Babylon.js is more of an engine, and company driven and owned by Microsoft where as Three.js is a renderer with tons of open source plugins that you do pretty much everything in code, making it way better for AI. It had a ton of people making small projects for it, for YEARS but with the shitty webGL.

So now webGPU is out and powerful as fuck, there's tons of example code everywhere of how to make cool gimic things for the AI to learn, all that's left is putting it together. That's why it's a vibecoders best friend now. Plus the new TSL language is easy to use and tweak, especially for AI.

To each their own. The real money is whoever figures out how to make a vibe coding kit like Hytopia with an editor like Roblox so retards can make games and make crypto bux on them. But the Hyptopia crew mismanaged their own money and fucked everyone despite how cool the games were and the cool shaders people were making for it. I'd show you but they banned me for calling them retarded.

make something easy to understand, easy to play, with zero effort onboarding, and then learn content creation strategies to trigger social media algorithms
this is the most reliable self sufficient procedure, if you're capable of making a widely accessible game with viable appeal the only hurdle you have is figuring out how to get a couple viral posts on short form content platforms

https://youtu.be/NYhoRv2HEPs
figure out how to make MVPs and then study these types of videos
>>
eventually you realize the only reason games go viral is because they're fundamentally interesting
indie devs obsess over art and mechanics when in reality all gamers want is explicit relatable fantasy

you need to understand why a work of art is preserved.

It's not a random reason.

Works of art survive because their mastery of the technique, and the strong emotional pallethe they convey.

Plus is not enough for technical mastery, It has to be a game that changes people by showcasing them a path towards sofia and virtuosity.

Such works of art also say something deep about human nature and also a message that can guide people of diferent centuries and societies to realize things at diferent stages of their lives.

It's a combination of having something to say about human nature and the skill to present it beautifully and masterfully.

You need to realize there's a reason why rich people spent millions on trying to save masterpieces from nazi germany, many times risking their lifes to do so.
>>
>>579950184
>>579950145
I can think of games that are popular but it's hard to point to a game and call it a masterpiece. Who knows though, I'm sure some games will be remembered.

Not like the Mona Lisa was loved in its time, it's hard to know what will be remembered because it doesn't really have to do with popularity or skill level. Just has to do with whatever society latches onto.

I doubt there's yet a master of the medium.

My issue is that to create such masterworks, you need to understand how to craft something like chess and go.

But also understand the fundamentals of writing, but not enough to write a story well, you also need to read history and philosophy.

Dunno if there's someone at the level of mastery of all gamedev skills but also someone that knows religion, philosophy and history.

Useless blogpost, filter "days left" to never see this again.
Late breakfast / early lunch. It's easier to get by on 2 meals a day like this, and I have a feeling I need to start getting used to that. Even good news on the economy gives me anxiety because increased earnings for the workforce means eventually higher prices and I keep earning less and less.
Speaking of money, 55 days left until I run out of it. I owe 40 hours of work. Yesterday I had one of those cool software pro moments when I wanted to add a feature and realized I already made allowances for it months ago, so instead of 3-4 hours it took me 15 minutes. And then I made up for it by wasting 3 hours in Blender making a prop I could have downloaded for free.

i think the best ideas have the lowest motivation cause they have alternatives.
e.g. a porn game with 3d models (even with low poly stuff) would be a good idea
problem: you can just watch porn or play other porn games, so why make it for yourself?

or dungeon crawler, rts, card game. all have potential. problem? why make an rts for yourself when you can play stacraft, bar, aoe, empire earth, c&c etc.

ofc when you only chase money and you don't bother playing it yourself its not a problem. but if you wanna make something you want to play you'll always feel the urge to play the existing game instead of making yours.

>GPT-6 Astra recreated the Palace of Fine arts in Blender.

>This is favorite building in San Francisco because it was built for the World's Fair in 1914 where the steam locomotive and telephone were showed off. It was a time when technology gave us all a deep sense of optimism for the future.

