I will still never understand why azalea planks weren't added

My theory is that they wanted to test the water for adding new leaves or tree types without having to add new wood sets, which is honestly a good idea. For instance, they could have turned some of the birch forests into dappled forests, with new leaves on birch logs. But for some reason they seem to have completely dropped this idea, leaving azalea trees in this awkward position of being the only tree type without its own wood set

This was all the (worthwhile) loot. Two Looting II books is very nice, same as Swift Sneak III, Efficiency IV and Prot 4 + Unbreaking III + Mending diamond legs). I don't particularly care about notch apples or armor trims so I was hoping for atleast a pickaxe (which I now find out that you cannot drop them in Ancient Cities, same as any other piece of armor that isn't leggings). For the time it took for me to explore it all (more than 1 hour) I'm honestly kinda disappointed.
>>
>>580121183
>>580125318
Ancient cities have the best hoes in the game, and the best pants in the game. And, of course, they're the only place you can get swift sneak, which is an absolutely necessary enchantment imo.
Beyond that, the only reason to raid them is for collecting notch apples and the 2 armor trims. The silence one being a 1% chance from any ancient city chest so you'll need to go to a few, doesn't look like you got it. Looks like you're too lazy for a bee farm so all those candles should make you happier I'd think, and swift sneak is huge itself. For just an hour it's not bad at all.

fuck all's changed in minecraft for like 2 years now so that's understandable. it's just been adding autocrafters to farm collection and that's it
he's not into revamping old builds to make use of new blocks. building for the sake of building he's against too wanting builds to have a use/function rather than aesthetics only. since there's nothing new being added there's no point in building something using new blocks

I mean yeah it has to coordinate visual and spacial awareness and inputs with its reasoning and it doesn't have pre-baked training to do this. That's pretty impressive and an indicator of...general intelligence. If you handed a controller to a monkey and told it to mine you a diamond and it did you would scream at the top of your lungs. If you handed the controller to a kid who hadn't played minecraft and they managed it that would be impressive. Nothing about that post is overhype it's just cool that it's able to do that. Why does that make you so upset?
>>
>>580184303
it doesn't make me upset, just trying to be realistic about the hype
>doesn't have pre-baked training to do this
yes it does and in ginormous quantities. you are ignoring the fact of just how much data and the types of data they train these models on. the *entirety* of the public internet was scraped. every video, every codebase (public or not), every article, every book, literally everything. minecraft is literally the most popular game of all time, the strategy to execute is so clear and obvious and had been repeated ad infinitum by everyone ever. you can't say that it doesn't have weights to play minecraft because it clearly does
the fact that it can (supposedly, i can't even find this tweet) play mc does not mean that it is true AGI. you're just falling for altman's marketing and retarded hype
>>
>>580185757
The reasoning model likely knows *about* minecraft, but even if it doesn't it has access to tools to research more, that's what makes it general intelligence. That's much different than a model specifically being trained to play a specific game, which is where AI in minecraft has sat up until now. If it has access to the same interfacing with the computer that we do and it can 'reason' coherently enough, it can do anything on a computer that we can. I don't have some stake in GPT, I don't really like the big AI companies, not for luddite reasons though. It's interesting to see new developments.
>>
AGI is an arbitrary label. Debating and seething about whether something is AGI or not is pointless. What you should be discussing is how this technology is going to be used to enslave all of humanity by the technocratic elites. Whether it's called AGI or something else is irrelevant.

