It's a kind of mindset that you see among the players of action games and fighting games. Where they think that defensive options slow down the game, or make it less exciting. These kinds of people want to strip away blocks. Strip away shields. They don't understand how someone can find satisfaction behind the safety of a shield.Because of this lack of understanding, they tried to make blocking have similar timing to dodging. So the player has to get into guard position at around the same time one would dodge, in order to optimize stamina usage.Simply turtling behind your shield is a bad option a lot of the time, because even when in guard stance, you lose too much stamina per attack. If the boss performs one of Elden Ring's trademark combos, he'll guard break you fairly easily.So ultimately, the risk of guarding outweighs the reward. Punishing the player for playing defense as the defensive character. The way to fix him, is to reduce stamina loss even further while in guard position. And also allow the player to quickly swivel while in guard. So they can defend their flanks and back