>I feel like some of that sense has been lost since, but I hope models like astra can help restore it, and push us towards a more hopeful future.

>Astra autonomously researched and found hundreds of photos of the Palace of Fine Arts, iterated on the Blender scene, rendered intermediate frames, and compared them to the its database of reference images. It even found an old scan of a document from the Library of Congress that described the dimensions for some of the Palace's columns.

>I steered it a few times, but I didn't really need to (mostly to correct things like the color of the sky, and minor clipping issues) as I saw some intermediate frames come in. The bulk of the run was done overnight. I woke up this morning to the rendered video sitting on my desktop.

I don't think enough, or get bored enough. my internet addiction has raped me of any cognitive competence. When I had a job, a miserable job, i had hours to spend, not ruminating, but allowing the processes of my mind to complete as I accepted hours of boredom. It gave me a hunger as well, along with a sense of clarity and urgency to get to my goals. It was good being depressed about my situation.

Now that Ive been unemployed for 9 months, I got to have everything I wanted. All the time in the world to just consoom. It killed my hunger and i lost all time to the fog. it was a huge waste of time. I'll get a parttime job soon out of pure necessity, and I expect that it'll aid me because my life without restraints makes me useless. i have to be a servant to something, bound to external obligations.

WIth that being said, I'm going to semi quit the internet (specific rules i am bound to) and accept my new life even though it will be incredibly painful. I have to live as a servant and remember the point. dont call me gay, this is my strategy to revive my drive not just for my game but for my life

In order to make it you have to be either very inspired or extremely uninspired - with nothing in between. You can only make it either if you only make something extraordinary and unique and execute it very well, or if you copy something that exists and is popular and improve upon the idea. also price it correctly and make absolutely sure the buyers know what they're getting before buying it on steam or your ratings will tank. Underperformance and unmet expectations = negative reviews.

Is this too fast? It used to be a lot faster, but I slowed it down significantly. But some people are telling me it's still too fast.
There's not really any "end" to this game; you're just supposed to keep going up as long as possible. You start out with three boosts. Once you're in the air, the rockets will push you upwards and the little plus symbols will restore one boost. The magnets pull other items towards you. All the items are placed randomly.

Alright, here it is with all the vertical movement slowed down by about a third. I'm definitely gonna have to change the way items spawn (I'm thinking more items overall, but fewer plusses and more rockets), and the way the magnets draw items towards you. I also added a little yellow spark animation for when you touch a rocket, but you still move away too fast to see it, which is kinda disappointing.

That's why I'm excited about Astra's advanced 3D modeling capabilities. I already have enemy spells that physically interact with the dice—smacking them off the board, blowing them away, or sending them bouncing around wildly.

Hopefully, Astra will let me take that a step further and evolve the stock dice game board itself, adding 3D elements that change to match the environment or specific boss battle. You can manually roll and throw the dice with the mouse. The "Roll" button is basically a holdover from the earliest builds, before I added manual dice rolling. Opponent about to complete a Four of a Kind? Throw your dice at their held dice on the table and knock them out of position, screwing up their score.

how?
you look at AI writing style and think "mmm yes I want to replicate this"

that said the post doesn't really look AI it's just there were a billion alternatives to an em dash and people only suddenly started saying "um actually I use the em dash all the time" once the AI started using it which is weird, because again they're not writing AI posts but I never saw anyone use it before outside some weird fringe cases.

whoever earns money pays taxes. to make this crazy idea easier to understand, just imagine a GPU server rack as a new type of person, both a worker and a consumer. it consumes different goods than human workers and gets what it needs directly from its employer instead of getting paid money and buying goods elsewhere. other than that, it's perfectly capable of doing what a lot of current human workers are doing, including the role of a consumer.

