The sift dimension ironically looks shit I'd rather the end update

imagine numojang doing a whole new dimension
it would have 3 new building blocks + 1 new wood type
2 passive mobs that don't drop anything, and if you bring one of them to the end and have it touch an enderman it'll drop a flower. the other does absolutely nothing.
1 new neutral mob, it drops a grass block if killed
that's it.

Finally, a dirt farm that doesn't require mental gymnastics and phd in redstone.
>>
>>578933825
If we are to believe harristic’s copes, a major update has been in development for the past couple of years, which is why the bigger devs like kingbdogz and ulraf haven’t said anything about updates since tricky trials. By the time they reveal it, at least 90% of the update should already be done
>>
>>578933579
Not sure why people care about it, looks generic. Would rather a consistency update for all blocks that miss their variants (walls/stairs/slabs) and renewable cinnabar and calcite.

How do I login into my Microsoft account if I previously picked the option to setup the pin later? I bought Minecraft java edition on a different PC and I was able to play it on my current PC. Now I want to start playing again yet the dickheads at Microsoft keeps showing me sign in later or error when I choose the same option I chose last time. I don't have a fucking pin or windows hello. These dickheads at Microsoft are such scumbags. I bought the game and have my account credentials yet these dickheads won't let me sign in even though I can't setup windows hello or a pin because I can't sign in to begin with. i'm sure it's possible for both to work together, a plain elytra shows your cape and a dyed/trimmed one will show that instead so you've got options. i like the migrator cape elytra though so i'm not that upset that mojang will never ever add customization to the elytra

I know not many people had faith in that shader from last thread and i see why, but i think it'd become something decent with some tweaking. Been at it for a while.
I'm suprised at how much time you can burn in this game BEFORE you actually play it.
>>
>>579043185
>I'm suprised at how much time you can burn in this game BEFORE you actually play it.
i spent like 2 weeks and 25 hours of in game time testing and putting together a modlist before i started a single survival world and i think that time is rather short compared to many others who make their own modlists.
im surprised you're spending so much time tinkering with shaders before playing, my favorite time to test out shaders is after i've built something to see what makes it look best
>>
>>579043456
That's because i'm basically disecting this one
https://modrinth.com/shader/legacy-console-edition-shaders
The default settings aren't that good, they're kinda shit to be honest, but this one has easy to understand code and i'm a retard so i'm scratching the itch coupled with some Youtube videos. I don't need or want something fancy just a white/gray overlay and some gamma and warm tweaks is getting close to what i want.

For those of you that like or need to make farms, do you prefer to have a "industrial district" where all your farms go in a big pile or do you like creating specific builds and putting farms inside them? I'm just getting back into minecraft after a few years break and I'm starting to need masses of blocks but don't know if I should create some big platform out on the ocean for farms or try to integrate them into my main area along with all my none farm builds
>>
>>579050675
The worst part os I used to play on switch but it has a 2 gigabyte cap and I didn't want my world to be stuck on there since I put some much time into it. So I had to transfer it to my phone since they don't have size caps
>>579053509 as someone that loves building farms and redstone contraptions i kinda suck at aesthetics. I usually use either polished deepslate or stone bricks.
https://files.catbox.moe/egpmpj.mp4
>>
>>579053509
I'm actually just about to create my own industrial district because I'm getting tired of all my farms being scattered across my world, got done moving and expanding my cactus, sugar cane and bamboo farms a little while ago

I completely removed my creeper farm because I'm going to make one of those all purpose mob farms which will generate gun powder anyway, I need lots of bonemeal and boneblocks but was using a skelly spawner so this'll be better over all

I plan to mix up what you asked, it'll be a district on the sea for most farms that don't need specific spots (like my cornflower farm for blue dye which is in a flower forest biome) but I'll be putting a perimeter wall around it to make it look like a big work site, I'll be making outer shells for most farms and giving them an industrial look like chimney stacks and conveyor belts going from one farm to the other that don't actually do anything, all just for show

So the whole thing will look like a depot site with warehouses and such

>>579053509
>do you prefer to have a "industrial district" where all your farms go in a big pile or do you like creating specific builds and putting farms inside them?
I tend to do a little bit of both. I'll have an area dedicated to a certain thing, e.g. plants, and build several farms close together, but I also have some farms that stand by themselves. For instance, I have a quad moss farm in a sparse jungle that I intend to build a step pyramid around, and I built a village over my gunpowder and sugar cane farms with some sort of Japanese firework-festival theme. It depends on my mood, really. Too much of either starts feeling dull

