I think it really is lack of interest, the only PS4 emulation progress I've seen lately is Bloodborne being mostly playable.

Alright, now that there’s a new thread, why does /aceg/ have such a hateboner for 04? Is it the new players who recently got into the series and feel the need to target the “overrated” game to look cool, or is it the guys who have 5 as their favorite and, because of the relatively recent wave of overcriticism against it, feel the need to lash out at it for whatever reason?
>>
>>579839191
Why would you emulate the PS4 for AC5 when you can just emulate the PS2? It's just roundabout. The port on PS4 is cool because it's an actual native port.
>>
>>579839191
Still kinda insane that PCSX2 was released 2 years after the PS2 was and had like 90% of the library playable(in software mode) before the PS3 was even out. Hell by 2010(PS2 was 10 years old) you could play almost any PS2 game at high resolution with widescreen patches and only minor graphical bugs in a few games while others were essentially perfect.
PS3 emulation via RPSC3 was a bit slower(but the CELL was a nightmare to work with so that's understandable) but by 2019 you had a very capable emulator that could run the vast majority of the library near perfectly.
Meanwhile the PS4 was released 13 years ago and the only emulator for it has like 15% of the library "playable" with massive bugs and slowdowns everywhere. And the PS4 has literally no unique hardware quirks, all you have to do is translate the OS so it can run on Windows or Linux. You essentially don't even need to emulate the PS4 hardware, just its software.
>>579839870
No real reason if you just want to play the game. Just thought it was interesting how slow emulation has been for 8th gen consoles. There was a lot of discussion around this when they were announced, people thought emulation would be super easy since they were just PCs in a box.
>>
>>579839323
I'm pretty sure it's just a couple of posters, but I assume it's largely just because it feels somewhat... empty. It codified Ace Combat's modern gameplay for good, and its achievements as an early PS2 game are commendable, but in the end it is still just the bones that the rest of the series would build upon.
>>
>>579839323
AC04 is an acquired taste. It doesn't have the epic high production value story of 5 or the sheer cool factor of Zero. A lot of missions are score attack and provide few directives aside from "you have 20 minutes, go blow shit up". Because of this many of its missions also take quite a while to complete compared to other AC games.
If you get really into the series and replay each entry like 5 times then you're going to start appreciating the high replay value and the open-ended nature of the missions but for a first play-through the missions can kinda blend together and feel drawn out and boring, especially if you played AC5 first where almost every mission provides character dialogue and plot advancement.
Essentially the more you engage with the series the more you'll like 04 and the less you'll like 5. This can create some friction that's a prime target for ragebait.

The gameplay is less ambitious than 3 and 5, 0, 6.
Personally I still really love the story presentation. Maybe it's the strongest of the series. I enjoy it every time I replay. It's also a literal unc game that anons on here are probably showing to their literal nephews now though.
>>
>>579839323
4 is the most high-brow AC and the thinking man's game. 5tards instinctively realise this and it makes them very insecure, which makes them lash out. Thet are envious and can't help themselves, Sad! Also notice how zerofags never have a problem with 4 because they are comfortable and secure with themselves and their tastes
>>
>>579839323
04 is either my favorite or just below 0 depending on how I'm feeling when I wake up.

>>
>>579839323
I went into 4 knowing virtually nothing about it but expecting and hoping to love it as much as the other games. I didn't. Most of the time it felt boring and dull and barebones, although I understand it was their first PS2 game so it wasn't going to be super ambitious and complex in terms of mission design and whatnot.
I don't hate it, I just don't see whatever it is you people see in it.

But yeah, I'm kinda burnt from Bamco's practice with how they dealt with Tekken.
>>
>>579867003
My top reasons:
1: You don't need the Zero port, it's going to be the same experience as playing in a PS2 emulator which is free and works great these days.
2: It will be cheaper by Christmas, and even cheaper if you wait longer.
3: There's a decent chance for performance problems at launch which might improve later.
4: You'll be telling off Bamco for raising the price.
5: Since I already preordered, I can get way ahead in multiplayer progress and blow your cockpit smoove off with an upgraded plane.
>>
>>579867003
I pre-ordered the Deluxe edition, so you are free to pirate the game, Project Aces wont lose any money :)

ACAH is the best thing to happen to Ace Combat and it's the reason we still have the franchise today.
They were already going max stupid with AC6 being an XBOX exclusive and the early 2010s killed off so many franchises as publishers got greedy and started doing stupid shit. Every franchise that didn't COD-ify itself got axed forever and many of those that did(and then failed miserably) survived as the publishers got concrete proof that COD-ifying their shit doesn't work(while the franchises that didn't even try were just written off as useless).
>>

Yep, revisiting it now that I've got some free time.
I've also modified the intake to give it some space for the front gear (since you can't put it in front of the intake itself), and now I'm wondering whether I could put the rear in the fuselage.