Minecraft doko.
>>
>>580181603
Sure, but I don't care until I see something meaningful
>>
>>580187584
That's why communities around experimenting with these things and getting agents to play minecraft or do silly little tasks just out of passion for the development is important. If a model is too large to be run locally and needs big datacenters, we want the business model of those paying for the datacenters to be providing a tool for anyone who pays them. I think the kneejerk reaction to shun these tools and make that business model unviable is what exactly would push big AI into the arms of exclusively technocrats meaning the best most advanced tools could be locked away from the average person. We need nerds to be toying with these things and making them play minecraft.
>>
>>580187157
>The reasoning model likely knows *about* minecraft
nigga do you not understand how these things are even made? do you think they managed to create some clever algorithm that through a process of natural selection and evolution gave birth to emergent intelligent behavior? no, they dump petabytes worth of text, images, and videos onto the models during the training process and via brute force the models learn to regurgitate text and observe patterns from visuals. it's not smart in the way a small child is. large language models are excellent at recalling information from vast datasets, really good at compressing and spotting patterns in them, but they are not "intelligent" in the same way that humans are intelligent.
like anon said this is a pointless debate about what's AGI or not, but to imply that this model doesn't have tens of thousands of minecraft clones and millions of playthroughs/annotated screenshots of the game embedded inside of it is just laughable
>>
>>580189358
that sound a lot how my brain works
I guess I'm not smart I just memorize a lot
>>
>>580179326
How long 'till it kills the Ender Dragon? They're sight is getting better, assuming the bot wasn't cheating and only had visuals.
>>
>>580189358
I'm not an expert but I'm pretty sure you are confusing the way diffusion and LLMs provide a response with how agents work. The LLM works like that, predicting the next likely word based on weights and whatnot, but then reasoning models have different weights that build out logical chains and then check those to see if they are logically coherent, so it's not *just* blurting out the next probable output, that's only a piece of how it works. Then it's dynamically calling tools, looking at the results of using them, dynamically prompting itself again based on whether that line of logic worked toward the goal, using tools again, in a loop. It's an oversimplification to compare that to more basic AIs trained to play games on a bunch of reinforcement data. The agent is not just shitting out training data.
>>
>>580191741
>it's not *just* blurting out the next probable output
LLM inference is literally blurting out the next probable output (or the 2nd, 3rd, based on randomness to give the model more spice). you really have to understand that these things have been trained on every single piece of text on the public internet, and every single relevant book ever written. there is A LOT of "reasoning" text there that these models mimic. i am not saying that they cannot accomplish tasks, but at the core it literally is a next-token prediction engine. they can infer based on (again) MASSIVE AMOUNTS training data and spot patterns in them, but it's not innate to them like it is to people.
it is *literally* spouting tokens in order of probability. tool calling is not some abstract mind calling some method at the appropriate moment, it's literally just the next output tokens being something like "/call_tool()". it just so happens that "reasoning" patterns are mostly learnable by LLM's, but that's the whole mechanism behind how that works, a next-token-prediction-engine.
the "reasoning" it displays is only based on weights and input, not some magical AGI juice. gpt-6 is pretty much the exact same thing as gpt-1 except on far larger scale with way more training data and params, they haven't invented anything unbelievably groundbreaking in terms of research, they are literally just throwing more data and compute at the problem and have been since the beginning. the core architecture has always stayed pretty much the same.
"AI" models still make mistakes, they still lie, and they still misunderstand input given to them. it's not AGI or whatever new term the marketing team wants to destroy in a given year, it's an LLM with a LOT of compute behind it. they have no conception of reality outside of tokens, their entire universe is just tokens, it's an algorithm and it's not conscious and it's not sapient or sentient.
anyway whatever, nobody cares, i'm done spamming this thread

