>What the heck is this
/indie/ is the general for all indie games, such as Age of Decadence, A Hat in Time, Axiom Verge, Baba Is You, Battle Brothers, Battlerite, Card City Nights 2, Cave Story, CrossCode, Cultist Simulator, Darkwood, DashBored, Dead Cells, The Desolate Hope, Disco Elysium, Environmental Station Alpha, FTL, Guacamelee!, Hollow Knight, Knytt, LISA, Lobotomy Corp, Machinarium, Middens, Monolith, Monster Train, Noita, OFF, OneShot, Rimworld, Rain World, Slap City, Slay the Spire, Starsector, Subnautica, Sunless Skies, Tooth and Tail, Underrail, VA-11 HALL-A, Yume Nikki, etc., as well as other games that just don't fit in any other general such as Atelier, Pillars of Eternity, Rayman, and Valkyria Chronicles. /jrpg/ is welcome. Idle games are cool too.

Mobile or consoles, Flash or Unity, freeware or early access. This place is a home for the indie game community and indie and obscure games that don't have a home. So be free to talk and share all your hidden gems, forgotten games and starving devs here.

>Can I talk about games that already have a general?
We mostly discuss games that are not popular enough for their own threads, however, all indie games are allowed. So talk about them if you want, but don't overdo it since you already have other generals for that.

Recent games I've tried:

>Exark
A city builder skinned single player backpack battles-like. it's okay. Decent variety and allegedly more content to be added past 1.0. Needs an indicator if something can't be rotated. Could use daily/weekly/custom runs.

>Lootbound
Not really that much of a backpack battles-like. For one it's turn based. You get a tiny selection of 2 items after every fight with no reroll. Most noncombat nodes involve random chance so your momentum is very swingy where even if you played safe every time and chose the lowest tier reward you can still get nothing. The game gives you a limited number of nudges but the nudges themselves are random. You also only control your main dude. your posse is ai controlled. So really making it turn based adds almost nothing to the game.

Sorry, I've been looking into playing some modded GTAIV. Though, last night, I took a trip back to 1997. Abandonware. It's called Enemy Nations and it feels like Transportation Tycoon mixed with Command & Conquer. The little intro video proclaims that humans mastered interstellar flight on September 26th, 2020. We find that there's a good amount of alien races out there. So many races that the last uninhabited planet had been found over 1000 years prior. Except we're stubborn and found one after a while. A bunch of the other spacefaring races blockade us and war breaks out. After some time a compromise is announced. Each race will send in their own colony ship with basic supplies and it's an arms race to win the planet. You've been chosen lead the expedition for Earth and that's where the training grounds help you get your wits about you. Kinda. I went looking for the manual because I couldn't figure out how to rotate buildings. Ctrl-RMB. Nice little thing I wish I'd known about all these years.

The music is pretty neato as well. The thing is open source now and runs on modern hardware "out of the box" as it were. 12 races, all having "over 10" racial mods according to the manual. What those mods are is not listed in the manual. All you get is a description of the race and you're meant to infer from there. Humans are the baseline though.

Shivs seems pretty consistent since you can make them work either with shiv specific buffs or broader storm cards like the gold axe. Idk if it was obvious from my pic but that deck went off using Rush and Nightmare to make tons of copies to hopefuflly freecast with Bullet Time. Nightmare used on a free Bullet Time card makes the copies free on the next turn, so Nightmare + Bullet Time seem really good together because of these different possible timings. I would have liked to get the deck thinner but I got kind of screwed by the shop/fire locations this run and had to keep going for healing.

How is it different from the character in a 3rd person or 1st person or 2d game?
You push forward, it goes forward.
You hold jump, it goes up.
You stop holding jump, it goes down.
...
It even has crutches like autopilot and the landing cam which automatically orient you toward the ground.

Because you need to get a few missions in before you can build additional trucks and you only start with two. It starts struggling when you've got several things to move around and there's not enough hands.