Artfags have long seen the writing on the wall and have never held any real hope that they could turn illustration into a sustainable career. >>579989537
My former college roommate and studio art major has a sustainable career waiting tables. It's not impossible, but you probably need to be in the top 0.1% of illustrators to break even. Meanwhile, a top 2-4% indie gamedev can at least hope to make minimum wage for their time spent.

99% of these are the type that don't belong here at all. Funny how jobs like "bra model" for a clothing magazine can 100% restrict men, but "game developer" for a game company cannot restrict 100% woman. My only work around for this is contractor -> employee pipeline. How can they sue me if all my employees are only hired directly without an interview process?

Really pisses me off. I wouldn't be surprised if these women had less qualified experience yet got the job over a guy. Hell even at an equivalent level of experience the woman probably got it even if the guy expressed true interest in the companies games. Just look at these, these don't belong here. They need to have their rights stripped and tossed in the kitchen.

This is a pretty smart way to get around the issue of AI art being basically a generated "autocompleted image" which often carries AI artifacts with it. Just give AI control of the pen and force it to draw stroke by stroke.
That being said its usage will depend on how expensive it'll be, token wise. I imagine it takes more than regular image generation.

what many don't understand is that what makes us "intelligent" the way we understand it is not just within us but within the language we use and how it gets interpreted by others. AI doesn't have to be self aware or sentient or sapient or whatever. those are just words we made up to describe our subjective experience. from the outside, if it can do anything you can do, what's the difference between intelligence and artificial intelligence? a difference that doesn't make a difference isn't a difference

Easy, opinion. I have a lot of opinion on art and games, I have things I hate and love about games, and an LLM that can reason through things it sees simply does not, it has the "correct" opinion, i.e. some kind of truth it had to reason through, unless it's grok and influenced by israel for example. This is why it's the century of the idea guy.

It's because most artists are hacks who aren't good enough to make it with their art on its artistic value. They sell their labor as an artist for corporations that exploit them or work in the freelancing pits barely making do. That's exactly the sort of artist that is getting replaced and that's why they are freaking out.

It is the high tier concept artists, designers, animators and art directors who aren't going anywhere. Their efforts are still required because AI can't replace them as it does not have a soul. It can only imitate, not create same is true for most artists lmao

tldr after writing the post: what needs/urges/experiences/fantasies are not very much represented in gaming?

i keep wondering what makes me play games. i realized i naively think it's "number go up" or other progression or gameplay or multiplayer or whatever. but when i think about it, if that'd be it, why don't i play all the games that have this?
i was wondering if maybe it has something to do with psychology, because i'm noticing that what appeals to someone is highly individual. by psychology i mean that something triggers you.
i mean why do i have 0% motivation to play league of legends, yet others are so addicted they can't stop? why are they addicted to something that i can't even bring myself to do?
it can't be this "perfect formula" that attracts everybody and is "addictive". it has to be something that isn't universal.
maybe that's why genres exists. someone reacts more to cozy feelings, someone more to ultra dark hardcore games, someone to sports games, someone to building something.

but somehow nothing attracts me anymore. i have no urge to build anything, i have no need for comforting games, i have no need for competition, i have no need for horror/thrill. so it seems like there are other things that might just be missing from the spectrum of gaming currently? last game that caught me was House Party, but that games dialogue tree is absolutely fucked (one mistake and you can't have sex with them). "interacting with people" is definitely an urge that barely any game can satisfy at all.
>>
>>579997063
How is it a captured audience? What does that even mean? There's more choice in games than ever. And who shut down? Reminder, you were talking about publishers, not the studios.

66 games took 80% of all playtime in 2023 and five of them took 27%, and Versus Evil and Humble Games were publishers that got wiped out, while Ubisoft just posted a €1.5bn loss and sold its three biggest franchises to Tencent to stay alive.
>>
>>579997350

>>

I don't know about shut down but many major publishers are laying off employees, scaling back releases, completely abandoning half finished AAA projects, etc.