I'm not exactly sure how to put it but the geometry of the cockpit seems too modern for its era. Even looking at the F3H which is advanced for its time, there's sort of some straight sections to the canopy glass instead of being one contiguous curve.

Of course I know it's not the finished product, but sacrificing almost half the frames is never worth it for me, also check the hangar lights, it adjusts all the time and it makes it feel almost gelatinous, numbers behind the clouds become a blur, and there's a weird glimmer when looking at the sky.

>You can customize their appearance, including the skin, emblem, and weathering.
>>>allowing you to bolster their stats
Well that sounds gross. Multiplayer grinders/whales will not only have (faster) access to better planes but their same planes will also just be better than a nugget's plane with the same weapon/part loadout. Was it the same way in Infinity?
>>
>>579933267
yes
>>
>>579933267
Yes. Also Infinity was incredibly grindy (and fuel meant there were restrictions on how fast you could grind if you didn't pay) on top of that. Getting a single plane to level 20 took like half a year if you were doing it on free fuel. Or even longer if it was one of the more expensive ones.
8 probably won't be that bad though.
>>
>>579933267
Most people never played Infinity to know or look back at it with rose-tinted glasses but it always was a super-sweaty unbalanced mess. They're simply not good enough to put things on an even level with all the different planes + customization options.
I doubt ACO will be much better.

It kinda should be unbalanced though. An F-22 is better than a MiG-21. If they're competing the F-22 should be at an advantage. If it's not then something wrong has happened.
ACI did admittedly ruin even that by having the ~special~ MiG-21 which was better than the F-22 because it just was though.

I liked ac6 missions because they're the first time I didn't feel like I was actively gimping myself for using attackers. Almost every mission is ground target heaven with tons of clumps to chew up with bombs. Fuckin loved using the Tornado in that game.
>>
>>579949015
Lack of ground targets was never the problem with attackers, it was the fact that a multirole or a fighter with UGBLs is strictly superior to an attacker with UGBLs since they're faster and more manoeuvrable and it's not like attackers do extra damage with their bombs compared to other planes.
Even if you removed all the drones from "Long Day" a Berkut with UGBs is still a better option for that mission than an A-10 or a Fullback.

Hopefully AC8 fixes that by letting you take multiple SPWs. It's the thing that made the Frogfoot viable in PW. Sure, you can take bombs or MLAGs in one slot on a Fulcrum or a Tomcat but a Frogfoot can take MLAGs on all slots and launch like 20 of them to wipe out an entire sector.

Fire and forget is cozy. 7 has a lot of mobile ground units that can edge out of the blast radius if you don't lead a bomb far enough, and when the mission is TRIGGER DO EVERYTHING A2G missiles save mental bandwidth and stress. Not that it's really necessary.
>>
>>579971395
Well in that case you might as well go for the LACM which is basically a guided UGBL(because the actual guided bombs suck ass and have crap AoE). Still no reason to use XAGMs.

Long time Ace Combat fan about to play Ace Combat 7 for the first time. Should I bother with "Skies Restored" mod or just go vanilla?
>>
>>579973518
Definitely Vanilla for your first playthrough. Skies "Restored" restores a bunch of cut dialogue that doesn't really make a lot of sense with how the story has been changed in the various rewrites.
The only mods I'd bother to use for a first run would be idolm@ster or love live skins(or maybe even Girls Band Cry or Bang Dream if that's your thing). Make sure to edit Count's special skins too so he gets to fly around in an Itasha jet.

This. I'm playing through AC6 again for the first time in like 15 years and as soon as I got these things ground targets became a complete fucking joke. I don't even wanna use them anymore because it takes out so many ground targets at once.
>>
>>579964674
Watching vtubers and new people not used to flying play this, and trying it myself, it is extremely cozy using lock on A2G weapons that can fire and forget instead of having to guide a bomb in on the correct spot. Frees up a lot of time.
>>
>>579986383
>Frees up a lot of time
It really doesn't. Blowing up all the targets in one pass with SFFS/UGBL/FAEB frees up a lot more time than picking off a few of them with XAGMs.
This sort of lazy approach to kill efficiency is exactly why so many nuggets got filtered by Long Day.
>>
>>579986696
Probably. I think the problem with those levels is people not being used to the basics of flight. The constant forward movement in a 3D space is something they can't wrap their head around. Trying to loop back over and over on a single target you missed instead of hitting the next thing and then turning around at the end.