Yes. There are a few "global" resources that aren't handled, gas, power, people and food. Otherwise, the trucks move it. Iron and coal from their respective mines to the smeltery for steel. Steel to new buildings and it can't be built until the stuff is there. Coal to the powerplant. Oil to the refinery. Better to keep things close so you don't have miles and miles to move something, but sometimes it can't be helped. Gas is important, as without it you can't build roads AND your vehicles get a hefty movement penalty. Roads improve speed of all units, and they'll path to roads to make them faster if possible. The rocket you land with counts as a starter warehouse/apartment/office/generator and in a pinch will rebuild anything super critical if you lose your last, say, crane and thus can't build.

I always wonder how people play the late game. For happiness maxxxing, replacing all workers with bots seems like the winning move, and there are some fun stuff around bots, like their own needs.

But them, if beavers are not working and the player only cared for happiness, they could just reduce the beaver population to a small number and the whole society built around sustaining beavers its now kinda pointless. All the buffs from happiness also useless if they are not working. It becomes kinda of a dystopia.

The thing that will always make me hate games like Slay the Spire is it's possible to get 5 fucking runs in a row where you don't get a single block card, then are forced to fight a boss that hits for half your hp every other turn.
Unwinnable runs shouldn't be a thing. It means your game is half-assed and missing features.

If variance isn't able to swing so low that it can crater a run, why have it be a roguelike at all? Mitigating the chance of those failstates is part of the system mastery, but if it reduces to pure execution then it undermines the entire mechanical structure.

I believe the opposite. If it's impossible to outskill every failstate and be forced to lose due to RNG alone, THAT undermines the structure and turns the game into simple gambling.

Any retard can beat A10 in STS2 by just playing 1000 games until they get lucky and coast to victory. The best players should be able to win those same 1000 games.

Are there Songs of Syx threads anywhere?

This game is insane. Had it come out during the DF hype phase early last decade, absolutely everyone would be talking about it. But now it seems to have largely flown under the radar?

A colony/city builder game akin to DF/RW or what have you... except you don't get FPS death at hundreds of colonists, it runs buttery smooth into tens of thousands. This is a unique technical achievement and the pathfinding doesn't have any weird compromises to make the immense scale possible, just good optimization. Also battles with massive armies, plus somewhat undercooked grand strategy elements outside the core city building loop.

Piracy doesn't have this problem. The dev also has a great attitude towards it. He might earn your money with that attitude alone.

Plus, the demo is also free and it's the full game. Just a few major updates behind.
>>
>>578580794

>>
Ever notice how movie tie-in games basically don't exist anymore?
>>
>>578585643
Because games are the bigger business now. Instead you get tie-in movies for popular game franchises
>>
>>578579991
it used to have a thread on /vst/ up all the time, you know, like a general, but last time I checked, there wasn't one. I guess anons grew tired of the game. It probably doesn't help that the dev made the game more autistic and more of a slog with each update.

The game is good at the first glance, but I always grow bored somewhere around 1k pop. I never went much longer past that. I think the music is the best part.
>>
>>578586549
It's pleasantly autistic but how it is a slog now compared to how it was? Just tighter happiness/loyalty per population curve? Were any current major mechanics missing from older versions?
I don't have baggage from previous versions twisting my judgement and expectations, so that just sounds like a skill issue from my POV.

Also how can you stop a thousand? Just build a cozy little hamlet in one corner of the map and lose interest? That's not enough people to do anything cool, I like to keep hundreds of oddjobbers for getting shit done.
I just recently started playing and already have multiple different cities past a several thousand. So many things I want to try, so little time. This thing is like crack. Even my first city with no title bonuses went past 10k in less than 30 years, and that's after I completely stopped taking migrants in at 8k with no childcare services to speak of. Damn cretonians just keep breeding faster than you can react to. Now I'm trying to play slower and artificially limit my growth by controlling when and how many migrants I let in, mostly to get more opportunities to fight lower tier raiders.
>>

Development cycles for games are too long to try and align years in advance. Back when you could shit out a PS2 game in 10 months it was a lot easier, now we're a month away from there being teenagers born after GTAV came out.
>>
>>578588586
I really didn't play that much of this game, even on older versions, but there was a time where you didn't need clay for science and only had one type of science point and things like that. You didn't need to worry about warehouse ranges and pick orders. Raising armies was too troublesome, but mercs were cheaper, so players could just hire them to experience combat, then the dev nerfed the shit out of it by making them too expensive, because it was not the intended way on his vision.