Basically only Rockstar and Nintendo are "okay" right now while everyone else is struggling. A publisher I used to work for has been losing 10s to 100s of millions of dollars yearly lately.

Tightening everything together. Gameplay loop exists in data now, JSON driving everything... Even the tiles have metadata... Random encounter is deterministic based on zone enemy formations, formations declared in data, enemy spawn zones determined authorially on room design so various formations can be tricky to deal with...

MOBAs are practically a team sport. Everyone has a specific role in the team and for the most part people need to be on a similar level or it falls apart. Then it's combined with this meta gaming of the nugamer and you get a cancerous experience only the most retarded can enjoy after a dozen hours or so. Example: Deadlock was amazingly fun when it was new because nobody knew how to exploit the game. As soon as people figured it out it became cancerous and fun was no longer allowed. You either learned all the little meta tricks and abused the hell out of them or you suffered trying to play against the people that did that. This is true of basically any competitive game nowadays. You can't play them for fun anymore.

>somehow nothing attracts me anymore
I have had similar feels. It's hard to find games that really grab me in the way that some games used to. In terms of my gamedev journey I have a desire to make games that give you a feel of adventure but at the same time modern "adventure" games like BotW don't appeal to me at all. It has been difficult to figure out how to convert that desire for adventure into an experience in a game. I had this image of some anon's thoughts about it and I think he's pretty on point but it's not exactly easy to convert that into a game.
>>
i think replayability is more about feeling at home in a game rather than having more content to play or more problems to solve. the reason people still play pokemon isn't because there's more to do, but because they always enjoy starting a new game again and replaying the almost exact experience again.

i mean, why do we come back to /agdg/ again every day? wouldn't it be more fun to browse all the other threads? somehow no, we rather come back to the familiar, something we can relate to, even if it's the same thing over and over and over.

Am I the only one who hates rewatching or replaying things? 99% of the stuff I like I never rewatch, the only thing that confuses me is that 1% where I will rewatch it, not 40 times like most people do with the movies they like, but for example I rewatched breaking bad once, and re:zero, and smiling friends. But other than the 1% of media I just hate replaying or rewatching
>>
>>579992731
My point still stands, btw. Only artists and people who have good taste are able to see what's wrong here. Since AI sloppers don't have the experience, they can't calibrate their AI to mimic a real artist, so we will always be able to tell.
>>
>>579998875
I wouldn't say you're the "only person" but lots of people enjoy rewatching and replaying things. There is a nature reaction in the brain to enjoy what is predictable and a lot of people just like it - provides comfort for a lot of people. That said, there is also enjoyment in the unpredictable obviously.

Do you listen to a song only once?
>>
>>579998371
>but because they always enjoy starting a new game again and replaying the almost exact experience again.
There's definitely people who enjoy that. Even with myself I'd say there's some of that in the games that I play.

I think the "roguelite replayability" is a different aspect. Games like that are specifically designed to give you differing experiences but they are also about learning the extent of those options and deducing how to win the game repeatably within its rules. Deckbuilders are a great example of this. Part of the experience is learning the card system in such depth that you can plan out various winning decks based on what the game will provide you on a given run. That is quite different from the replayability of Pokemon where it's more about using different Pokemon to beat the game or beating Dark Souls with a different weapon.

>>579998875
It's different for everyone. I have a couple shows that I have rewatched a almost a dozen times but it is rare to add one to that list. With how shit modern tv is I don't think there will be any additions.
>>
>>579999005
that would matter if real artists were the audience, but they're not
>>
>>579998875
my point was. i keep observing that i only replay games where i liked the art, the world building, the soundtrack, the vibe, the feeling. i enjoyed the challenge in rimworld or zomboid or oxygen not included or kenshi. but i don't want to replay any of those. kinda same with skyrim. in skyrim i can't stand the world building, all just snow and gray, it's fucking depressing. or i can't stand stardew valley, cause it's just a weird casual comfy vibe, but nothing that feels exciting to me visually.
but e.g. there's this one old mmorpg that i keep playing over and over on private servers and everytime i join it feels good to hear the soundtrack, to see the starter town, to hear the spell sound effects, to see the gear, to see the level zones, just everything is artistically appealing to me. the direct input into my senses is causing somewhat of a consonance. e.g. i could never stand world of warcraft, it might have the gameplay and content, but i can't stand looking at generic tolkien fantasy in comic style. i just hate it.