Can't forget gas gas gas either. So many guys will fly at a low near neutral speed when time is your number one enemy and you should be throttled up 100% of the time when you're not engaged

All the better to make the multilock A2A specials even less viable. Now instead of firing two 6AAMs to kill one big plane from a distance and then slinging the other four at some fighters, you can immediately waste your whole salvo.

Yeah Crimson One a shit. He gets downed too often to be a credible threat, talks too much shit when the hardest parts of his fights are his squad size/superweapon spam, and spends most of his time malding/projecting instead of actually being interesting.

I unironically like Crimson 1, it's a bold choice to make your final boss canonically retarded. I don't give a shit about what the story was trying to say about him from a thematic standpoint, he's a seething moron from minute 1 and I love it. Hell PW takes the secret option for war stories, instead of war being le bad or le good, war is fucking stupid and the people making the decision to go to war all eat glue.
>>580041295
It's definitely a quality piece of DLC. Obviously we're never gonna find out about what exactly happened in Oceania, and that's probably for the best, but what we do know is bad enough that it sowed the seeds for Cascadia's rebellion. Also the invasion of Magadan was probably what pushed the Federation to fire Cordium nukes in the first place. Flawed as it is I do ultimately like PW and the world it takes place in.
>>
I'm replaying PW right now, I forgot how most voice acting has the same quality as the voice acting from some shitty skyrim quest mod
>>
>>580047653

Frontline 59 has a noticeable jump in VA quality, guess they had more money to hire more experienced VAs. K-9's VAs are all pretty good, especially Eye Tee. Faust is pretty good. I swear the Federation commander from mission 5 is Sky Eye's VA but I might be wrong. The handful of returning characters like Stardust and Captain Woodward also sound a bit better too.

>I unironically like Crimson 1, it's a bold choice to make your final boss canonically retarded. I don't give a shit about what the story was trying to say about him from a thematic standpoint
Yeah, both C1 and Mihaly are doing the same thing meta-narratively and it's really not that interesting. Basically: "WARS WILL NEVER END BECAUSE YOU WANT TO PLAY A COOL JET GAME AND COOL JET GAME CAN ONLY EXIST IF WE CREATE MORE WARS FOR YOU TO FLY COOL JETS IN!! YOU MONSTER!!"
Crimson is at least funny(presented as as seething retard) while Mihaly is basically a wojak that the devs are shoving in your face and saying "heh, this is totally you".
Also it helps that Crimson is fun to fight because he doesn't fucking cheat. Even when he has a super OP superplane in "Kings" you can shoot him down before he can finish his dialogue if you have enough dakka(MGPs melt his healthbar). There's no plot armour or special trigger to ensure he gets to finish his yapping before moving onto the next phase, unlike with Mihaly. Same thing is true for the fight in M18, you can actually make him shut up by shooting him down.
>>
>>580047653
It's funny how Kaiser has objectively the best VA in the base game.
>>580046963
>>580053136
I'd argue that the story actually benefits from C1 being a retard, it's like they distilled every in-universe Fed propaganda piece into a single hypocrite. There simply isn't a better way to portray a faction as evil than to make your nemesis embody every single principle the faction stands for.

He literally didn't. Crimson is not supposed to be (you), Monarch is. Monarch is the one jumping from war to war, not giving a fuck who he flies for as long as he gets to fly cool jets.
Mihaly is a caricature of (you) – he doesn't really care about nations, sides, or why he fights, he just wants to keep flying cool jets.
Crimson 1 is a response to (you) – he cares a lot about his country, laws, and why he fights and is appalled by (you) not giving a shit as long as you get to fly cool jets.
>>580054012

that’s the real issue, seems like a ton of jets are getting QAAMs this time around

But that's a good thing. QAAMs are the kind of weapon that's really useful for your wingmen but rarely the best choice for the player(but also never outright bad).

