>>578426743the old DOSggerfall is about as clunky as DOS games get. the joke is that "daggerfall was released very early in development". its not a joke tho lol.now that said i rly liked the DOS version when i was a kid, because it was freeware when MW got released, and my PC couldnt run MW. the dungeons are sick if you like hardcore crawling. there rly hasnt been anything thats ever even tried to capture the same scope of what DF was trying to do. its massive to an extent youre probably not aware vidya can even bethe unity port is a whole other beast. its got far too many QoL options to even list, a similar amount of bugfixes, a nice launcher that natively handles mods and its various options, and a pretty active mod scene. if you kit it out with a bunch of mods, its probably the best sandbox RPG that exists. full stop. certainly the biggest.but its enjoyment ime hinges really heavily on if you like dungeon crawling and are able to "fill in" some gaps with your imagination. theres a "smaller dungeons" mode, for that very reason, but those smaller dungeons are still probably 5x bigger than the biggest skyrim dungeons. and the MQ dungeons are unchanged regardless. so if you wanna actually beat it, be prepared for multiple hr long crawls.its def not for the faint of heart. i think its sick tho. its so fucking fun. even simple stupid shit, like how diseases work,or how the character creation screen works, is vastly superior to any other TES games iteration. its radiant quest design is somehow more engaging than skyrims, despite skyrim billing that as a selling point on releaseget the base DOS game from UESP, get the newest unity version, point the unity launcher to the DOS install, then get quest pack 1 for a mod. then just try it. youll prolly die in the first dungeon but thats kinda the point lol. save early, save often. its still a 90s CRPG

Okay I keep getting conflicting information from guides on this: do I use LOOT to sort my load order or not? I keep hearing it's outdated or doesnt work well for anything past fucking Oblivion and to use xEdit to solve every single conflict via patches instead, but I also see people still mentioning using it casually in modsing discussions. I'm somehow five hours into Daggerfall (thanks for answering my questions earlier, gang) and I've managed to ingratiate myself with the mage guild, done some miscellaneous stuff around a couple of towns in Daggerfall province, and organically discovered that I can get away with crime by spamming steal on something in a shop where guards can't path to me until it finally succeeds and then recalling away without interacting with anyone. I don't know how the shopkeeper managed to fit a horse and cart into a cabinet but they're mine now, along with a new weapon and some fancier threads.

If you want a good experience out of these you're going to have to pay for a good model like claude fable and learn how to set shit up to get the most out of it and it can potentially get expensive. A lot of people like to shit on AI roleplay, but that's often because they don't know how to work with ai to get good results out of them and that's not always easy. You'll probably want to edit the prompts in the settings and finetune what models handle what. Like have a cheap model like deepseek handle most characters and summaries of events going on behind the scenes, while some characters have an override setup so that they use claude instead. There are people on reddit I've seen who posted their prompts where they've gotten the llms to write in the style of Cormac Mc Carthy in Skyrim for example. Be creative and experiment with it. If you have questions, I'm usually keeping tabs on these threads and I like to fuck around with AI a lot. Just beware though, some people here get majorly buttmad at the mention of ai and one will try to get you banned like a teachers pet faggot.What I really like about it is having the AI play my own character, watching her develop throughout the playthrough, and reading her journals as she descends into madness and evil. My Skyrim character feels almost like my pet at this point, like a tomodachi or something. Ironic that a 15 year old game would be one of the only ways to glimpse the future of what a game can be.

I enjoy watching a story play out and seeing what sorts of things I can get it to do. For instance, I have a character that's a vampire. The ai can be context aware, so it knows what time it is and what my character looks like, etc. There's also one ai plugin that implements a rumor system, so ai characters might hear from another the rumor that the dragonborn is a vampire. One of my favorite things was hiring a companion, and while I play through the game I see if they start to get suspicious and figure out my character. Then I watch my character manipulate them and dispell their suspicions. I can edit the bio of a character to emphasize that they passionately hate vampires and will attack them on sight, and the ai can indeed make npcs hostile based on things like this. That's the sort of thing that I find interesting about this and hope to one day see a proper game made that can implement mechanics like this with an llm and not be shit.
