Friend gifted me the classic mega man collection last week as I was expressing an interest in it after having fun with the mega buster mythic (and they're a massive mega man nut). I'm only a couple stages into the first game but I'm already having a lot of fun, it's difficult sure but the trial and error and slowly getting better clearing each screen with less damage taken is satisfying

I do partial extractions when i get nerves about hanging on to a sprite for too long. Usually if there's a large open area between me where i'm at and the next area with chest. Also, i recommend only use the extractors in the storm or on the edge of the storm. have a way to regain hp and a sonic ball (if super speed isn't activated)

It does take longer doing it this way, but I tend to get more sprites maxed out this way

If you arent storm running to master your sprites you're making it way harder on yourself
