I just assembled a new Ikea bookcase, and have dedicated a place for my Vita-chan. The OG Vita-kun is still dusty, and I need to clean him up before I move him to live next to my OG Switch. It took three hours of using a boxcutter but I did it. It's finally installed. Do you know how nerve wracking and stressful it is to press hard on a boxcutter to make a faux groove in the screw with two tiny ribbon cables half an inch away? Holy crap was this awful. This would have been a 100% free upgrade if not for this factory-stripped screw I am seething so hard. Just used my nails and that was enough to pry it open, didn't even need a guitar pick or anything. It was well known to have tons of Japanese-exclusive VNs and games that never got ported or translated but you'd be better off going to 2ch or look at Japanese sites for recommendations like that.The main problem with the Vita in current day is that many of the notable games were ported off of it and have objectively better versions elsewhere. Natural Doctrine is best played on a PS4, Lost Dimension is best on PC/PS3, all Vanillaware games are best played on PS4/PS5/PC now, Gravity Rush's only benefit on the Vita is slightly better lighting if I remember right since Remastered messed it up a bit, the Digimon games are all better performing and have extra content on Switch/PC (Like CS CE), etc.

I'll second what was said about oled aging, and front panel is plastic so it can get scratched easily enough and is impractical to replace. Other that that vitas are very sturdy. 1000 also has hall effect sticks so those don't really wear out much unlike modern consoles.

>>580628697i'm the anon who attempted (and failed) a broken plastic post repair like a week ago.vita is pretty easy to tear down, just take your time and don't force things.Make sure to unscrew all 8 screws first (4 on the back, 2 near the charging port, 2 near the accessory port), use a plastic card or something similar to pry the back panel open to not break any tabs, open the back like a door across the edge with the charging port (that's where the battery and touch panel connectors are). Once inside, be gentle around ribbon cables.Do mind that if you have the 3G model, you might need a torx T2 to disassemble the 3G module like on mine picrel. There was an anon earlier with a stripped phillips screw instead, so maybe some units use torx and some use phillips.
Its over.Even when its "working" I verified there is a small area of pixels that icons skip over when dragging them for examplei got fuckedThere is not even really a point in tearing it down, a loose cable wouldnt behave like that and neither would moisture in the screenThats dissapointing.Looking at the bright side, I can stop worrying about scratching it as much since its destined to die anyways, and once it does die I can use the sticks and buttons for another vita because they really are in mint condition on this vita, no stick drift, perfect shoulder buttons
