unironically the game is in a far more dangerous state now than it was in january. back then, everyone was very clearly upset about one thing, and outside of that was largely good will. now, they're in a far more dubious position. look at all the other gachas that spedrun EOS or had a massive irreversible drop in userbase. it's never just one controversy, it's built up bad will, and then one straw that breaks the camel's back and causes the whole thing to collapse. with the censorship, because all of it was tied to a single decision and not the result of a slow build up, it was just as easily reversed, even if they did have to be cautious in the months following because of watchful eyes. now, when the inevitable misstep big enough to ignite the fire happens, the damage has already been done, and addressing whatever that misstep ends up being won't be enough to fix it. I've seen this happen countless times, the mini controversies lately have all been blatant warning signs, and the devs have allowed that attitude of "well it's not like people are quitting in droves yet, let's just wait for it to blow over", but it doesn't work like that, it just festers.
