Victoria Rules edition.

>Life is Strange
(LiS) - Don’t Nod’s teenage trauma simulator set in Arcadia Bay. Max Caulfield, shy photography nerd and disaster lesbian-in-waiting, gets rewind powers after reuniting with Chloe Price, her blue-haired best friend and emotional grenade. Storms, grief, desire, and one choice fandom will argue about forever.

>Before the Storm
(BtS) - Deck Nine’s Chloe prequel. No time powers, just grief, rage, and Rachel Amber entering Chloe’s life like a lit match. Theatre kid drama, flannel feelings, and two girls staring hard enough to warp weather.

>Life is Strange 2
(LiS2) - Don’t Nod’s road-trip sequel following Sean and Daniel Diaz after tragedy forces them to flee across America. As Daniel’s powers grow, Sean must guide him while facing racism, grief, poverty, state violence, and life on the run.

>True Colors
(TC) - Deck Nine’s mountain-town feelings bomb. Alex Chen reaches Haven Springs, uncovers grief, secrets, corporate rot, and the curse of feeling everyone else at full volume. Bisexual lighting, Steph Gingrich, rooftop yearning, excellent jackets.

>Double Exposure
(DE) - Max returns, older, sadder, and allergic to a normal semester. At Caledon, Safi is murdered and Max starts shifting timelines. Mystery, academic lesbians, timeline nonsense, and Max as reality’s chew toy.

>Reunion
Max and Chloe back together, because soulmates make causality file complaints. Rewind returns, Caledon remains cursed, and the series circles back to them. Closure, pain, gay nonsense, and two women finding each other however hard reality tries to split the bill.

>Lost Records: Bloom & Rage
(LR) - Don’t Nod’s spiritual cousin, split between 1995 and 2022. Swann, Nora, Autumn, and Kat make a band, a pact, lose each other, and drag VHS secrets into adulthood. Riot grrrl vibes, forest weirdness, charged friendships, past waiting in the trees.

Other franchise and related games discussion welcome!

Nah, still not it. The Reunion description is still full of blatant pricefield circlejerking. Change it to genuine confusion over why they shoved that first-game baggage back onto Max right when she finally started living a happy life, and then we’ll consider bumping it.

Max kinda pissed me off in the comic with her commitment to being miserable in the first half.
>>
>>578452406
It will. I've noticed the tension building up across the entire fandom over the last few weeks. It's not just because of the numbers they constantly post on Plebbit, but simply because more and more people are putting them in their place. They've had multiple epic meltdowns over there in just the last few days

DEfags are just as miserable, pretending the corporate backed fanfiction churned out by a studio that made their subservience to SE a goal and shat out forgettable stories and a sequel the original authors never wanted. The fandom was not built to last this long, and to have multiple games that divied the audience each time they relased. If LiS was a single game with no franchise, you wouldn't be here circlejerking about shipping wars

Well, they weren't the ones throwing massive meltdowns this week over someone else's fanart, hunting down comments in unrelated threads to swarm them, and stalking the commenters across other social media platforms. Now that is peak miserable behavior, pissfag, and it makes me wonder what triggered such a pathetic coping mechanism?

>>578549047
is there really any other fandom that had fanfic supplant the original series though? life is strange is sort of a musty basement, perfect for a mold colony to grow
>>
>>578548164
Sadly, yes. When I first heard the word 'Pricefield' right after the first game came out, it was already clear that the franchise was doomed. Wherever insane shippers show up, it always ends badly. I just didn't expect this agony to drag on for this long. And now that the general crowd has cleared out, only the most completely unhinged freaks are left in their fandom. That's exactly why we get shit like what happened on Plebbit this week, which that other anon was talking about.
>>
>>578550102
If you're very anal about the definition of fanfiction, then literally any piece of media that had different authors and collaborators continue the series "officially" can be considered. Off the top of my head, the Stargate franchise would be a good example imo.

Go to google books, and then search for Out of Focus, and you can read the first three chapters of the book. And another neat little thing is that if you search for words you can find text from the book. Must be a bug. But I have found it some stuff. Chloe seems to have a girl who is interested in her, but she can only think of Max. So Chloe more loyal than Max. Checks out.
>>

You talk about these "two anons" so often that it's either one of two things: you actually suffer from a Fregoli delusion, or just two guys turned out to be capable of completely steamrolling and terrorizing the entire multi-million strong army of Pricefield shippers. Honestly, I don't even know which of these options is the least pathetic for you.

>Chloe seems to have a girl who is interested in her, but she can only think of Max. So Chloe more loyal than Max.

