I wanted the good ending to be the last one I see (and also the last achievement I unlock), so I closed the game instead of doing the final thing here. And since I'm going back for bad endings anyway, I'm also going to do some optional fuck-ups I missed, like... ah, let's bring up that achievements list...
>Kill Lucas mixing pills and alcohol
oh shit lol.
>>
>>579319110
I think that "Game Executable" mega.nz link is the original game, not a compiled source port. (It's under the heading "Resources" along with another link to the debug symbols which the preceding text identifies as having been used for reverse engineering.) If so, then it's obviously for legal reasons that they don't just host the file. But even linking to it seems pretty stupid.
Anyway, it also says "work in progress" and everything in the README is about contributing, so I doubt it's playable yet.