>>
>>579053509
i like a good mix. i like my buildings to have a function and a reason to go into them so i like putting small farms that can go anywhere in them. my general mob farm is a massive cobblestone abomination and it'll stay that way because putting a roof on it murders rates and i dont feel like making a giant monolith to cover it in. my enderman farm is also undecorated, as is my guardian farm. but yeah, whenever it is convenient to cover something up and make it look acceptable i try to. just building farms and having a bunch of eyesores in a spot you keep returning to for resources is a little demotivating, i think.

you can raid structures like bastions to get netherite and netherite upgrade templates so you can upgrade your gear to netherite. you'll also want to get mending on everything, as well as all the best enchants.
you can go to ancient cities and get swift sneak enchants to make building easier
you can beat the ender dragon if you haven't already and get an elytra and shulker boxes
you can collect all the armor trims in the game
you can build a castle :)

A bug is a bug, just like Notch patched out the Farlands forever ago

>>579134620
https://mojira.dev/MC-159283

Due to a bug introduced in snapshots for the Village & Pillage update, The End's world generation broke starting somewhere in the ballpark of 300,000-370,000 blocks. An arithmatic overflow when calculating the squared distance from the dimension origin caused 'rings' to form that just harsh-cutoff the end islands(like if you'd used world edit or something to delete chunks) to pure void for like 100,000 blocks and then the terrain would appear again for 100,000 blocks, then disappear again. Rinse and repeat until reaching the world border.
>>
>>579140486
nintendrone spotted
farlands were way cooler than the world border we have now
end rings are way way way way way cooler than having absolutely nothing special there at all. not a single person normally playing the game has ever been affected by them in any fucking way at all.
>>
>>579140486
I wasn't saying it was good or bad that they removed them, just that there's past precedent for them patching out world gen bugs like this even back when Notch was in charge.

If it were up to me the Farlands and End Rings would still be in the game.

Alternatively, there's this flat patch of terrain next to the ocean base that I'm not sure what to do with, I could move it there and build a dedicated hab-dome for it. The conduit (along with sponges) opens up a lot of options for things I can build underwater. I didn't have it when I was building the base, I just filled in the interior with sand/gravel and dug it out because I literally cannot help myself

>Am I losing drops by using a 5 minute timer for the hopper cart?
When not just run it whenever the pistons get activated?
>>
>>579172873
It's a setup where each observer/piston combo activates individually. I did one in the past where it just cleared the whole row and ran the cart whenever a single one reached a height of 3, and that also worked just fine. I just wanted to try something different

>>
>>579172665
I think you can grow sugarcane on mud, which lets you put hoppers directly below. You can also make it 3 wide and have a water stream in the middle - just put down iron bars or glass panes to stop the sugarcane from one side getting knocked over to the other side. Items despawn after 5 minutes, so you're likely to lose the occasional drop with a 5 minute timer, but I'd be more conscious of the entity lag by having items stick around for so long
>>
>>579177280
Masons sell both quartz blocks and quartz pillars at master level. You can also farm quartz through piglin bartering
>>
>>579177787
You're right, mud does work. That's much simpler than what I was trying to do, thank you anon.
>>
>>579178734
No worries. Mud is probably the best for a smaller farm. I use the water-stream design myself, but my farm is quite a bit larger

Simply no point in them. It's just for jump boost potions and potions already suck to use. Cows are better for leather and food. It's why there's no sheep or pig farms either. Cows provide the best food (equal to pigs) while dropping leather too

>>
>>579140132
there is really nothing more simple than having an item (or a snowman shooting snowballs) into the end portal while it's loaded, and having you on the other side holding left click to mine the platform as it respawns. To get comparable rates to that you'd need a shit ton of cauldrons and buckets and hoppers and etc etc etc. Add a wither to the obsidian platform thing and it's not even remotely close.
And, if you don't need tens of thousands of obsidian, you also just hold left click on the obsidian pillars in the end just fine. Building a massive cauldron farm is way overkill for that scenario as well.
>>
The easiest way to get massive amounts of obsidian is an automatic piglin bartering system.
>>
>>579231259
oh, true. i forgot piglins dropped that. that's also the ONLY way to get large amounts of crying obsidian in the entire game, as well as the only easy way to get lots of quartz, so piglin barterers stay winning i guess.
i wouldn't say you get massive amounts of obsidian from piglins though, but certainly more than enough for most people's needs. assuming you've got a gold farm making about 400 gold blocks an hour, you would only get around 380 or so obsidian per hour, and 600+ crying obsidian per hour. And that's assuming 0 time for the piglin bartering which isn't necessarily true, but it's not a huge part of it.