There was some past anon who claimed the entire Out of Focus book was like planned alongside DE's development, but its story got rewritten and changed every time DE was. And one of those changes was how at the start, this book had Chloe have a full new romance interest character that was supposed to end in a vague non relationship because SE wanted to keep things open, and the final book relase would have been far more safer than this

why would I? just like that anon above, I can't fucking wait for the tv show to drop just to watch the shattered remains of pricefield shippers' asses blast off into orbit, lmao
>>
>when the franchise was literally butchered just to pander to them
The franchise was butchered the moment Square Enix thought bringing back Max would have made them shitload of money, justify all their poor planning bad writing, disregard of the original and predatory monetization tactics.
>>
>>578613262
Nah, it was butchered the moment they released BtS, which the pissfags hyped up, and then LiS2, which made them throw a tantrum. That was the clear signal for SE to see exactly what kind of direction they should drag this franchise into. You already know how it ended from there
>>
>>578613812
nah it was butchered the moment Dontnod decided they wanted to do anthology games and none of them drew the interest of LiS1
>>
>>578613262
Bringing back Max was a good idea, it was the execution that was very flawed. And we will never know what really happened between SE and D9
>>
>>578555438
Not a single person from D9 liked the post about the former owners starting a new company. I really think a lot of former D9 people are very bitter about their time there
>>
>>578619143
I've always found that debate a bit strange, because it's not like they wouldn't have been in constant contact and working together. And often the simplest explanation is the right one: their ambitions outgrew the time they had, combined with a lack of clear direction
>>
>>578619143
>Bringing back Max was a good idea
If you are desperate because you dont believe a strong anthology game could work and need to use nostalgia to prop sales
>>
>>578619776
Go read the Glassdoor reviews, both Mark and Jeff were indicated as the reason why management sucked ass
>>
>>578626639
Everyone, us and SE, thought Max would sell. To be honest, I still have problems understanding why DE sold so poorly. Most people will never engage with drama online, so it should have sold more despite the 50 or so people going insane
>>
>>578633351
>67.30%
A lot of casual gamers will avoid games that are mixed
>>
>>578633351
Sequel to a then-nine year old game in a genre that stopped being popular pre-covid? And it also dropped the main game mechanic from the first game? Yeah, weird that it didn't do huge numbers. The exact type of game that's begging for an $80 deluxe edition.
>>
>>578633351
Times simply changed and people moved on. It would've sold more if it was released years ago.
>>
>>578634757
A lot of people also felt very strongly about the other characters and the setting. Chloe, Kate, Victoria, Warren, and Arcadia Bay itself. They should have gone back to that instead of trying to start all over again. I honestly think a lot of people would have loved to explore a rebuilt Arcadia Bay and see all those places and characters again. Writing this now, it seems like the obvious move, but what do I know?
>>
>>578635554
Impossible to say. But I would have liked that more
>>
>>578633351
It got butchered by a lot of Streamers and YouTubers. It can't have helped sales.

It wasn't a good game. So it didn't sell. It's not that complicated
>>
I'm kind of surprised that not a single gaming site has written about Deck Nine going under. There’s definitely a story to be told there
>>
>>578642092
Just another sign that LiS isn't mainstream anymore
>>
>>578619143
>Bringing back Max was a good idea, it was the execution that was very flawed.
>>578623692
It obviously was, since the stats show they managed to attract both old and new players in equal measure. The real problem is that in absolute terms, the player count was so abysmally low it didn't even cover the budget. This is the direct result of SE's pure incompetence. First, they completely failed to gauge the market demand for a game like this in '24. Then, they demanded endless rewrites by constantly changing writers, which obviously killed the quality. And finally, they butchered it into two separate games, leaving DE with a complete lack of any real climax or ending
>>
>>578642092
Maybe once everything is official, but they're pretending to work on a game that will totally come out still.
>>
>>578633351
Both you and SE should have listened to us here. We literally said back then that based on current trends, it would sell twice as badly as TC. And obviously, no amount of shipping drama has any real impact on that

>>578633981
Then why aren't they snapping up Reunion? If I remember correctly, its user rating is second only to the first game, or something like that