sorry I meant in the context of MP/COOP

Sticking all of Joker in Su33s will be even better now that it has QAAM and RKT.
>>
>>580090683
Putting them all in Prowlers/Growlers will probably be the optimal strategy. I'm not convinced they'll be much better than 5's wingmen in actually killing things, no matter what weapon they're using, so may as well have them just buff you instead.
>>
>>580050581
Isn't Faust 2B's English VA or something? That Sony cash definitely allowed them to get some higher profile voices.
>>
>>580091059
>I'm not convinced they'll be much better than 5's wingmen in actually killing things
Why not? 1 guy in a gooncave figured it out, Project Wingman's NPCs are not only good enough to kill things but they'll actively steal your kills if you're not careful.
>>580090683
I guess? QAAMs are the kind of weapon that's kinda shitty to use because they're not that powerful, kinda shitty to play against because they're really annoying, and kinda shitty to have on your team in co-op because you'd rather have something with more outright power.
Still, better than having to tolerate EMLniggers every fucking lobby.
>>
>>580066072
Unfortunately the Fed propaganda in Frontline 59 worked on me so I firmly believe in Total Cascadian Death. Although I think the real reason they're afraid of the mercs isn't because they're worse than either Cascadia or the Federation, more just because they have the potential to upend the world order even more than the rebellion did. I don't really get the impression that our Sicario idiots are these secret evil masterminds who kick puppies for fun, it's more like they got dragged into a war because Kaiser's a gloryhound and got in way over their heads.
>>580069574
Me too, except I have no dev skills and I want to make Ace Combat for helicopters. Yes, there would be a mission where you have to fight off a flight of F-16s. Genuinely surprised AH didn't do that for one of the helo levels, closest it got was that you could optionally shoot down Frogfoots in the Moscow level.
>>580091619
Yeah she is.
>>
>>580093938
If they are too good, that's all the more reason to put them in the jammers so they don't just play the game for you. I don't think that will be the case though, some of the demo footage we have has dialogue of them running low on special weapons, but I don't see as many things getting killed as such judicious usage would imply. Maybe they are killing things and I'm a blind retard, but it sure would be nice if we could tell for sure by having the little kill notifications pop up on the HUD like they do in 5, 0, and 6. Either way, active ESM/ESM usage is much more noticeable and impactful, so for practical purposes, I can't imagine there'll be much point in putting them in anything besides the jammers.
>>
>>580096152
*ESM/ECM usage, damn, I am a blind retard, I proofread that post like three times.
>>
>>580096152
I think a 3:1 - 4:1 ratio of player kills to ally kills would be healthy for this type of game as it's enough to show that allies ~do things~ while not really playing the game for you.
Time limits generally do a decent job of balancing allies as you can't just wait for them to slowly kill everything. They also give you an incentive to equip your allies with non-ECM weapons. If ranks are based on speed as well as score(like they were in AC7) then having your allies kill the occasional target that would've taken you 30 seconds to reach and shoot down is a good enough reason to give them QAAMs/LAAMs/LASMs/LAGMs instead of just ECM/ESM.
>>
>>580095207
FAN hates Sicario (and mercs generally) because they kill for profit. He’s made it pretty clear on his twitter that his morality preference is Feds <— Chudcadians <——- Mercs on purely anti-capitalist terms.
>>
>>580097676
How reliably will they actually hit things, assuming they bother to use their special weapons at all instead of randomly deciding to go fly in circles around what they're targeting instead of killing it? The fact we have three wingmen again makes me think they're going to have the same problem 5's have in being allowed to kill things but only every once in a while. Pixy and Shamrock were a lot more reliable, but there's only one of them, and in Shamrock's game in particular, there's always a fuckton of shit to kill. Given the option of trying to send 8's wingmen to maybe kill something off in the distance every so often or just having them be your EW bitches so you can kill everything yourself with buffed missiles, that won't be much contest in 99% of cases. We won't know for sure how exactly ESM works until we get our hands on the game ourselves (unless one of the influencers that got to try some of the missions has talked about it and I missed it), but I think odds are good the Prowler and Growler will be the best wingman planes by far.
>>
>>580099421
You only need 1 ESM slave(ECM is for bitches, just dodge missiles lmao). The rest of the squadron can be equipped with missiles that can kill things. Even if they can't go off on their own they can still fire the occasional SAAM/LAAM/LAGM/whatever and kill a target while your own missiles are reloading, which saves times since you won't need to do an extra pass.
Depending on how their AI works it might be better to equip your wingmen with A2G missiles since those will basically never miss.

A Frenchman wrote an essay in 1967 that argued that any interpretation of a work supported by the text itself is just as valid as the author's own canon. Ironically he later claimed that his work was misinterpreted but nobody cared since they were using their own interpretation fully supported by the actual text.

