SA2 fixed this with the ranking system but later games botched it. Heroes had level ups and the Team Blast gauge and it tied into ranks. The categorisation of "Boost" games is effectively having to hold the Boost mechanic (which is what it's called in Frontiers) for the entire level because outside of the occasional slow platform interlude, you have no reason not to. This is accurate to the Cyberspace levels and the boss fights (Squid, for example), as well as general movement throughout the open world as otherwise you'd be travelling slow as fuck. This is further incentivised by collecting max rings to get infinite boost or can also be done by a simple figure 8 cyloop.Frontiers is Boost.