>Also how can you stop a thousand?
I always planned to go far, but I simply get bored of it. By the time I get to 1k, I had stable food production, science production, toilets for everyone, janitors, guards, some medicine, all the basics set up and excess of goods of whatever the races I have on my city are skilled at, that I use for trade. Also, enough fighters to keep raiders away, but I end up never using them for real fighting. By that point, I feel like there isn’t many new and fun things that I can do, just more of the same, and some logistics of the city, like managing warehouses and food stalls, are becoming a pain in the ass. Its not enough population sustain war and go full conqueror and the city building gets stale.

Putrid dogshit run that only worked cuz of low Ascension and broken potions lmao. It was a classic episode of trying to brute force a deck archetype as hard as possible and the game refusing to comply. I spent 1000+ gold and visited like 3 shops to no avail.

Also, I think the dev may have changed the breeding mechanics. Back when I played, even building nurseries, it took so damm long to get new citizens I just gave up and started taking immigrants.

Because creating a Spore that actually lives up to its potential would be a massive undertaking that the vast majority of indie studios simply don't have the manpower (or funding) to achieve, at least without a decade+ of devtime.
And making a slimmed-down arcadey version that's actually feasible to make, well, why would anyone play that instead of the Spore we got now?

Is Darkest Dungeon the type of game where you get to mid-game and from that point onwards it's more about rolling the dice over and over for 10 to 20 hours, allowing the game a chance to meme the player with unlucky RNG? I disliked that about Xcom 2 and Iratus, even though I understand the purpose of it.
>>
>>578635163

darkest dungeon is like that right from the start
also i don't recall Xcom 2 being PITA
>>
>>578632612
eh
>>
>>578635163
I don't remember Iratus being that bad rng wise, just retarded unbalanced, with some units completely mogging others and/or being mandatory in teams comps.
>>
>>578635163
Darkest dungeon gets less rng dependent the further you go because you get stronger abilities and better equipment.

>>578635628

>>578637235
It's not about the RNG in itself, it's more about not having stuff to unlock and your characters and their equipment being mostly set in stone, the good or best decisions in combat become too quick and easy to figure out, so it's just a slog to keep playing the game. During the second half of the game, roughly speaking, things only get "exciting" when the game throws some bullshit at the player or if the player makes a significant mistake, but that's not really exciting, just annoying or infuriating. To summarize, the first half is the player trying to overcome the game and the second half is the game trying to overcome the player, but the only way it can achieve that is through critical hits, evasion rolls, nasty enemy team compositions and things of the same nature and you have to go through 10 to 20 hours of that when it could've been trimmed by half. That is what I want to know about Darkest Dungeon. Two other games that are somewhat similar which doesn't overstay its welcome are Aria Chronicles and Our Adventurer Guild.
>>578637235
Yeah Iratus balance really sucks, which is a shame as I was looking forward to playing with the fear damage units but I realized most units, be it fear damage or HP damage, are quite bad. I beat the game with 2 of the DLC units, the horseman creature, which seemed kinda pay-to-win.

No, the first half is an rng fest. Due to a bunch of hidden mechanics, the deck is mathematically stacked against you at the start. The flat bonuses everyone receives disproportionately benefit the enemies in the early game and the player in the late game.

Baba Is You is my favorite game of all time, finally dethroning Majora's Mask after all these dman years, and I like this mod for it even more:
Reminder that the Nimi's Garden mod exists for Baba Is You and you should 1000% play it if you adored Baba. Same Level/Blossom/Bonus count as basegame, ie 231/12/3.