You shouldn't give a fuck about what FAN thinks if it's not actually in the game

https://www.invenglobal.com/articles/25646/kazutoki-kono-ace-combat-8-will-have-the-largest-scale-in-franchise-history

Couldn't the MQ-101 swarms destroy the land battleship before it even gets to see the Arsenal bird?
I know it has quadcopter drone swarms for defence but I'm not sure how well those would hold up against like 50 MQ-101s.
>>
>>580158467
A lot of people can't seem to believe it either. I think most of those went into the cutscenes while the actual mission count is over 30.
Boy I sure wish I'm wrong.
>>
I should probably stay away from the thread until release.
>>
>>580160083
I'm 95% sure the game will not have 52 or more flyable missions. But counting cutscenes where you walk around the ship seems weird since then you could also count all the zoom calls in Electrosphere as cutscenes and you'd still need 52 missions(assuming that you get 1 cutscene after every mission).
Or maybe Kono's getting a bit senile in his old age and counted the International version's 36 missions(having 37+ missions in AC8 would also be insane but I find that slightly more believable).
>>
>>580159285
A MQ-101 swarm might work if they are armed with anti ship missiles to overwhelm the ship's point defenses but we never really see them armed with those and we don't know how the landship's strangerealnium armor performs, it might be protected enough against a generic air launched ashm like the harpoon
The arsenal bird could maybe damage it with its ventral laser but would need to go over the horizon to hit it and would be well within railgun range
I think the AB is more of an absolute air superiority superweapon kind of thing and is just not really equipped for that kinda of job

Let me provide some additional clarification regarding the recent interview in Shanghai.

When I mentioned that Ace Combat 8 features "the largest-scale campaign in the series," the "scale" here doesn't just refer to a comparison of the number of missions.
ACE8 has a linear campaign structure, but it's packed to the brim with a wealth of missions, cutscenes, cinematics, and various other elements.

I was referring to the overall volume and experience of the campaign, including all of those aspects, as "the largest scale in the series."

Some parts of the explanation may have been a bit hard to convey, so let me supplement it once more.

The campaign for ACE COMBAT 8: WINGS OF THEVE has received quite a lot of our focus and effort. Please look forward to it

It was already said to have double what AC7 has about a month ago. That would put the mission count at about 40. That sounds a bit more realistic than 50.

>>580163672
A classic carrier vs battleship matchup. If the battleship can get in range it wins, otherwise the carrier's air wing sinks it before it can even find the carrier.
>>580163825
Thanks buddy, that makes more sense. So it was definitely a mistranslation.
Honestly I would be a bit disappointed if the final mission count is around 25, satisfied if it's around 27-30, and very happy if it's 32+.
>>580164069
I think low-mid 30s is more realistic. "Double what AC7 has" could just mean it has roughly double the content which you could achieve by just making more "big" missions without doubling the total mission count(since AC7 has quite a few short missions).
If the campaign is like 5 short missions that act as semi-tutorials, 5 short gimmick missions, 20 big meaty missions, and 2 giant missions to cap it all off it would be double the content of AC7, if not more than double.
>>
Is simply telling us how many campaign missions there are some sort of taboo spoiler?

With less than a month to go, why can't they just say how much it has?
>>
>>580164415
>Is simply telling us how many campaign missions there are some sort of taboo spoiler?
Yes, some people would consider that a spoiler. I think experiencing the campaign for the first time without knowing the mission count is generally a better experience and makes you more excited about big developments(because you don't know whether they will be resolved in 3 missions or 10).

what if it's linear to a certain point? Like 30-35 missions that everyone experiences on their first playthrough, but branches the next 3-5 depending on what you do/choose in game?

That actually is the preferred strategy on Ace. Keep your speed up and as they maneuver, mimic their direction and come back around. A 270 degree intercept with a loop in it. "Personally, I'm on Team Kate Evans, so I didn't expect Tasha to become this popular worldwide.
Work on Tasha started relatively early, and she was originally designed by a different artist. She is also the character that took the longest to finalize. Her story and direction were already set, but we kept modifying various aspects afterward, making her the character we refined the longest during development. That's why inside the development team, we jokingly call her 'the most expensive character.' (Laughs)"
"I think elements like her personality, outfit, and especially her sense of fashion in wearing military attire so uniquely happened to fit current trends well, which contributed to all the attention she received."

There's a lot you could add to a roster while also having ways to differentiate them, fictional and otherwise. I'd love to have the Combine helicopter from Half Life 2 in one because it's design is sick. And you could have sci-fi VTOL gunships as the super helos too. The problem I have when I'm brainstorming what it'd look like is how to structure it. Most helos can't refuel midflight but they can usually land on carriers. Maybe a land carrier thing could work. Helos just don't have the range fight jets do. But you could always imply that your team moves from base to base between missions. There's a game called Operation Thunderstrike that has you fly a fictional super helicopter and it has a pretty good variety of missions. Been meaning to replay it.

