The most unsettling part of MTL is how fluid and strong he prose is. In truth, I have really high standards for English prose in that I get uncomfortable whenever I read amateurish prose: I fear that reading shit prose will infect my subconscious verbal processing and make my own writing more shit. And, in contrast, I feel undue pleasantness from reading good prose because I feel it is impacting my subconscious positively. This is probably like 80% fake, but it significantly impacts my choice of reading material and is partially why I generally maintain a hard rule for reading no translations; the average translator is just a dogwater writer and makes me feel like reading their prose will make me a worse writer too. I avoid them and look for English-original writers that give me some fuzzy pleasantness with their high quality prose.And Sol's prose is genuinely so fluid I get that fuzzy pleasant feeling for quite a few lines. There's some awkwardness at times for sure, like when it's trying too hard to reflect an idiomatic phrase or what have you, but the average line here is so very well-written in a way you may have to be really locked into writing otounderstand. That's partially why I'm genuinely feeling a little drawn to just keep reading the Amakano 3 MTL. It's not unlike finding a translation done by an extremely skilled writer. Accuracy aside (though the accuracy is solid too), this is where Shiravune flagged in comparison; on a line-by-line basis one could already see the clunkiness and amateur clumsiness creeping in for their lines. It's just hard to write lines with perfect fluidity one after another whilst also being drawn into dark patterns by Japanese sentence structure. Reading most human TLs, especially for VNs, just feels so bad I could die too. But this... It feels almost as sweet as the scent of the flesh golems themselves...