You should play it even if it is the one and only video game mod you ever play in your -life-.
1.1:1 Quality to the basegame
1.1:1 Difficulty
It's seriously as if Hempuli himself made Baba Is You 2. The thought of my fellow Baba chads overlooking this diamond pains me. Play it.
Disco Divertimento Duo is my favorite level -ever- between both games. I hit hitherto unforseen dopamine levels playing that beaut.

Playing anything lately? Me:
>Sephiria - fun so far, tougher than I was expecting. Seems to have a good bit of variety and plenty to unlock. The parry mechanic on the daggers feels off to me somehow.
>Webbed - bought it since I like spiders. Only played around an hour so far. Right now my mission is to help assemble a robotic ant. Web mechanics are fun.
>Return of the Obra Dinn - good thinking style game, need to use deduction to solve the mystery. I am liking it.
>Astlibra - hard to quantify this one. Combat almost reminds me of Castlevania. Music is nice, story seems to be pretty typical and deals with time travel and whatnot. Can definitely tell it was made with love.
>Succubus Successor - I can't remember why I bought this, might've been recommended ITT. Somebody said it was a good game in its own right, even without the nudity. Never played a porn game (closest was smut like Leisure Suit Larry a hundred years ago) but I assumed there'd be plenty of T&A. God damn, this game is explicit. Within the first five minutes you're seeing everything, full on wham bam with the sloppy sounds to go with it. Only played maybe an hour. I doubt I'll finish it since the gameplay isn't very good.
>Kotama and Academy Citadel - got recommended in some MV thread or another. Gameplay was all right. Had a parry mechanic and your usual MV abilities. Story was typical anime shitfest and after maybe an hour I just started hitting X through all of it because I didn't care. Ended up dropping it as it crashed three times in the same spot and I realized I didn't care enough about finishing the game to bother finding a solution (if one even existed).

I wish I was a filthy rich billionaire so I could donate stupid amounts of money to all my favorite /indie/ studios to get their games out of early access and maybe also have some of them put me on the board as Chief Idea Guy.
So instead of destroying the planet and society, I'd just make the video games landscape slightly worse by pumping out some niche games catering to my highly specific tastes that everyone else would find boring.
>>
>>578673448
Most of those are too much of fags to do something useful with it. They'd either refuse to expand the team (which can be kinda reasonable as to not compromise the vision) or scope creep big time. Limitations breeds creativity, the ideal play would just give a nice substantial money injection when they're somewhat close to the finish line but not too much the director or team gets comfortable and the game becomes yet another MGS 5, 2XKO or whatever else examples that I don't care enough to remember.
>>
>>578674160
Realistically yes, I was also thinking about how some games made by a single person won't be sped up significantly by any degree just by throwing more money at the problem.
Alternatively just rock up at some AAA studio, put a sack of twice the budget for their latest big release on the table and say then can have that plus keep the earnings if I get to be idea guy and "fix" their shitty games. Would love to do that with Rockstar, actually.
but it's just wishful thinking anyways

Stress teams were fun to use, I liked to use 3 mummies + bride (the female archer) for the stress team, mummies had aoe stress attacks and could heal while attacking later, it mogged everything. Bride was there mostly for the interrupt skill. Unfortunately, there are too many enemies that are immune to stress attacks, like statues or whatever, so I felt like using another HP damage team for these battles was mandatory. This is just one of the issues I had with the game.

I never had the dlc. For the vanilla hp damage teams, headhunter was strong with % chance of instakilling units. I remember really trying to use some units like vampires and half vampires, only to get shit results. I ended up using headhunter + bride + something else for tanking and support (I don't even remember).

The issue is that pokemon is kind of ass mechanically for singleplayer 1v1 fights, and most clones copy the mechanics too closely and end up fighting the uphill battle on trying to match Pokemon on design and aesthetics when they just don't have the budget to do so. Most players aren't that good. The ones that are don't have 99% win rates. Slay the Spire is what inspired my rant and the average A20 win rate for top players is like 60%, not counting that one broken Watcher build with a 90% win rate.

oh yeah, did I say 20,000?
I don't remember what it was when I pirated this broken shit, but it was probably closer to 200,000, plus an infinite loading loop mining dogecoin or something.
Either way, the "modern" pipeline has all of the shader design done in that shitty visual programming graph AND then do dynamic compilation - so that instead of a one or two megashaders that can be sent to the GPU as a single file upload, the process produces tens of thousands of tiny pieces of shit that each has to be uploaded and compiled one-by-one. You guys should already know how fucking slow file transfers are at many files vs one big file in your OS's file manager.

