I know people hate Oblivion here, but I think the main quest did a good job at feeling epic. While Skyrim's falls very flat. Though, you could argue TES has always been a dungeon crawler, so Skyrim went back to TES's roots by making 90% of quests dungeon crawling.

atmora is frozen in time and aldmeris is melting in time. neither were supposed to be real, more so the concepts that the "mannish" and "merrish" spirits clung to during the dawn era. however, between kalpas, Kyne brought down a piece of aetherius for the nords to use as a stopping point before she whisks them away back to high hrothgar. It couldn't sustain people for long, due to time slowing and eventually becoming frozen. eventually, after Ysgramor's last voyage back to Skyrim from atmora, he "pushed" it back into aetherius, so that the nord spirits would not very trapped there and could be more easily returned to high hrothgar at the start of the next kalpa.

>>578782698I never got the impression the human races are supposed to be super distinct, but if anything I think it's easier to spot an imperial out of the lineup with the default racial features they have in skyrim. Previously I've done it mostly just by voice or remembering which of the races is which race. Obviously if you mod everything to be less ugly it will be lost though