but what do you make out of that? if you are a game designer you cannot gamedesign around that. if i hate the art and sounds and music and world building/level design, i'm just out.

same reason i don't get addicted to cs2, but i was addicted to cs 1.6. in cs 1.6 the sound effects, the simple art, the silence when nothing happened, the unreal tournament announcer sounds on public servers, it was just a vibe i wanted to come back to.

i know nostalgia is also part of it. but it feel like the important thing here is that aesthetics and art direction also matter a lot for replayability.

Took me 4 days to learn harmony by testing most scales, modes and chord combinations.

For all that effort, I learned the following.

The circle of fourths is mostly useless except for Eb, Dm, Fm on the left side.
Most of it has a dark feeling.
The circle of fifths has a brighter feeling, specially G and E and F.
G and Am and F and C are so common they don't have a particular feeling.
C and B sounds great, but Bb has a metallic sound.
C and E are great and sound like orange.
C and A and C and F#m sounds like color blue.
C and Dm sounds like desaturated red.
C and G are the color of the sunny day.
C and B sounds like yellow.

upper left side of the circle sounds like fantasy.
upper right sounds to happyness.
bottom left sounds dark.
bottom right sounds to romance.

Dorian mode sounds to rain.
Ionian sounds like generic white light.
Mixolydian sounds quirky, funny.
Phrygian sounds like rock, metal, black metal.
Locrian sounds espiritual.
Aeolian sounds sad and melancholic.

Oriental sounds to china.
In Sen sounds chinese but falsetto.
Arabic sounds middle easterner.
Pentatonic is great to make smooth melodies.
>>
>>580002265
The problem isn't just about being good vs bad, it's that with increased competition the bar for what's good keeps moving. In a an oversaturated supply unconstrained market like this, being merely in the top 5% is not good enough for more than a minimum wage. And I'm sorry I can't be the top 3% gamedev, I can't be the top 3% of anything

i have my epiphany. games are art. art style matters. beauty matters. aesthetics matter. proportions matter. world building matters. architecture matters. fashion matters. music matters. font matters.
the reason i don't enjoy games is cause western artists suck. the problem is that the games are ugly. too much flat design, too much abstract comic/anime style, too much generic fantasy.

appreciation for beauty is not superficiality, it is valuing goodness. valuing purity, holiness and truthfulness.

a life without beauty is a life of suffering. a life without beauty is a life without any inspiration. beauty must be the highest priority.

one must conquer ugliness every day. meaning comes from fighting for something. meaning comes from recognizing and creating value.

Artists spent the past 4 years guilt tripping you into not using AI and meanwhile gamers were buying games with AI and you refused to use it. You had 4 years to use it and get ahead of the competition but you didn't.

The bar has always been moving - AI or not; devs constantly had to get more experience and ideas to stand out, tech advanced, more elaborate games kept getting released, as did the number of releases on Steam. Do you think you could release beta Minecraft in 2026 and it would appeal to people? Do you think the number of games released on Steam going from 1400 in 2014 to 15400 in 2024 did not make it harder to compete with others? AI is just another factor that raises the bar as did many other things in the past decade.

It's based on the intervals to the root chord.
In this case C.

even then, the fourth sections has diferent slight flavours of dark.

So doing a I IV V in C will feel generic, meanwhile doing it on the bottom left will feel generic, but darker.

My advice is to use your ears more than what the theory says.