FTL and Slay the Spire have been the worst things to happen to /indie/ games.

Remember soulful games with handcrafted levels? Now its a 40-60 min game, except that the player is supposed to repeat it with rng shit and permadeth.
>>
>>578866264

>>
>>578866893

>>
>>578867023
Not when you're acting like it has ruined indie games. That would be like saying Dark Souls is the worst thing that happened to video games because there are many others games like it and you don't like the genre.
>>
>>578867290
dark souls did ruin action games thoughbeit
>>
>>578867290
It did affect the indie scene a lot, the market, the media and industry. Roguelike games don't exist in a bubble.
>>
>>578863527
Nah. Sts would be a roguelike according the Berlin definition. Nobody who cares about what is and isn't roguelike or the definition would agree with it, but it would qualify.
>>
>>578846106
I was waiting for 1.0 because I've never understood playing a metroidvania in early access. The game still looks really clunky and something about it still doesn't pass my sniff test. I also see several reviews saying the music is crap and/or AI which if you're trying to be the same style as Ori is something you need to nail.
>>
>>578867917
STS would fail the grid-based check.
>>
>>578867759
One could argue that many indie games, regardless of genres, wouldn't exist without foundational games like the aforementioned. You're just choosing to hyperfocus on one genre and making it the root cause of everything you dislike.
SMB, IWBTG, Minecraft, Cave Story, Dusk, Limbo, Yume Nikki, Rimworld, Amnesia and so on, there are so many games in other genres that had a HUGE impact on the indie scene.
>>
>>578869273
I know, but it doesn't actually disqualify it according to the bd. It quite literally says the none of the usual checks matter.
>>
>>578869301
Its most likely that these devs would be making different types of games, or these games would exist in different forms, without the roguelike mechanics. And they are the root cause of everything I dislike.
>>
I've been thinking about getting an unlimited pass for my local movie theater to go binge watch movies and eat there once a week.
Any games you guys can recommend me to pass time during the wait between movies (15 to 25 minutes)?
>>
>>578875621
The movies are not that good.
>>
>>578875621
if you can't zone out for 15 minutes then you have an attention span problem

me personally I would never watch more than one movie in a day, you need time to process that shit and reflect on it
>>
>>578876728
Do you say the same thing about story heavy games? When the wait is over 20 minutes like 5 to 6 times in a day, that adds up. Besides, not all movies are equal. Watching toy story 5 or rewatching nightmare on elm street is not the same level of mental process than watching the lobster or trainspotting.
>>578876396
You can say the same thing about a lot of video games.
>>
>>578879728
I'm not the one buying a subscription to a lootbox of shovelware.
>>
>>578879728
all movies require reflection
mindless consooming is how media brainwashing actually works

story heavy games need a lot more reflection than movies, even. I think heavy rain put me out of action for several weeks to mull it over.
>>
>>578879968
The difference is that I can choose the day I go there to avoid "shovelware". Besides, I live in a country with a lot of social programs, I'm 19. I pay my taxes and part of those taxes go into financing a cultural program that gives every young adults 150 euros to spend on whatever they want to enrich their personal culture. I'm not into books, all the games I play are non-physical so what's left? Letting that money I indirectly paid for go to waste when I turn 21? Movie it is.
>>578881392
Fair point. I would tend to agree with that, even if I disagree with heavy rain in particular. Still, I guess I could simply go there once or twice a week. That's still way cheaper than buying a single ticket.

