And no matter how technically broken the patches may have been, they still did the TL work in a few days. Companies AND consumers would cream their pants if they could get scripts 30,000 lines long TL'd overnight.I think MAO will really take off once they finish their "going through beloved kamige classics" phase and maybe have a period of a few months where they translated hyped new releases. Well, not that there are many if any hyped new releases with VNs in 2026, but imagine a new Yuzusoft or a new Amakano being translated within a week of release, or maybe even a smee. If they can give people the impression "every time there's a new hype VN, MAO will have a translate out soon," that's when they'll win and communities will be eating out of their hands. Because half of people will be reading the hype new releases and the other half will be sitting on their hands for years. BST ain't gonna be moving any needles.

I just dl'd the Amakano 3 MTL (DeVoid, chatGPT SOL 5.6) and it incorrectly translates Ootori-san as Mrs. Ootori despite the fact she's a classmate. This is genuinely worse than anything I've seen skimming hundreds of MAO lines and this is right at the start of the game. There's no way this survived any human editing passes or proofreading.I know that MTL is essentially a lazy thing and will be released by lazy people, but the potential of this technology is really being completely fucking ruined by lazy people. Seriously, get a SINGLE (1) human proofreader to read through something and note stuff that sticks out to them, fix those things, and then you've got a damn fine translation that most won't notice. You only have these problems when you don't even look at what you're fucking releasing first!!! Arrrrgh!!!

When I, a human translator, released my first English patch, I read through the whole damn thing first. I hated it because I don't like reading my own writing, but I took the few days to read it. I had just spent over a month working on the game day-in and day-out, but even when I was done I held back my urge to drop the patch immediately and I read through the game myself to make sure it worked and everything was translated properly. These guys are translating entire games with zero effort in a matter of hours and they still can't be assed to LITERALLY TAKE A GLANCE AT THE FIRST FEW MINUTES OF THEIR PATCH before dropping it. And partially because of that, people remain ignorant of advances in MTL. It's staggering to me.

I've been trying to think about how I would feel if I read this as an EOP in the past, and I am thinking that I would have not noticed anything wrong.