I wish there were building blocks based on obsidian, like bricks or a polished variant.
>>
>>579242518
eh, deepslate is already very dark, and there's black concrete for pure blackness. oh, and blackstone is a thing that's even darker than deepslate. i feel like there's plenty of dark bricks in the game as is, obsidian wouldn't really add too much that you can't already do. maybe if it was a little more unique than those i could see it being useful or nice sometimes. a polished variant at least could look really neat.

>>
>>579250563
iron's not really a big issue, like you said, but even still that many cauldrons it does start to add up lol. especially when a simple platform farm only takes the iron for a beacon pretty much. . .
but hey, especially if you designed this yourself that's pretty neat. i'm sue you could pretty easily get a ton of lava buckets from this farm and it'd be a little more convenient than spamming buckets in the nether. probably.

Do you consider the nether roof to be cheating? I'm wanting to build a wither skeleton farm and all the guides I can find involve using the nether roof, but I'm not sure I'm comfortable with that.
>>
>>579298050
I don't, not after the nether update. Mojang had an opportunity to lower the build height, but they chose not to
>>
>>579298050
I'm almost certain you cannot make a wither skeleton farm on the roof because they only spawn within their bounding boxes which are located far beneath the bedrock ceiling contained in and around nether fortresses. Unless this is a bedrock edition thing and wither skeletons spawn anywhere, on java every farm I've ever seen for wither skeletons has been built directly on top of a nether fortress

>>
>>579299691
I'm looking at ianxofour's design, which uses an iron golem to bait the wither skeletons into a portal in the fortress, which sends them to the overworld, then into another portal which links to the nether roof where you kill them.
>>
>>579300148
Are you making this on a server or has there been an update that disallows mobs from despawning out of player range? I know there's been some portal fuckery over the past year or so but originally mobs would despawn in farms like this unless you had two players active, one to spawn them in and another to keep them from despawning in the overworld

Honestly haven't bothered much with wither skeleton farms for many years because I never need more than 2-3 beacons at a time
>>
>>579300506
I'm doing it on my single player world, and from what I understand when a mob goes through a nether portal, it loads 3x3 chunks in the target dimension for 15 seconds, and if you build the farm correctly then there will be enough wither skeletons going through the portal that the overworld stays loaded even though you're in the nether
>>
>>579300506
>>579300843
The "despawn if no player is in range" check has a bug: if there is no player in the dimension, then the check fails and so nothing despawns.

Kids theze days with their fancy AFK wither skeleton farms. I don't think you even need the nether roof for that, these redstone troglodytes just use it without giving a single shit about what counts as cheating, because abusing meta mob spawning mechanics to make farms is already cheaty enough.
>>
>>579298050
I play bedrock and I don't consider anything cheating as long as it's vanilla and able to earn achievements. And that also extends to Java as well. Basically keep inventory on Java and bedrock is cheating because on bedrock it disables achievements but using chunkbase isn't because it doesn't disable achievements

The farm makes you AFK on the Nether roof because it removes the spawning box from the surroundings as those spots become >128 blocks away from the player, leaving only the platform where wither skeletons will spawn, but you don't have to truly build things there, but people puts the portal there any ways because you don't have to spawn proof.
>>
i made a 1 dimensional wither skelly farm once, completely under the bedrock roof. found a nether fortress completely in a soul sand valley because a soul sand valley wont fill up the mob cap, only a few mobs are allowed to spawn there. so all i had to do was spawn proof the entire fortress with a few shulker boxes of slabs. it was miserable. the rates were okay though.
i love the design that puts you above the roof, it's so much nicer to build and really quite elegant comparatively.
>>
>>579317015
I've never liked designs that rely on portals to send mobs around. I don't know why, exactly, but they always feel messy to me