I wonder what they will do with the story. The ending was open but the lore and implications change the entire thing. In the trailer they show the walking dead. Does that mean the contract was broken and the ship of the dead is no more? I mean considering we spent pretty much the entire game breaking the tenets which were already weakened by the fact there hasn't been a graveyard keeper in 3 decades. And what happened to your wife? Red Pearls of Borneo is good. Wished the epilogue was more interactive. Little bit too much "girl power". Also, I will always remember Brits as villains. One of the endings was cringe. 9/10

No Results Found was good. The dark "secret" was a little cliche. The climax was a little contrived. Wish it was a little longer. Accuse and truth every time. 9/10

Hmmm, both were free. 10/10 for both, then.

Ai slop is not a sudden shift. It's a shift that has been going on for decades, with mods, dlcs and live services. The people wanted more content no matter the quality. Communists say it's the end of capitalism. I disagree. It's what the people want. The masses aren't unhappy about this outcome, they just don't care. It's just an evolution of consumerism. It's disgusting, it's awful and yet the people targeted pay more and more. They aren't upset, they're gladly giving money to ai slop games. Look at the most profitable gacha games of 2026. A ton of them are using generative ai to replace artist, voice actors, writers and translators.
You will read my chat gpt slop and you will be happy. I'm joking obviously.

Couple of chapters into the new Plague Tale. For a cinematic action-adventure, it gets to the point a lot faster than other games; nice pacing, almost no walk-and-talk stuff yet. The combat isn't amazing by any means, but it's fast enough to be decently fun, especially when multiple enemies attack simultaneously. Great soundtrack as always too. Hope the rest of level design is varied, as I thought the second Plague Tale was less creative than the first one

I quite enjoyed this game that I got on sale for $4.50. People (rightfully) point out that the gameplay is like Inscryption, and perhaps it's not even as deep as Inscryption's, but it isn't purely a card game. You can tell it wanted to be a fusion with an adventure game (there was even a Monkey Island reference which I rolled my eyes at). Some complained that this watered down the card playing experience, but there is actually a good deal of card playing regardless of the wandering around inbetween. I think it is somewhat lacking in the humor department, but it certainly has understandable characters, none of which annoyed me. I will say that I can sense that the writers are somewhat leftist, but the game never feels preachy.
They recently added a "VS Mode" where you can battle freely with a deck free to customize and modify at will outside of the main game. Only problem with this is that it unlocks after you beat the game once, but it also doesn't seem to properly unlock all of the cards you have obtained during the first playthrough, prompting you to do another one (I didn't realize this and bruteforced my way to completing VS Mode with those limitations). But the good news is that this game has four endings (perhaps even more, that's all I found myself) and I found them somewhat entertaining.
This game had a surprising amount of soul. I actually wouldn't mind a sequel or something that fleshes out the card game part to be a bit deeper.

Do you ever wonder what happened to the devs of old games you enjoyed? So many of them never came back to make another game, or anything good.

Loop Hero devs never made another game despite of the success, did they? Someone on steam is theorycrafting that this could be because of Ukraine war and devs being russian.

Space pirates and zombies devs made a rimjob rip-off and some tower defense.

Lucas pope (Obra dinn and Papers Please), last time I heard, was making games for some hipster nostalgiabait plataform.

There is game called Strike Suit Zero, it was one first games I got on steam, a decade ago. Devs never made anything again. Many such cases in my library.

Project Moon (Lobotomy Corporation), opened a sandwich shop at some point and later became a gacha company.

One of the main guys behind Jets'n Guns 1 & 2 studio died years ago, but seems like the studio made some strategy game in 2025.

That was Edgecase. They made a space ship moba(picrelated) called Fractured Space, but it flopped. I played it daily but people seems to hate mobas that aren't western medieval fantasy slop.
Then they got bought by Wargaming(World of Tank and World of Warships company). They were supposed to make a World of Spaceship one, but was canned. And the devs let go and dispersed to the winds.

Recently played a cute little game that's free on Steam called Blue Sign. It's the first release by some Korean indie dev. It's somewhat of a Papers, Please clone but for marine insurance and with anime girls for shipowners, as opposed to fat old Greeks as in real life. Had a decent three hour long playthrough and found myself wishing for more content. I'll replay it again for the alternate endings and will be waiting for further updates.