God I fucking hate being an ideas guy sometimes, none of the stuff I come up with in my head's ever gonna see the light of day. I tried picking up Blender again but I just lost interest quickly. Maybe if I ever win the lottery or start making fuck you money from a job I'll just fund a whole ass game studio and tell people what to make with the caveat that I get credit for having the idea.
>>

Sick. I was thinking of mission or setting variety. I just got done replaying Long Day in 7 and a canyon area would go great. Almost like a maze if you want to go in low and it would harken back to the Soviet-Afghan war. Jungle environments for that 'Nam appeal and a megalopolis. Imagine dogfighting enemy helicopters or dodging SAMs using skyscrapers as cover.

>>
>>580253961
AC7 launched with Denuvo but they removed it in an update a few years after release. Maybe it'll happen here too.
>>
>>580255482
Honestly at this point I'm starting to think Denuvo actively PAYS developers to use it, and they obviously recognise that it's a waste of resources so they ditch it as soon as the contract's up.
>>
>>580255597
It's not that, it's because Denuvo is a subscription thing so devs need to keep paying if they want to keep it. At release they think it's worth it because it forces enough people who'd prefer to pirate to buy the game instead. After a few years most of those potential pirates have already bought it, so its job is done and there's no need to keep spending money on it.
>>
>>580255597
Don't be silly. The point of Denuvo isn't to prevent piracy forever, just long enough to cover the relevant sales period (first few months after release). It's doing exactly what it was designed to do. It's probably being ditched because it's not worth spending extra to cover the game after 1-2 years or so when the game has likely already been discounted to less than 30% of its original price.

Yeah, I hope this is just endgame plane + low difficulty and that with whatever plane you can actually acquire this early + expert/ace difficulty(whichever you can select on your first run) they'll put up at least as much of a fight as Rot/Grun/Indigo.
>>
>>580275550
The first one he kills has terrible ai so it's not the plane being overpowered. It just flies in a straight line and gets HPAA'd like 10 seconds after he fires because it doesn't even try to dodge.
Maybe higher difficulties will fix it but different planes won't.

Yeah, he's also taking very little damage from those missile hits(looks like 6 shots to kill) so that confirms it's on easy.

>>
>>580347216
It looks like a combination of a variable sweep wing and a a variable camber wing, which is strange because one is used for very high speeds and the other to control lower speeds, the only thing that comes to mind that would use both principles is on very very high altitudes, where air density is an isue for conventional wing designs.

its not a variable sweep wing or a variable camber wing though? the only thing that is variable is the wingtip. when at low speed, the wingtips are raised to provide decreased induced drag, at high speed it drops down to assist the compression lift effect

Phantomworks likes to be funny and hide the planform of their projects on patches. They did it with YF-188G/Bird of Prey, and ostensibly this was the patch for the guys who worked on the Aerospace Innovation Initiative demonstrator. If you look at the scarf it has at least a passing resemblance to what was filmed, and also lines up somewhat with official renders of F-47. It’s effective parity with AC5. It’s fine.

>>
>>580356202

>>

>>
>>580356202

>>
>>580358506
its like, do 6fags even realize that their special baby only came with 15 missions and 15 aircraft, if PA pulled that shit today you'd never hear the end of it from these people
>>
>>580358949
Worth saying that if the comparison is something like AC3, a lot of AC6 or 7 missions with a checkpoint would be two or 3 AC3 missions. Like AC3 has a mission where you fly through a canyon and that's kind of it. Next mission is a big fight on a Upeo superfloat. That's about equal content to Cape Rainy which is "just one" mission where you fly through a canyon and then attack a base.
>>
>>580359340
I know. To be honest I never expected branching paths like 3 in the first place, always felt like wishful thinking to me.
>>
>>580359526
worth noting here that there is still some form of branching narrative, in that you can have the option of deciding whether to kill or spare certain minor named characters which will have an effect on later missions
>>
>>580352915
YF-23 was too kino to live
YF-32 was too funny to live
>>
I think the main thing to worry about is the performance. I have a feeling the game might run like shit on anything but high end hardware, and anyone that's around minimum specs is gonna have a bad time even at minimum settings. We'll have to wait and see though, maybe it's more optimized than I thought.
>>
>>580359526
Branching missions are cool but they're kind of just not a trend any more. There was a time when every game was doing it and it was a big back-of-the-box selling point. I don't think most gamers care as much now that there's open world games with a little more dynamic decisions. And developers see it as a lot of effort into missions a significant portion of people won't even play since they do one, maybe two playthroughs.
I did really like how Zero did it though, with different ace squadrons coming to fight you. That adds a little variety without being a lot of work to implement.

