Happy Anniversary Starfield!!!
https://youtu.be/LFoPZ96D55k?si=Q_alFX3594HkY1GQOkay enough celebrations, where's the dlc??
Big announcement today for sure.
>>5800655083 years, huh. Congrats.I kinda want to replay this game for Shattered Space, everything on a single map is what I love about Beth games, and it was the most fun I had with Starfield by far.I blitzed the Terran Armada dlc, because I didn't care for space, but maybe if I try again and take my fucking time, I can find some value in it.The Tracker's Alliance was great, no idea why I never finished it.>Bethesda confirms more Starborn content for Starfield next yearI never go through the Unity, so I wonder how this will work for players like me? IIRC, you're not really "Starborn" until you go through at least once, right?
>>580018303Space tycoon stuff. Other than that make more stuff for the existing ones
ALSO HAPPY BIRTHDAY>I never go through the Unity, so I wonder how this will work for players like me?Maybe after we find out about the Starborn?
Bethesda made a post, but didn't really share anything new besides confirmation that Starfield still has a future

>>580069029Its probably a questline about the Starborn that'll have lots of post-Unity dialogue options but will still be accessible in NG. I'm curious if they'll gate it behind MQ progress, they don't usually do that but any big exploration of Starborn stuff could make all the MQ's reveal moments really awkward.
>>580077957I 100% doubt they would gate it behind the MQ. At least completing the MQ. Maybe meetign the Starborn.

>>580096448Starfield is a long-term service game rather than a live-service game like Fortnite. The goal is to put it on the back-burner and slowly drip feed official content over time while modders act as the intermittent financial backbone that Bethesda takes a small cut from
>>580097898doesn't help that most paid mods are trash
>>580098108Doesn't really matter because there's a lot of people out there with a less discerning eye that buys all sorts of dumb, scammy shit anyway.
>>580098323Well, yeah, I've noticed, console plebs eat that shit on weekly basis, and the worst thing is that there are almost no place to complain or give feedback about it lol
>>580098510You can try some of the Starfield subreddits, some modders use those for feedback.
>>580098510There is a mod, and verified modder, section on Bethesda's actual discord to post reports.
>>580098510Lets be honest. If there was an official feedback/rating system on creations people would just be review bombing everything to 1/10
>>580112308yes, also you get nuked if you complain on bgs discord btw lmao, and I know with good sources that the paid mod authors talk shit about other mod authors or people known in modding communities
>>580115476I see people complain on the BGS discord all the time and not get nuked. you just have to not be a retard about it.
Things I could see in future DLC/patches-Assign crew to specific stations in ships/outposts for additional bonuses-Buildable space stations-More buildable mission boards in ships/outposts-Combat arenas(space and ground)-Optional fuel mechanic-Outpost improvements(recruitment, more focus/uses for resources collection, proper settlements, etc.)-Place doors/ladders in starships-Robot customization-Ship/Outpost blueprinting-Space walks-Usable objects in ship habs/outposts(landing ramps, water coolers, workout equipment, etc. that give buffs and such)Don't expect-Class M ships-Dynamic economy-Fleet command-Mechs-Underwater stuff-Xenowarfare
>>580117383Pretty much. Some people (mainly kids) have picked up some bad argumentative habits from their time using the internet, often throwing derogatory words around and making empty threats like it's the most natural thing in the world to do. Gotta remember not to be as rude as you are on 4chan or CS:GO so you won't end up getting banned off of other platforms
>>580081302>>580082864Post more please. Can you make make the body thiccer or it is fixed?
>>580123159>Class M shipsI can see Bethesda implementing Class M ships someday, but I expect them to play out differently compared to standard ships as I don't think they'd actually give you to option to manually fly them. I'm thinking it'll either operate independently of the player while you engage in combat with your standard ship, or there could be some kind of command gimmick where you sit in your captain's chair and give orders to your crew while in combat>Xenowarfare and MechsI can see them implementing these too, but in a limited fashion to avoid issues related to the Armistice, because naturally the player will be incurring a bounty from trying to use them. Either you won't be allowed to deploy them in UC and Freestar space, or their use will be limited to some new locations added to the game>Underwater stuffThis one is definitely unlikely. Bethesda has never really implemented interesting underwater content even in their past games. The only thing I can even see them do with the oceans in this game is allow the player build resource drilling rigs and operate fishing trawls
>>580123159>Dynamic economy>Fleet commandI could seem them doing just that, as part of a major expansion or the free update part of one, if they implemented interplanetary cruising, they can definitely implement other classic Space Sim Trademarks
>>580130028>Dynamic economyI don't see them doing dynamic economy since it basically never works out, even in games that focus entirely on it.>Fleet commandI just don't see this making sense in the context of the game's setting. Constellation isn't going to just become a large scale fleet going around and acting like an organized fleet like that.
>>580123159Mini games should be top of the listPool, darts, cards and space chess is scattered everywhere and yet we can't play anything
>>580132114This shit should be at the bottom of the list since it doesn't contribute any meaningful gameplay.
>>580132426There's no meaningful gameplay in starfield
>>580130028I don't think Bethesda has much interest in sim elements, cruise mode was mainly a response to everyone and their mom shitting on the vanilla travel.>>580131742Constellation already has a fleet, technically. Most of them own their own ships, and its not like there's some anti-fleet law stopping them from grouping up, or from handing out your personal collection to hired crew. Its purely a gameplay limitation.
>>580133815>I don't think Bethesda has much interest in sim elementsTodd has constantly talked about, since Oblivion, how their games aren't just RPGs, but world sims.
>>580132426That makes sense for a one and done linear game, but Starfield is an sandbox RPG. There should be more diversions to truly immerse you in it's world

