Small leveling/gearing guide:

>IoD BAMs to 20(group up with others or ask for help in thread) or lumbertown for comfy questing(can stay on IoD until 29 for gold farming, 60g in 1h)
>dungeons to 60(make sure weapon is +3 always, press T to open upgrade window) or quests(tons of fashion coupons and mystel charms)
>get to 60 and stop, ET is absolutely brutal, the first boss is level 66 and will fuck your ass
>do red quests for Sky Cruiser > Val Oriyn until you have 60 gearset, or do LoT/ET with premade
>farm 63+ open world mobs around highwatch or keep doing red quests to earn vanguard credits + glyph tokens + full lv 62 pve set
>do ET or BAMs to 64
>farm 63+ open world mobs around highwatch for a small chance of dropping a 64 pve weapon, upgrade to +6
>to hit 65, do red quests, hunt BAMs(only one channel in highwatch tho) or KN for glyph tokens(make sure to switch fire/ice debuff every two minutes or you die, tell healer to cleanse futility debuff)
>at 65, go to highwatch to pick up your free skyshard pvp armor set, and equip ONLY the chest(adding gloves/boots will nerf your damage resist and pvp weapon is worse than +6 64 pve weapon)
>do Lakan's Prison(on 2nd boss, stay center to kill adds and kill fireballs) for Mournshard pve gear(after your first clear you can buy boxes from outside the dungeon entrance)
>to upgrade Mournshard, do SS/TS and crafting/gathering
>for level 65 pve accessories, do wonderholme

equip appropriate crystals in your weapon:
>dps: bitter(melee)/spiteful(ranged), savage focused pounding/carving
>tank: wrathful focused threatening pounding/carving
>healer: move speed or MP regen
hardy crystals for armor, have Mystel Charm active for combat or you will OOM

if you gather, guild bank can use materials and gold

To keep autogather pets fed, we need:
cobseed
veridia root
mushroom cap

a pet will hasten your gather speed to 4s and do it from your mount, very useful and only 250 coins, pet boxes can drop from SS/TS however

The faster the party is the better slayer damage will because ICB stacks incredibly well with Adrenaline, brooch, contagion. Slayer burst is extremely high if you press your combos fast. I don't use reaper spacebar, so I can't compare. Although, I do think I should(?) when using grim strike during burst so I don't have to watch out for resets as much.

The reposition ability is nice, I think not focusing on space bar allows for flexing. Your skill prio changes depending on resets of grim.
I'm newish to this game though, I'm not big nerd about all this stuff. But having control of what skills I use feels really good.

Even then, Lancers still contested them in 1v1, let alone party/gvg scenarios. Sorcs too unless you abused jumping to not get stunned in trap since they had the tools to not let you kite and fish for Sap stun, and were able to counter melee engagement fairly well cos of Jaunt, snare, silence, stagger+sleep combo.

this is just wrong, slayer was the undisputed king of 1v1, and pretty much any small scale pvp, which was just basically world gvg/outlawing at the time
backstab combo would literally take off 80% of your hp, it was unbelievably broken
you could outplay slayers on warrior due to how overloaded the kit is with good tools but you'd still be disadvantaged, lancer did not put out enough damage to contest it either
ranged classes were just lol in those situations, especially sorc
all of this was entirely offset by massive gvg battles with 100s of people where melee even with max pvp damage resists would die extremely quickly so it doesn't matter if you do your backstab combo if you're dead in seconds anyway
berserker even played by literal gods was complete dumpster trashfire

you always could outskill people to a degree, especially considering this was 15 years ago where you didn't have discord or websites in english for a korean mmo giving you every information possible so the playing field in general was much less level, but due to how effective and easy slayer was it absolutely on average shat on everyone early on

This is only when Sap existed and you could stun with Backstab. Slayer's Backstab, if you didn't stun, was the worst thing to happen to the slayer player. Why? Because you just get stunned yourself, staggered, or even KD'd. What happens if you Backstab Sorc? They jaunt away. What, are you gonna rush into their KD/Stun Trap to follow? They have Snare/Silence that are lock-on, so you're also forced to Evasive Rolle, after that, you just get staggered+slept. Come on, now. I know it's skill based, but you're sounding very unexperienced.

And back then painful trap didn't do shit, magma bomb didn't stagger. Back then it was the impact/balance stagger and knockdown system where it was all RNG, this meta heavily favored Slayers who had stuns to combo with and had very high KD rate on KDS.

Then you add in Glyph of Sap which lets you stun people through block even so you could sap DB someone into backstab into guaranteed ass fucking combo.