That's just not right. Gpt6 works differently than 1 and I explained my understanding of how so in my last reply. The LLM inference is a part of how it works but when it's reasoning it is doing a dynamic function that leads it to check its logical coherence beyond weights from the internet and texts. There are reasoning weights are different from language weights. It is trained such that its output must logically follow from the input, basically. They operate differently from LLMs that simply replicate a reddit post or prose from training data, because they're combining focused math/logic/programming weights with general language weights. If it has to check its own logic in a loop along with new inputs based on its actions, that is reasoning, and that's the part you're missing. It is not just making one output based on logic training data, it is engaging in a dynamic check>refine process of its logic on top of that, which is literally what reasoning is. You want to fit all AI into the strawman box which applies to older models, when there have been significant developments that change how they work.
>>
>>580197649
That was only half a paragraph
>>
>>580179326
why should I care
>>
>>580199123
you are correct in that "reasoning" models are different from normal models but only insofar as that they employ an additional reinforcement learning process *on top* of normal LLM training. there is no separate weights component to the AI compared to normal weights, it's still the same model except that it had additional RL done to it so that it doesn't throw its hands up and immediately give up when a problem arises, idk maybe you meant to say that. i downplayed this advancement but sure, they are different from what a normal, pre-o1 LLM instructed model is.
the debate is whether this goal-based RL training part and its "emergent" behavior is proof of general intelligence, and i will still say no. as i said above it simply makes models not give up on tasks as quickly as a typical LLM model would, and to also know when to eventually stop as the goal is achieved. you still need the mountain of training data for the thing to do anything at all. it's not like it's implicitly gaining IQ or discovering truths of the universe through simple algorithmic evolution, it's literally made to just not stop spouting out output until a given goal is achieved. or if you ask it an open question - have a little "ponder" (as in, just output some text), and then summarize it for the user to see.
yes, it is reading its own input back and as such can show "reasoning", that is literally how inference works on any LLM because you need to feed in the entire user input + model output to generate the next token, but again, it's nothing but a standard LLM model that's been RL tuned to not give up as quickly and continue going if it makes a mistake. it's not some magic AGI juice that marketing implies, just maybe a bit of a more useful tool
>>
>>580201734
you shouldn't, ai jeets will just keep trying to force shit down your throat until it eventually dies. it won't ever fully truly die sadly but you know what i mean.
>>
>>580201804
You're putting the "general intelligence" phrase on a pedestal. It completes different tasks without needing *specialized* training data for each because it's using logic to decide how to engage with its "environment" dynamically. That's general intelligence by my standard. It can be dogshit at it, hallucinate, fail tasks, but then it would just be a stupid general intelligence. You keep saying I'm falling "marketing," but I've not watched a single advertisement from openAI. Maybe seen some overhyping tweets, but I'm just going based off of what I see it do and my understanding of how it works. It seems like you're more eager to be reductive about it than I am about hyping it.
>>
>>580202775
circling all the way back to arguing about the definition of what "general intelligence" is, i say we've reached bedrock here (get it because minecraft haha...)
>>
>>580203471
I mean I literally didn't care what it was called, I was arguing with your portrayal of how it worked. You conceded that you were being reductive and then argued that you still didn't think it was appropriate to call it general intelligence and I argued otherwise because your line seemed arbitrary. I didn't "circle back" to anything because I didn't argue about the word at all prior. If you have nothing else to say on the matter that's fine. I don't want to catch an off topic ban anyway even though its a tangentially on topic conversation naturally sprouted out of MINECRAFT discussion.

If I had to guess, I'm going with modular entities for mod makers. So you can load in a creeper, give it arms, drag over enderman functionality, and now you've got a creeper that picks up blocks. Add some custom code and the size and type of explosion will depend on the block it's holding. That sort of modular drag-and-drop system that'll lead to a thousand identical mods being released on the marketplace

Ok maybe that's me being an oldfag but I really prefer the old digging gameplay. Go down, strip mine, make mineshafts and/or eventually use that space to build something underground. Now with all the shit that's down there it looks like it'd be an absolute pain to clean anything before building, unless you "build organic" but fuck that.
I dodged Hytale because of the whole exploration thing but at this point vanilla Minecraft is trying too hard to become something else.

so much of the "new" shit they added clashes with the literal cube design of the game to the point it isnt a fucking cube anymore.
i hate the falling leaves animations, there's so much shit everywhere like sugar canes, pumpkins, melons, bee's, fuckin armadillo's that just stands out to me as being to much.

A failure that Mojang and a lot of biome mods seem to make is having "epic" terrain isn't very playable. Huge tracks of sloping terrain is really awkward to navigate and build on. You really want a bunch of terraced steps. The current gen is awkward in that respect. Something that Notch got right (probably accidentally) was caves were like a tube with a flat bottom, it gave playable area and was still a cave. Those cut through the terrain caves are awful and the mounts are equally bad.

Respect on them for deepening the world though, i never thought they'd do that.

Cringe.

Jk don't mind me, if it's your way of enjoying the game then you do you. But having to brave the darkness and the mods it could hide seems like such a major aspect of gameplay that I can't bring myself to avoid it.
One of the things Minecraft owed its pre-beta fame was creepers spawning outta nowhere and blowing you up so you had to run back into the caves to pick up the ressources you were collecting. And since Mojang doubled down on this by making the darkness thicker at deepslate levels, and adding these weird alcoves aboe tunnels that are perfect for mob spawning, not having to deal with the danger of not knowing what lies a few blocks ahead would feel like missing out on an important aspect of the gameplay.
Without it I wouldn't regularly build small outpost mini-bases containing a bed, chests and furnaces when caving to avoid losing all the resources I mine in case I died and the game would feel like meh.