HOWAAAAAAAAARD
HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY STARFUL. I hope Todd makes that goddamn starborn expansion since more focus on all the NG+ stuff would be cool
First rule of undercover work, don't hire a dimension hopping alien
>>580136006The game has that. ITs called the faction questlines and mechanics like outpost building.
think i've reached a good point this morning.
Um guys you can wake up now
>>5801655605 more minutes
Do Starborn sleep
>>580168457Their physiology is mostly ordinary, so they have the same basic needs as regular humans.
explain the empty ships then,I don't remember seeing a coffee machine when I met with the hunter & emissary
>>580170437my character is starborn and needs to sleep or will suffer a debuff. also needs to eat and drink water or will suffer debuffs
>>580170437The simple answer is that Bethesda didn't bother with it since you only get to enter The Scorpius once per playthrough, you are able to customize your own Starborn Guardian though. The more detailed answer is that they don't always stay on their ships, The Hunter in particular can even be seen hanging around the cities and can be interacted with prior to confronting you. Truth be told, you don't need to sleep in this game either even before you become a Starborn, but you still can anyway.
Get on up
Some of you who are modders might want to get your hands on this one in case it gets taken down. It's apparently a Claude AI made list of script references, functions, and documentation for the Creation Kit that seems to try and get around the NDA Bethesda has on ithttps://www.nexusmods.com/starfield/mods/18170
>>580171423It would be kinda silly if the Starborn had to bum around for food/bedding/toilets on a regular basis, or if everyone except the Hunter installs a bunch of aftermarket equipment in their transcendent space magic ships. I figure there's a power covering basic needs, so anyone that wants to live normally simply doesn't use it while others spam it 24/7.
>>580181434It's beyond scummy how Bethesda is trying to kneecap modders outside of their ecosystem by putting the documentation under lock and key
>>580181756I guess you can headcannon them sleeping on the cockpit chair and the Starborn suit having it's own built in waste collection. As for food, just put the prepackaged space age stuff in storage and cook something the next time you find a cooking station. We can probably also assume that some of the Starborn who probably haven't decked out their own Starborn Guardian have a place to call home somewhere just as Keeper Aquilus does. Their ships are just as capable of instant travel between Star Systems as regular ships equipped with a Grav Drive are, so it's not like they need to keep months to years worth of food lying around in their ships
Anyone still got that ini tweak or whatever it was to make the enemy AI faster to react? I remember someone mentioning it ages ago
>>580182472I always found it weird that the community never really freaked out over that, you see bitching about paid mods everywhere but actively impeding the free mod scene is way, way bigger problem than a handful of asshats overcharging for mods.
>>580184616Most outrage on the internet is performative, and people are really only complaining about certain, well published, issues.
>>580183005Starborn are like ghouls. They don't need to eat sleep or piss, but they can if they want.
>>580199916that's not true
>>580200220Coffin Willie and Kid in the Fridge disagree.
The Starborn seem to effectively be immortal considering Keeper Aquilus and his Hunter counterpart have been around since Earth was still inhabited, but there are some questions to ask with this. When either one of them goes through the Unity themselves, do they actually go all the way back to around the time when they first interacted with an artifact like the player does? Because it had to have been centuries ago since there's no way he could have lived long enough to wait for Constellation to dig them up, unless he's found some other means of immortality. And then you have to ask why doesn't The Hunter just collect the artifacts from well before the Player or The Emissary are even born? Does he just decide to fuck around for a few centuries before starting the hunt for the artifacts again, just for the game of competing with The Emissary and The Player?
>>580204749>Does he just decide to fuck around for a few centuries before starting the hunt for the artifacts again, just for the game of competing with The Emissary and The Player?IIRC he even talks about that during one of your big initial starborn meetings and I want to say the reasoning boiled down to "Yeah I felt like it. There's some other universe where I just killed everyone but it's not this one". The real-life reason is obviously just not wanting to put a ton of effort into NG+ stuff that a lot of people aren't ever going to interact with, but the in-game reason could be that the player is a starborn that only comes into existence during situations where the Hunter and Emissary are fairly cordial to each-other since they both were surprised as fuck when the player shows up. That would explain why the player only ever experiences relatively "Honorable" versions of the starborn since you're a later-starborn and your ass just gets killed/never finds an artifact in the vast majority of universes
>>290770439Kinda, 3 strays live under my porch and i feed them and give them clean water so they stay around and keep the mice away since i live in a pretty rural area.
>>580214662WTF does this have to do with anything?
>>580211010>sometimes I murder hobo the entire universe, sometimes I don't. Depends on what side of the starborn bed I woke up that reset.
>>580222148I mean, yeah. For Starborn their actions don't have actual consequences. You could genocide the settled systems and it won't mean anything to the next universe. I could imagine someone having a "you know what, fuck it" moment that leads to mass deaths when that concept stops having meaning to you.
>>580226881But then comes the question of whether murder even has any meaning anymore when you're unstoppable. You can spend days, hours, weeks, months, and even years killing without anyone being able to stop you, and then what? Stuff like this reminds me of that GTA V cartoon with Franklin getting bored of killing and blowing shit up all the time, then gets excited when he does the most mundane shit insteadhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zN9HM8MPYHY
>>580227938GTA is boring, even with the mundane stuff.
>>580226881Just killing everyone is so much easier when none of it matters to you.
Wake me up before you go go
>>580227938That kinda comes down to the general theme of the starborn in Starfield which is the Hunter is the murderhobo player there to fuck around and make numbers grow bigger and the Emissary is the roleplayer that wants to do all the quests and make everyone happy and fix everything. Murder doesn't have much meaning to them and even the Emissary doesn't seem to have the same degree of drive as if this was 'real', there's wider wiggle room in individual universes for their behavior but their overarching goals are to get to the end. Hunter 'wins the game' and gets to look in the mystery box and presumably get ultimate power, Emissary gets to look in the mystery box and fix everything, the player does whatever the player would since there's no actual ending TO reachAs much as I agree with the shitposters that the STARBORN name combined with collecting STAR-DRAGON SHOUTS is pretty silly, lore-wise and how they're presented as archetypal Bethesda game players I like I lot. Maybe the starborn expansion will add a new starborn for the player archetype of DER COOMER