>>580164276
I did not expect this to get resolved so quickly. 30 missions it is so just barely bigger than AC5 in terms of mission count.
Hopefully it has fewer awful gimmick missions where nothing fucking happens and you either kill re-spawning waves or literally just fly around waiting for radio messages to finish so the mission can progress.
I'm expecting the first 3-4 missions to be very simple ones that you can beat in under 5 minutes, basically just a prolonged tutorial. But that still leaves a lot of room for big meaty missions.

So if we're gonna dick measure over missions, what's the longest Ace Combat campaign?
04 is pretty short.
5 has 27 missions, and 3 of them have an alternate route. Some of those missions are short though.
Zero has 18 missions, and very minor replay differences in that you can fight different aces depending on your knight/mercenary alignment.
6 has the longest missions but only 15 of them.
Assault horizon has the longest single turret sequence in gaming, I wish it was shorter.
7 has 20 missions, plus the 3 dlc. It felt just a little short overall.
Electrosphere (JP version) has 53 missions but they're all shorter, and its a PS1 game, there's less going on in general.
>Wings of Theve might well be poised to be the longest Ace Combat campaign at 29 missions + prologue
>>
>>580406247
I never finished Ass Hor, and the answer is definitely not 4 or Zero.
I think 5 is longer for a first time run including cutscenes. But if you are shit at 6 and just barely pass the missions with allies that barely survive, well then that might be above Zero and 4 and close to 5. It really depends on your playstyle. If we include dlc from 7, then we include operation Katina from 5.
>>
>>580405248
>the game has some planes
>the game has some missions that you fly planes in
OH NOES WHAT A HUGE SPOILER, THE GAME IS WORTHLESS NOW!
>>
>>580409302
>operation Katina
But those are super short arcade levels you can play a full run in 15ish minutes. The only one with quicker levels than that was Air Combat 22
>>
>>580406247
I think in terms of both total play time and total flight time AC5 takes the longest to complete. AC3(all routes) has a ton of missions but they're very short.

And this isn't necessarily a good thing, AC5 has a lot of missions that are like twice or three times as long as they should've been.
>>
>>580410362
Yes very true. The point is what do we include or not. And do we consider the length to be an /aceg/ run or nugget run? I think nugget run w cutscenes it’s 5 then closely 7. But a nugget could snail pace 6 into second place.
>>
>>580411382
Surely 3 beats 7, especially without DLC. The missions might be short but each one comes with cutscenes, briefing, and debriefing that's standard length for Ace Combat. And there's 52 of them.
>>
You know since 8 is shaping up to be the new gen game with the most content, that means 9 is gonna be shorter and tighter.
And then 10 is gonna suck ass, Story wise at least.

I've done two runs of 3 and counting the time I've spent watching cutscenes or reading log entries it took me about 2.5-3 hours each time.
>>
>>580419153
So by that logic it's 12-15 hours for all 5 routes, which still beats AC7.
>>
Achievements don't reveal much.

One thing that it did is that it confirms what a lot of buddies thought there's at least one space mission like the one in 3 and the other is that the war ends before the game does so it seems there's a 0 situation where the last few missions are about something other than the opening conflict.

Show off more OCs and it all seems pretty good from the outside at least.
>>
Ac7 campaign is less than 4 hours
And I still have well over 100 hours played
I'm just saying that it's value will not be known until we play the game ourselves.

the worst pre-launch psychosis I’ve ever suffered
>>
>>580422695
The gap between early and full release is gonna kill me but I'm too broke and stingy to want to spend another $20
>>
>>580422695
It's pretty much the only upcoming release I'm truly excited for
I was interested in Blood of the Dawnwalker too. Interested, not excited.
>>
>>580426185
I literally haven't been hyped for any game since Elden Ring until AC8
>>
>>580425160
it's gonna be early cancer? wtf?
>>
>>580426284
Yeah I can probably count the new releases I've been truly hyped for in the last few years with just one hand, and I might not use all fingers
I guess AC7 (it was the game that made me finally join Steam) ER, Armored Core 6, Silksong...I think that might be it
>>
I really hate the way they're handling pre-order bonuses this time around compared to 7. All I really want is a physical steelbook and the new edition of Aces at War but to get those I need to buy the 150 dollar edition that's sold out. This sucks. I guess the important thing is getting it on a disc because this is a game I absolutely want a physical copy of.
>>
>>580422695
Most hyped I've been for a AAA "mainstream" (using that loosely) game in a long, long time. Maybe since Skyrim even. In fact the last game in general I was this hyped for before launch must have been... Factorio Space Age, maybe? They don't come along often.