But then again I love the exploration aspect a lot more than building and I can see how someone who wants to focus on building big things doesn't like to waste their time on that without going creative.

>Go down, strip mine, make mineshafts and/or eventually use that space to build something underground.
It's the mandatory grind to get netherite

>>580306687
I think it's actually good because it makes distance way more challenging. So every time I set out to grab stuff from other biomes like wood or mobs will have to be a well thought out expedition with heals, protection, maps and mounts too. This week I was just done carving a 2k blocks long tunnel in the nether (1600k in overworld) to collect sand for concrete and TNT.
And the high stakes will make the late game stuff like elytra/shulkers more meaningful. If not for that tediousness, then what use are railways ? Horses ? Lamas ? Happy ghasts ? Spyglasses ? Distance makes the game more vibrant because it forces me to use much of the recent content, especially since the most common complaint I see about nuMC is that it's filled with useless soulless additions.

Porn rotted my brain
>>
>>580467651
hey doofus a starter house is meant to be simple and easier to make, not something elaborate like youtubers and 'builders' have turned it into

it doesn't have to be a dirt hovel but it should be stuff you have easy and ready access to, not nether bricks which explicitly take forever to grind for
>>
>>580456215
post something you've built and tell us why you think it's bad

wut? i would understand if it was the blue wood though
why would you make the entrance 1 solid block
>>
>>580470038
It was supposed to be a window
>>nether
You can enter the Nether in under 15 mins nowadays with how easy is to find underground lava lakes, probably less if you waste less time wandering around like i do. If all you want is Nether bricks and some quartz is perfectly reasonable thing to just go and build a torched cobblestone enclosure to protect the portals.

>>

You can do it. Try building and share pics, get feedback and keep doing it.
Builds aren't set in stone, you can always improve them over time.

>>580467651
Looks good but replace the oak logs with some fences, preferably not netherbrick walls use something that brings a little contrast (but not too much). Maybe polished tuff walls ?

Is there any world gen that gives ice world but still have all the blocks available somehow? I would like a large ice sheet but also the different default dnow biomes. Normal underground but maybe with more depths to build a lot downwards.

You can use pistons to push blocks over the beams, and attach them to a lever that you can flip on and off when you are at your base or not.
>>
>>580502035
The best I can think of is changing all regular biomes to a snowy variant. All forests to snowy taigas, all oceans to frozen oceans, turn rivers to their frozen variant, all none snowy mountain biomes to snowy slopes etc, while still keeping deep dark, drip stone and lush cave biomes, is that what you kinda want?

If I made a new world I would almost definitely play in large biomes. The new terrain is better but the biomes are so much worse. Only bad thing about large biomes is having to travel 10k blocks for a desert. But if they improve transportation in the future that might not be that bad.

Usually in r/ethoslab, people don’t upvote crossposting fanart. I think a lot of us Etho fans hate the other hermits beside Bdubs. There was a comment discussion of wanting a hermit guest appearing in the LP, and it was heavily implied they want britbong like mumbo and grian. Etho has 11 friends on steam. Most (4) of them are mindcrack, two of them are pixelmon, 1 of them is don’t starve, and 3 of them are hermitcraft. FUNNY how out of all the hermits, he chose zed and gem.

Lmao you’re right. Also I doubt Etho added him on steam ever. He’s so fucking boring and always looked like a creep. Etho has NEVER collaborated with him solo.

He provides nothing to the mindcrack community besides being there at the right time. If I can make analogy, Guude is so boring, that if you compare Guude to Xisumia (Hermitcraft’s leader), it would be like m Xisumia to Etho. That’s right, someone as boring as X is an Etho by comparison if you compare him to Guude.

I don't know, I wouldn't say that. Guude was legitimately entertaining.... but never by himself, with that you're spot-on. He excelled with groups. OOGE, or guude willies (with oldmanwillakers). I'm really dismayed by the pedo shit, I was more or less on that guy's side when all his projects imploded due to the insane artsy personalities and legalese involved.

Regardless of quantity they're simply not memorable. Most players wouldn't be able to explain what features are from what drop. Trial chambers were 2 years ago, not 1. Although it seems like 1 year ago as nothings changed since the game's been at a standstill
