I think that if you merged every single possible variation of the shop NPCs, that could accumulate as well, so I like to think that instead of them being inherently 'weaker' (since we don't actually have anything to work off of to establish their strenght, aside from their words and actions), you might end up with shop NPCs that deal in shit like menu and feature accessibility themed after their original specialties, or their fights being a jumble of the shop menu and the fight menu while the game struggles to fit the two together with what little it has, with Gerson straight fucking shit up "on purpose" kinda. I DO agree that they would probably be conventionally weaker overall, but not to the level of a froggit, and the mentioned elements would add challenge and uniqueness to their encounters.

Mentioned it before but basically DR is a really fun game the first time, when you are learning the encounters, it's nice to play them out and figure out the method to win. But when repeating it (eggs/weird route/whatever), you notice that most encounters only has one way of being done, every boss has mostly one way of being prepared for with very slight deviations, etc. Contrast with something like typical jRPGs and you'll find that there's a ton of varying preparation you can take, playthrough one can have you encounter a boss (x) way while the next one focuses on (y) or (z), especially by the mid/late game when the systems of the RPG are opened up. Imagine if in DR you could have Ralsei focus more on debuffs on Save 1, raw healer on Save 2, and then save 3 go into a hybrid role of debuff + raw damage (one day you can click his FireShock?), or if not directly character skill-trees, tie it to the darkners you recruited, or something to add variety to playing the game. Sure it's the same bosses but each of those choices would have influence through them, there's functionally three Tenna fights instead of just one that you're doing again and again while being prepared for the next chapter.>t. someone spending 300+ hours in a single game just to see how different builds work despite replaying the same story 3 times with many bosses having multiple rematches in each one

>>580238295late to the discussion, but I've genuinely thought that Deltarune's game play is probably the weakest part of it as a sacrifice to the story itself. Recently though, I've been thinking about how the recent chapters have been giving you less and less actual choices going forward. ACTs are no longer Kris's responsibility, both Susie and Ralsei can do it too. Susie is unable to be controlled at all and will make her own choices irregardless of ours. Kris won't let us choose certain dialogue choices at all. We're forced to fight the Titan, and cannot defeat Flowery with combat. I think the Idea is supposed to be that we cannot interact with this world in the ways that we would want. Like Ramb says, it isn't the original way to play. I also find it interesting that weird route seemingly 'ends' at chapter 5, skipping the dark world where you aren't allowed to defeat Flowery. I think it could be leading up to a way where we can somehow find a way to make ours choices "really matter". Whether this is by reuniting with our Vessel, or something else we need to do is up in the air. But I do think that this could also tie in to the game play being as linear as it is. That it's trying to make you feel as if you have no choiceOr this could be a massive cope or something
