You couldn't use LFG, teleport to dungeons or any other modern conveniences that make the game have less friction for casual players. And the playerbase sucked ass at the game making it much harder than it had to be at the time. So it's clearly not just a matter of making the game more friendly for casuals, it's more about the fact that information is much easier to get now and games will be optimized much faster. In original WoW your tank would probably be wearing some shitfest with Spirit all over it and nobody really cared, you can't get away with that now so even if the game is easier it's still going to be more of a pain to play simply because you don't have that blissful ignorance that let you do whatever you wanted.

I'd rather wait and experience everything fresh than spoil it and already know what's happening and what to do on launch day. Beta really seems like it's for streamers to do free advertisement and super addicts with no self control who would rather die than patiently wait for launch, especially since this new wow comes with a sub so you don't really have to risk paying an extra box price to discover you don't like it.
