Much of the Fallen houses and their history and inner workings are fully killed off by Forsaken and its the year of Forsaken that really solidifies the switch from Fallen houses based on the society and traditions of the pre-Whirlwind to just being simplified into "these are the good ones, these are the bad ones". That whole thing started arguably with Spider and the House Dusk/Scorn in Forsaken. Kings/Dusk basically don't exist afterwards.

It was what they spent half of the Taken King's non-Hive lore talking about and even in parts of Forsaken's lore you can see them writing Uldren to be a unifier for the Fallen in a way that Mara, Mithrax or Skolas wasn't able to be, with help/blessing from the Kings.My guess is that someone came up with Riven as a central character, as well as the Scorn and it caused rewrites. That or they had to write Mara to be even more of a Mary Sue than she already was at the time because she's a stronk woman or whatever. It's weird because they still could've had everything post-Forsaken. The Awoken don't matter, the Fallen houses wouldn't matter, and Mara would still be seen as "important" as a guide.

It's no exaggeration to say that a lot is riding on this game, and if the GTA audience suddenly decides they want something simpler and more cartoony like GTA5 then the online mode is in trouble.