>>578640947
How many of those videos have you actually seen? Like, from actually influential creators with a massive reach?
>>
>>578648846
Different groups are buying Double Exposure and Reunion. Which is another sign that the franchise is basically dead
>>
>>578646559
An interesting question is why the remasters sold so well despite being horribly made. Were none of those people interested in Double Exposure? And now, with the TV show coming, how many people will buy Life is Strange and then go on to play the other games? There is a pretty clear quality gap between the original and the rest of the series
>>
>>578655686
I think the big reason the remasters sold as well as they did is because the originals stopped going on sale, so it is often cheaper to buy the remasters.
>>
>>578655686
If Double Exposure came out at the same time as the TV show there is a good chance that it would have sold more
>>
>>578656150
They also sold both remasters together with TC for a very reasonable price when TC came out
>>
>>578655686
It came out when an LiS game was still fresh in the public's mind. TC came out a few months back. Actual good synergy on their part because new people came in and TC was their first game. If DE and RE came out fresh off the heels of LiS 2 and/or the show, it definitely would've sold more. Will the show spur people to the buy the games? Maybe, maybe not. I doubt Amazon's subscribers even play games that aren't readily available on their phones. Another synergy blunder on their parts for releasing the collection way before the show.
>>
>>578648846
>How many of those videos have you actually seen? Like, from actually influential creators with a massive reach?
Depends on what you mean of influential creators and what you consider a massive reach. I know a creator, Jenn, played DE and wasn't enthusiastic by the time of EP5 and said the game left her confused and not really enthusiastic about a sequel. She sits around 900k subs but idk if that is considered an influential creator
>>
>>578653447
just further proves what a pointless act of idiocy the complete U-turn in Reunion was. given the already dwindling and fractured fanbase, instead of trying to merge one audience with the other, they tried to replace one with another. and as it turned out, they replaced the larger one with a smaller one

>>578657275
what's so mind-boggling - they have absolutely nothing ready for the tv show's release. when DE was in development, they didn't know about the show yet, but they definitely knew by the time Reunion came around. they should have at least timed its release to match the show. that was literally their only shot at selling this game somehow
>>
>>578659790
>they replaced the larger one
There's no larger audience if your next game is a sequel to a game that was crifically panned and as divise as DE was. Of course SE is spineless, but there's no concrete proof DE2 would have been far better than Reunion
>>
>>578659790
I guess the simplest explanation is that Square Enix was done with the whole thing and just wanted to recover some of its losses. But anyone with half a brain could see that they potentially stand to make much more from the TV show. If they're lucky, it could even revive the entire franchise. At this point, it seems all but confirmed that the show is intended to run for multiple seasons. It's incredibly frustrating to think that all of that potential could simply be wasted
>>
>>578660936
I also think they might actually try to do something with Double Exposure and Reunion. Probably more of an adaptation than a proper retelling, but I imagine Square Enix would want them to cover all the games
>>
>>578660284
Ah, the schizo is back with his hypothetical scenarios as arguments. Too bad the fact that the player bases of both games overlap by less than 50%, and the engagement metrics with promo materials across all platforms are either equal or leaning in RE's favor, completely debunks your pathetic coping
>>
>>578660936
I guess they might still try and do something at some point
>>
>>578658064
Synergy might have given them more sales, but DE's problems were more than just bad marketing. It's not a hidden gem. Even the people who liked it describe it as a stumble and wasted opportunity. Even if they matched TC's sales, it would have been a loss at double the budget. I'm not convinced you can save DE without major rewrites.
>>
>>578663728
DE's downfall is majorly due to the genre dying out by the time of its release, regardless of its content. It could be the holy grail and apogee of the series but it would still sell like it did. It was also clearly meant to be a two-parter with the latter part resolving the supposed stumbles and wasted plotlines before the retooling. LiS 1 was Act 1 with DE as Act 2 with all the tropey breakups and plot contrivances before being neatly resolved by Act 3 which Reunion completely rugpulled.
>>
>>578664760
I have no idea. But based on what the mod people found it didn’t seem like some sort of epic final game
>>
>>578665943
Obviously not final overall but more the current arc of a story/saga. People are so quick to decry something that's in front of them instead of thinking of the bigger picture. Everything was set up in DE for a payoff in the next one but it never came into fruition because of what happened.
>>
>>578664760
>LiS 1 was Act 1 with DE as Act 2
LiS was a single book, and DE is the unofficial sequel made by a bad writer capitalizing on nostalgia, to believe this was some sort of big plan is just being stupid

While it's nicer to respect the request, unless you're reposting paywalled work, I don't think it's that bad. The real problem is if you don't give the artist proper credit.

That said, >>578678161 is right, you're going to jail.

That’s obvious. If it came out back when BtS was released, it would have sold just like BtS. If it came out when TC dropped, it would have sold like TC, and so on

What's this tv show have to do with anything
>>
>>578718193
Dispatch can't be compared with Life is Strange
>>
>>578700393
Probably true, and that's just sad
>>
So in other words the TV show will come and last for several seasons and Square Enix will do nothing about it.