It releases September 29th for the goodest goys and on Oct 2nd for everyone else.
>>
>>580427519
I hope that early access doesn't include multiplayer too.
>>
>>580426373
Yes. I'll already have all the P2W stuff by the time everyone starts playing getting MVP. Welcome back Infinity.
>>
>>580427690
It absolutely will. You just have to accept the fact that by the time you get the game and finish the singleplayer campaign everyone else will already be flying maxed out superplanes in multiplayer.

we're fighting NEMO as the final boss

On the bright side that means I likely won't be designated as the Ace for my team so I can dick around getting my participation trophy while the whales kill each other.

I'm a conflict-averse pussy so you'll only see me in the Co-op Warfare when I hit it by accident.
That is all.
>>
>>580431170
I've been wondering about this as well but we don't have context for when this scene happens yet. It could be something that looks like a missing man formation, it could be in memorial of Cope and Theve himself, or that Hornet breaking formation is a goddamn drone again and this is a Journey Home/Faceless Soldier situation.
>>
Also I was looking up the formation to see if that matched up with it, and found this absolutely cursed memorial that features Raptors with one vertical stab.
>>
Remember it's not about the plane or your rank it's about being engaged in a knife fight when a third guy flies in from nowhere and hits you with HVAA/SASM

I'm going to exclusively use LAAMs while flying as far away from the action and targetting players who are clearly already engaged in a dogfight then smugly tell people I'm doing "Boom and Zoom" high level energy preservation tactics.

I have a chrome FB-22 build with LAAMs, damage, homing, range, stealth coating, and anti-stealth radar for this express purpose, yes.
>>
>>580439296
You don't want the homing, it fucks with the "super homing bug".
>>
>>580411382
Just started playing AC games for the first time (0 flight game experience) the past couple weeks, played 4,5,0,6 and 7 and watched all the cutscenes. My playtimes were about
4 - 7 hrs
5 - 10 hrs
0 - 3.5 hrs (Knight if that matters, no idea)
6 - 8 hrs
7 - 9 hrs
>>
>>580441329
Some of those seem a bit long to me. Did you start increasing the difficulty as you played the later games resulting in more restarts?
>>
>>580442592
I crashed a lot in 4 and 5 at the end of missions when I was out of ammo trying to gun stuff down. 6 I did almost entirely in an attacker so I was kinda slow and 7 I actually started first, quit halfway through to go play the others first then restarted 7 from scratch so I'm not entirely certain on my true playtime.
>>
>>580442592
>>580442941
I also didn't know about High G turns in 6 until I accidentally did it during chandelier*
>>
>>580443074
I didn't know about it until after I finished 6 and 7.
>>
>>580443639
Doesn't 7 explicitly tell you what high G turns are and how to use them in like mission 3? How could you possibly miss that?
>>
>>580445192
I get hyperfocused when I'm playing these games, I don't notice anything that the characters say or anything that pops up on screen.
>>
Baking is on standby
>>
>>580440230
Huh, I know about the 1s turn rate penalty but I figured the homing parts would just buff the ridiculous super homing once the penalty wears off.
>>
>>580446476
Super homing only happens at like 10km+ range, it's related to total missile flight time.
LAAMs essentially go from not homing at all to homing pretty well to "super homing" at extreme ranges.
The "super homing" bug makes the missile do ridiculous shit like fly sideways. It's basically the level of homing that the sat missiles have in M9.
>>
>>580432204
Its double cursed a single tail F-22 being used at Pearl.
Don't tell me this is what the Navy was planning to build before the Cold War ended and they got hit with huge budget cuts canceling that plane.
>>
>>580447445
I know you wanna run max range and fire from right at the edge of lock-on for that reason, but homing parts just add some percentage to the turn rate. Shouldn't it just let them do even more ridiculous shit?
>>
>>580449386
No because the bug relies on specific breakpoints that you can't hit with the homing parts.
>>
>>580449479
Huh. Guess it's getting swapped out for either flight time or some MSL buff next time I actually feel like ruining everybody's fun in multiplayer.
>>
>>580451048
It (probably) won't work in AC8 though.
