Nice turn based combat, leveling, classes, equipment, party composition, character stories, lots of stuff. I did enjoy the ones I tried.I also liked Veil of the Witch, Valkyria Chronicles, and Wartales come to mind as games with similar situations.Speaking of Wartales, that game actually has a lot of side missions and roleplaying stuff, although it's more of a sandbox. Although this is where not being anal and quibbling about genre's can be useful, since if a game hits the important aspects of a crpg and is a good game people are interested in talking about, what's the difference? But the game is otherwise standing the test of time, as both critics and word of mouth still cite it as one of the leading western games despite the years now, and it's holding up in player count. I think the timeless elements of bg3 are stuff like Newbon's voice performance, the individual character writing like Orin and Astarion and Durge, and the music that Borislav Slavov won a bafta for, especially Raphael. It has timeless elements. A game doesn't have to be perfect, and bg3 isn't. But if you have enough elements that stand out to the audience, you'll be recognized, and bg3 does have some timeless elements to it. We'll see in a few more years but 3 years so far and going strong.