Mobas was such a shit genre to ge in. Back in the early 00s, because Lol and Dota, everyone and their mother was trying to make a new moba. You had a new moba announced every single day. Its was the same thing that happened once with mmos and later with battle royale. I don't know why people think their new game will be an exception, that will not end up like every single other title in a oversatured niche.
>>
>>579075325
>with mmos and later with battle royale.
Heroshooters seems dead now, this is the age of the extraction shooter or short low quality friendslop.
>>
>>579075617
Hero shooters weren't such a big fad as mobas and battle royale. It was a shorter spurt, I think.

I am out of the loop now. Are extraction shooters really that big?
>>
>>579076445
>Are extraction shooters really that big?
Hard to say, some like Tarkov are popular but I don't think they ever were THAT huge as they're mostly an offshoot of much more popular genres like battle royale and online survival shooters.
Even though the name was probably coined based on the influence of The Division on that style of game, I think they take much more from games such as DayZ, but I could be wrong, I haven't played an actual extraction shooter since The Division and that was a minuscule part of a much larger game and most players didn't even engage with that system.

I know I shouldn't buy them out of solidarity with kojimbo, but emulating has a ton of it's own problems. It's often not quite perfect, if the fps fluctuates even a little bit, you get audio issues, audio in general can be a bit jank at times, sometimes you have issues with the textures etc. and most annoyingly sometimes you only notice these issues 10 hours in.
At least with the steam versions, you get a "plug and play" experience, ya know?
>>
>>579118212
I get it. I still find it distasteful that Konami took funds away from Kojima to fund their gacha and pachinko divisions and when people started getting pissed, they re-released the same crap.
Especially since they demoted him before he resigned, so they essentially fired him in everything but in name.

they are. the game's about a country in shambles due to war. it makes sense to have the odds against you.
what I don't like is how the so called "merc" you're playing as either lied the fuck out to get the job or the enemies in the game are supersoldiers. the stats micromanagement - I mean babysitting - heavily implies that your character is some glass-boned chucklefuck, not even a real merc.
the game is amazing, though it updates every once in a blue moon. mid game is where it shines, early game you just get thrown into a clown car brigand den to get some 300 gold coins scrap to deal with the entire local paramilitary organization.

I don't use steam family share and I only bought 2 games this year. But my backlog keeps growing because of live service, updates and retro games.

Her letting you leave seems to be related to an item. I just kept fucking around and she eventually brought it up herself after a while. Kind of lame how big of a change she undergoes, and how easy it is to get that escape because of something simple like that.

I expected to be able to have more ways to escape, like somehow calling for help, or having multiple exits, like some hitman game where you can approach the problem in many different ways, but the scenario seems to be way too simple.

I will try to escape alone next.

I was only a heavy console player in the PS3 era. I still dabble but outside of nintendo stuff it's hard to justify when things frequently run better on PC. That being said the PS5 is still an absolutely gorgeous console when put through its paces. FFXVI may be ass but that's some of the best fire I've seen in a video game.

How do I go about getting into the Trails series? Is it just this and Trails in the Sky 2nd chapter?