>>580126629>some kind of command gimmick where you sit in your captain's chair and give orders to your crew while in combatI'd love that. Especially if it's based on both the crew's stats and the player's. They'd probably never do it since it's bypassing having space dogfights but gimme that Star Trek 25th Anniversary bridge view with automatic combat but yelling orders for bonuses
>>580126629I'd rather they save all this for starfield 2, the breath of life this game needs is too big
will this game ever get as big as fallout 4?
>>580269589maybe years from nowFO4 (both regular and VR) only recently got its 'second wind' and has been finally getting its share of worthwhile gameplay-extending mods as well as one major total conversion and a smattering of content mods the past couple of years
>>580276232what's the major total conversion?
>>580276573Fallout LondonI say 'total conversion' because it's a standalone thing, not connected at all to the main game
>>580276854oh I heard it wasn't very good
>>580280685It's hit or miss. Definitely needed more time in the oven.
>>580280685It's mediocre because its writing is awful. The tone is all over the place.
>>580282721They were too ambitious. They should've just downscaled. More control over the finished product that way.
>>580276232>FO4 (both regular and VR) only recently got its 'second wind' and has been finally getting its share of worthwhile gameplay-extending modstbf that was caused more by the TV shows than London
>>580289217I never said it was because of London, you are right though, the TV show got people playing and modding the game again
>>580283082Issue with most mods of this type. Over scaling.

