Unless you REALLY fuck up, you don't have to worry about your revenue collapsing, whereas a failed hype session in other games could mean people aren't going to eat next quarter. Similarly, constant hype and power creep burns customers out - HAVING to whale every quarter pushes customers to quit when they inevitably can't keep up, and a story relying on constant hype is one that wears thin remarkably quickly. It's just not sustainable.Endfield could be making more money, in many different ways - but the foundation? That's at least healthy, and probably why HG seems pretty pleased thus far.