>developer posts a trailer and says feedback is welcome
>deletes feedback comments that are too critical
>>
>>579278997
To be fair, "your shit sucks and I'm not sure why you're subjecting us to this assparade" isn't exactly constructive. Even if something's dogshit you've gotta give them reasons why and something to build from if you want it to be construed as feedback rather than jeering.
>>
>>579134060
people will tell you this is a bad relationship
realistically, I want the love and affection and to suck on some mad tiddy until it's too much and I can just skip town, bonus points if I sleep at her place so she doesn't know where I live
>>
>>579279268
Well it roughly amounted to "this is worse than the first game, this new game is built on a fundamental mistake, the second game is still broken, and you should have revisited series X instead of series Y for a new game". There wasn't profanity, it just wasn't friendly.
>>
>>579279268
"constructive" criticism is such a weird ass-backwards american psyop
you don't have to solve the problem for them just to tell someone there is a problem
>>
>>579281118
All it does is make me insecure, because I can easily tell there's a problem and what the problem is, but then these people go "okay how to do I fix it", and I'm not an artist or a coder, I have no idea, then they go "oh so you're not helping, you're just stirring shit", and they call me the shit stirrer and it makes me sad so I use DDoSS against their forum and report their discord server for hosting underage porn.
>>
>>579281118
It's not about solving the problem, it's about articulating the problem. "The movement is crap" doesn't give the dev anything to work on. "You lose all momentum if you hit an angle between 350 and 10 degrees on the control stick and the jump arc is misleadingly short relative to the height spacing of the platforms" is actual feedback. Sometimes all you've got is that the gamefeel isn't good and if that's the case then that's the case, but I figure anyone that's enough of a freak to be posting in this general has a vocabulary and breadth of genre exposure to at least describe what they're playing.
>>
>>579282417
ME NO UNDERSTAND

>>
>>579281118
what's ass backward is that in this day and age everyone thinks they must have an opinion on everything even when all it boils down to is basically just "it's shit"
if you're not going to bother explaining, just leave a thumbs down and don't be a little bitch
criticism should be constructive by default

>>
>>579285865
you are extremely entitled to think everyone owes you something extra when giving you criticism, actually.

what you deserve is a slap upside the head.
>>
>>579287624
Then don't take issues with a dev asking for feedback filtering out the shit answers that don't help development.

>>579288232

Finally got around to play her game. I thought it's going to be just a generic psychological horror with a cute girl.
I was pleasantly surprised when I got the true ending and it turned out that there isn't actually anything evil going in the background. She's just in denial about her friends' death and ends up accidentally killing you in the normal ending while trying to help you and her friends.

I haven't played anything touhou in over 10 years and picked this game on a whim after gaben recommended it to me and damn if it didn't hit me right back in the nostalgia.
It's basically a retelling of the games starting with 6 with pretty good writing as far as touhou goes. The gameplay is tactical strategy with a lot of curveballs being thrown your way, and it's pretty much a Super robot Wars reskin (which I have never played so for everyone else like me I'd say it plays kind of like Advance Wars? Or maybe Fire Emblem which I also haven't played)
After 20 hours I'm finally done with the first arc of the game (out of 4) and I have no reason to believe the next ones will be horter considering every review as 150+ hours played.
Game is called Fantasy Maiden Wars, and it's been my life this past week.

looks fun. Where we go, another game to the backlog of infinite works.

"I am the boner in my pants.
Vydia is my body, and indies is my blood.
I have wishlisted over a thousand titles.
Unknown to boredom, Nor known to Life.
Have withstood early access to play many games.
Yet, those hands will never play everything.
So, as I play, Unlimited Indie Works!"

I lack motivation to do anything. The only way I can convince me to do anything is if I write it down in my diary and only because I don't want to disappoint my own diary. I have games I want to play and instead I just sit there looking at the wall the entire day. I don't post, I don't read, I don't watch or listen to anything I just stare and time passes.
>>
>>579319272
Happens to me quite often, 30+ years of games has made me jaded and it feels like I have played everything, or at least had every possible kind of experience.
It turns out I've simply lost my ability to have fun with the things I liked, or so I thought, so I reinstalled some old games with mods, or bought some stuff in a similar genre that I believed would be boring because I had already played something like this, and guess what, I'm having fun again.
Don't always chase novelty, and don't try to persuade yourself that a game wouldn't be fun because you've already played something similar.
Don't think twice, just get the damn game and start playing immediately.
>>
>>579319272
You just have to find THE one thing that gets you out of this state

I saw Atelier mentioned in the OP and remembered I wanted to give the series a try. How's Atelier Sophie as an entry point? I'm just looking to have a chill time so I don't want anything with too much time pressure, and I don't want to start TOO recent because I have the patience to play and get hooked on something that may be a little aged and clunky but it's going to be easier to move on to newer entries than older ones.