>>580300249Compared to the other same overused tropes used in scifi?
>>580301874That really has little to do with quality control. Now if the mod was bugged as shit yeah, that would be a quality control issue.
>>580303486Original isn't better than generic by default.
>>580303834Who said anything Starfield did was orignal?-Space explorers: Constellation-Space military: UC Vanguard-Space cowboys: Freestar Rangers-Space corpos: Ryujin-Space cops/pirates: Sysdef/Crimson Fleet-Space mercs: Ecliptic-Space bounty hunters: Tracker's Alliance-Space cultists: House Va'ruun-Space wizards: StarbornAre not original ideas either.
>>580304196Jack of all trades, master of none. Starfield effectively shines in it featuring an amalgamation of various space tropes from a hard sci-fi standpoint, to a fantasy sci-fi standpoint, though it doesn't really do any of them perfectly. And all of these gives the game more CYOA roleplaying potential compared to most space games, especially when you throw modding into the mix.
>>580299229For me the big problem is sort of an uncanny valley effect. The questlines, art style, and themes of the setting want you to make connections between it and our world, but at the same time they've systematically stripped out all the cultural elements that would make that work. National and religious identities are completely replaced, ethnic identities are reduced to the occasional accent and corpo aesthetic, all the pets are extinct, 90% of the music is just droning repetitions of the main theme, and so on.These all happen in other settings to some extent, but something about the way Starfield does it comes together in a way that makes the settled systems weirdly unsettling. I felt completely detached way before the Unity.
>>580305662>National and religious identities are completely replaced, ethnic identities are reduced to the occasional accent and corpo aestheticSo basically Star Trek where all of Earth is untied as one nation, and the concept of national, and ethic identities and such are basically gone? Ditto with religion since Gene said there was no more religion on Earth, and any mention of things like priests and such are just holdovers, and no human actually believes in god.
>>580304712That's Bethesda games in a nutshell. Most other RPGs force you down a specific narrative/playstyle, while Bethesda games are like "just be anything you want!"
>>580301874par for the course

>>580348631why
>>580348631I don't know if they'd be willing to officially implement a dart throwing minigame, but I can see them at least letting you play video versions of those other gambling games on the Red Mile machines that you can't interact with right now. Until then, there are three gambling mini game mods available (one I just found out about while making this post), Red Mile Blackjack Table available on both PC and Consoles, Functional Casino Games I just found out about, but it's a paid mod, and Starcade OS which is PC only.

>>580353975Hopefully not as much of an idiot.
>>580338890I should probably update since I think I'm still running some jank half-broken version uploaded by someone else months ago. It's mostly functional except I don't get the full description on the abilities on items so I still don't know what the hell a lot of my stuff does since I'm always too lazy to look it up. I technically should do that now since I'm still running on the patch when the free lanes and TA launched, which means some of my incursions are still fucked and I have to noclip to complete them

>>580348631Missed opportunity to not have added darts or board games, like Checkers and Nine Men's Morris, with the Free Lanes update.Switch on auto-pilot cruise mode, and just play with your crew while time goes by.As it is now, I think I just have conversations with companions during auto-pilot.
>>580370380>As it is now, I think I just have conversations with companions during auto-pilot.I do that sometimes too, but it does fuck with me since IIRC the travel time is paused while in dialog, and slowed slightly just getting up from the cockpit. >>580473893Now I'm going to sleep
>>580474106No. Adding thousands more devs would be unmanageable and unrealistic, and it sounds like they already struggled to manage what they had. They should've either scaled back or focused on building out systems (IE actual procgen dungeons) and gameplay loops more suited to that size. Or made it a proper live service game and fill it out over years.
>>580478210Bethesda has experience building focused RPGs on a fixed scale and Starfield requires too much experience they didnt have. It's clear that they didnt have a proper allocation of resources and they didnt build complete systems as a framework for Starfield's long term gameplay like building dungeons procedurally so people can play infinite dungeons and explore things infinitely. The article also talked about how they had to figure out how to build vehicle gameplay when they had no experience to do how. They needed experts for every new system they thought about adding in, which they couldnt do since that involves getting other developers and senior devs involved. If they ever make a Starfield 2 they can use this as a base to build upon it but for now it's a game that's way too big and ambitious for their capability or something they should copy live service games to build over time.