I thought Bethesda was good at wasting opportunities, but Square Enix seems determined to waste every single opportunity they get
>>
>>578731409
Basically yes
>>
>>578731409
Might not last for more than one season
>>
The more I see of the cast the more I think this will be reduced to some sort of romatic drama
>>
>>578718193
The stunt casting played a big part in Dispatch going viral, I don't think you can consider it a typical case at all.

Maybe D9 should have hired Valkyrae to voice Safi or something.
>>
>>578607675
But why?
What joy is in that?
>>
>>578739368
The game has very few choices and is more like a movie where you pick your girlfriend. It is not a very good example
>>
>>578739870
They are suffering from mental illness.
>>
>>578739870
what joy is there in watching people who spent 10 years telling everyone else they're the only ones who are right take L after L? well, if I have to explain that to you, then...
>>
>>578744481
It literally ended in Pricefield forever. Where is victory here
>>
>>578745342
that's not how it ended. and it certainly didn't happen the way they wanted it to. that is exactly why they aren't in a celebratory mood, and why we're seeing all that massive coping on plebbit and other platforms that was mentioned earlier in the thread
>>
>>578731409
Several seasons. Where does this claim come from?
>>
lis tv show looks very cheaply made and the casting is horrendous, dare i say the chloe girl is actually ugly lol
>>
>>578752181
The fact that they're filming it in Canada is all you need to know.
>>
>>578752181
Cheap we have no way of knowing. But some of the casting choices are weird. Victoria does not even have blond hair
>>
Zachary Andrews, the guy who was mocap director on The Expanse game and Reunion, wrote an original Pricefield scene

https://www.zacharymandrews.com/writing-samples/partners-in-time-01.pdf
>>
>>578757181
Well, that actually explains why Reunion turned out to be such low-quality garbage
>>
>>578757181
Based. This explains why he was so extremely negative about DE
>>
>>578761767
because he's a chlorefag?
>>
>>578752181
Everyone in it is hideous, except maybe for the girls playing Victoria and Kate. But yeah, the two main leads are a total disaster.
>>
>>578750240
A producer said something vague about plans for future seasons, nothing specific.
>>
>>578761767
What he said about DE?
>>
>>578766918
He whined about the breakup on jeet Adnan's podcast
>>
>>578766918
He also said that the dialog of DE was not Life is Strange, and he said it with so much venom
>>
>>578761767
A lot of the former D9 people seem to be mortal enemies. Must have been a hard place to work
>>
>>578757883
It turned out low-quality because this clown, just like Zimmerman, was strictly tier-two even within D9 when it came to their respective fields.
>>
>>578776157
Who wasn't at D9
>>
>>578777446
The DE writers were so bad that they were in their own category
>>
>>578782242
>way better written
They are on the same level of mediocrity, lets not kid ourselves
>>
>>578777446
Well, at the very least, the dialogues in DE are way better written, and the mocap is miles ahead of Reunion
>>
>>578780024

>>
>>578793814
Adnan was seething so hard over that line, kek
>>
>>578775703
Yeah, it's crazy how much of what you read about D9 sounds pretty miserable.
>>
>>578757883
See? Even the graphomaniac inside him woke up. Guess his own piece of shit Slopunion failed to satisfy his shiptard heart.
>>
Is it wrong to goon to LiS porn? So much if it so quality.
>>
>>578817301
Part of the reason I even picked up LiS S1 back in the day was because of the porn, and coomer discussions on /v/. I dare say the game wouldn't be as popular if it hadn't been for its enormous potential for erotic content.

Plenty of people did. Which is hilarious, because there's this one batshit insane shipper lurking around here who loves to accuse anyone who enjoys games other than LiS1 of doing so solely for the goonery
>>
>>578817301
No but there's always waifus you choose not to jerk off to mainly Alyssa, Claire, Mac
>>
>>578817301

>>
>>578794221
Loads of lines like that. You could tell the writing team had issues with white people and would have preferred a game without Max
>>
>>578817301
Nicefield is one of the very few good NSFW artists for LiS, the rest is OoC shit
>>
>>578839173
There are some good comics here and there. But the best ones makes other stuff too

The writing team had very little experience in writing and seem to have leaned heavily on personal experience and this type of corporate approved diversity type of thing. But I don't think they had anything against white people. They were just a bit under qualified for the task. Which is a hiring problem
>>
>>578845328
>The writing team had very little experience in writing
Pretty much every one of them had at least one LiS game under their belt. And some of them had even worked on several
>>
>>578846983
That count little to nothing if you are in a company as badly managed as D9 and SE breathing down your neck
>>
>>578847247

>>578839173
There are a few other good ones, but the game has been out long enough, and without a good sequel, that artists were bound to fall into either doing their own thing or memeing.
