the problem with retail is that its not about the world anymore.you get through an entire expansions story content and hit max level in a day. everyone is flying 1000 mph so getting across a zone has no more feel of topology or difficulty, you can skip all the mobs, cross whole continents in minutes. mobs are killed in seconds anyways and even on the worst solo classes its still trivial to pull 3 or 4 mobs at a time without taking threatening damage. so you basically skip most of the zones and walking, enemies in the open world have become trivially easy, nothing in the open world offers rewards, and all of this culminates in players just not being out in the world of warcraft. everyone is huddled in the cities interacting with impersonal queue machines, or going to some endgame currency farm in a small area where you grind arbitrary currency for a vendor. its not about exploring continents and helping locals with their problems, its about funneling people into endless hampster wheels of systems upon systems to farm subscription fees.

In terms of world content the only thing you probably care about is getting your Sparks of Tides for crafting gear, right now we can have 6 Sparks and it takes 2 to craft one item (4 for a 2 handed weapon). There's a catch-up so you should be able to loot most of them just doing pve stuff and then you can also take quests that rewards them, between the weekly quests in Silvermoon and the ones on the Coiled Isle. You can use those sparks with mythic crests to craft three 331 ilvl items, probably want to make a weapon+offhand, a big stat budget item like pants/head/chest/shoulders (whatever slot you can't get a good statted item from easily) then a small slot like bracer/cloak/belt/boots in that order. You want to take the bonus roll token from the great vault and then spend them on bosses once you can do the heroic raid. Which bosses you roll on first is probably on wowhead but casters want to roll on ulatek, melee like coiled altar, healers want ulatek and nekzali. Bonus rolls give you an item one tier higher than the content you're doing so bonus rolling on normal bosses gives heroic gear and rolling on heroic bosses gives mythic gear. Rolling on a mythic boss gives fully upgraded 6/6 mythic gear.

Garrison is the superior Housing system in WoW.