BGS should have focused on other aspects of the game or waited until the tech was right.

So we've talked about dlc speculation, but what features do you think should get the free lanes treatment?
>>580516518See>>580123159Looking at what Bethesda has done in past games, that's the sort of stuff I'd expect to see in a DLC or Free Lanes like update. That stuff on top of of the generic-More POIs-More weapons-More armor-More ship parts-More pets-Probably two more ground vehicles for the remaining major starship parts factories(Hope and Tiayo) that don't have one.I could also see them use the Free Lanes space travel tech to do seamless grav jumps, and MAYBE takeoffs/landings(since mods exist of this usign that tech). Grav jump more likely since I'veh eard the landing/takeoff is very resource heavy.
>>580517152Ohh, and I could also see them take a stab at revamping the temples. Maybe not making them unique large dungeons. but something more than just "fly through spinning stars"

>>580522338It's even more so with the aesthetics, that's sort of the point with that genre. Starfield is designed to be a more optimistic space age while Cyberpunk 2077 is a corporate hellscape of hedonism and death
>>580523106I'd rather live in Cyberpunkland than the HR PC dystopia of Starfield.
>>580523431You think you do, but you don't. That'd be like living in the worst parts of Mexico
>>580516518I think a functionality pass on habs would be nice.
>>580523106>optimistic space ageEverywhere I go there is violence or stories of suicide, depression, murder... Also at the end you leave behind everyone and everything you "cared" for. What did Todd mean by this?
>>580525485This would def come in an Outpost DLC if they did one.
Bethesda is doing a Starfield 3 year anniversary giveaway bundle if anyone's interestedhttps://x.com/StarfieldGame/status/2098103388923740611
>>580539569I am not.
>>580523106Not my point at all, if CP2077 aimed to make me feel like I was in a hedonistic hell hole then it failed miserably, Night city is soulless for an open world rpg
>>580546521Night city has all the same issues GTA does. Having a big open world means nothing if you can't interact with it. Having a city with 5000 buildings means nothing if 99.99% of them are just cardboard cutouts you can't enter.
>>580549559Saints Row 2 and True Crime NYC are probably the best open world games in terms of having a ton of enterable interiors
>>580524589At least you can have fun in Mexico. The PC/HR dystopia Starfield is set in would be its own hell.
>>580552776Saints Row 2 is the best "GTA game." Shits all over every GTA game.
Cute looking dress with physics, I wonder who in my harem ship this would look best onhttps://www.nexusmods.com/starfield/mods/18203

Can Todd explain how the UC MAST Wonkavator works?

Tip for other sloppists, if you're doing the DLSS5 crap make sure you're on driver 616.56 and not even the newest one that came out yesterday. Was watching GPU-Z with both and 616.56 pulls significantly less power and runs cooler. Doesn't necessarily mean your video card will explode but since I already undervolt to keep it easy on my hardware what the hell. YMMV of course, I'm on a 4070 so maybe 5000 series cards don't get fucked with the latest driver, no idea
>>580565265Sarah's like a cat, petting is necessary
>>580096591It gives me a tactical boner.
>>580561320How did this woman not have a sex drive for 50 years, I think she mentioned maybe developing a crush on her mentor at some point but that's about it
>>580583425she was dating that nigger that shows up at some point
Whom
>>580549559maybe it's just preference but I felt no urge to explore or do anything outside the main story in CP2077, I only wrapped up the side quests before meeting hanakoI have thousands of hours in gta story mode though
>>580583425She dated someone while in the military
>>580265820>some kind of command gimmick where you sit in your captain's chair and give orders to your crew while in combat>I'd love that. Especially if it's based on both the crew's stats and the player's. They'd probably never do it since it's bypassing having space dogfights but gimme that Star Trek 25th Anniversary bridge view with automatic combat but yelling orders for bonusesYou know that was already done in 2002 right?
>>580583425She said that she tried dating multiple people including both men and women, but they were all short-lived due to her focusing more on her career, and we really don't know how many of them she actually slept with. Aja (pic related) is the only one she came close to falling in love with before they went their separate ways. Also Sarah's estimated age is closer to 40.
